Do you want to clean up our environment, design the next generation of skyscrapers or transportation systems, or help assure that people throughout the world have access to safe drinking water? Then civil & environmental engineering may be for you. Are you interested in designing machines, structures, and energy conversion devices, or developing new materials used on the nanoscale and in the marketplace and everywhere in between? Then mechanical engineering may be for you. Are you intrigued by devoting your career to integrating biology and engineering to help detect and treat human disease? Biomedical engineering may be the answer. Would you like to design computer-based systems, understand how signals are processed and communicated, or use optical and optoelectronic technologies to transmit and store data? Then you might pursue electrical and computer engineering.

Q: What if I cannot access the website? A. Simply call the Admissions Office at We can provide you with information about the program over the phone or by fax. Q: What if I am not sure if I want to apply to the Pratt School of Engineering? A. Pratt In Focus will allow you to learn about academic options within engineering, as well as opportunities our engineering students have to pursue interests within the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. If you think engineering may be right for you, we encourage you to attend in order to learn more. Q: What if I am not interested in engineering, but I still want to visit Duke? A. If you are not interested in engineering, Pratt In Focus will probably not provide information that is relevant to you. We encourage you to visit our campus by attending an information session and campus tour. Go to admissions.duke.edu for information about visiting at another time. Q: What if I am unable to attend Pratt In Focus? A. If you are unable to attend Pratt In Focus, you are welcome to visit the campus anytime. 5 Accommodations Two local hotels offer special rates for guests of Pratt In Focus. The Millennium Hotel is offering a special rate of $89 per night. Please call the reservations department at and ask for the Pratt In Focus rate. The four-diamond rated Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club also offers substantial discounts for families visiting campus. If you exit the parking garage during the day, be sure to ask the cashier for Hudson a parking pass, which will allow you to come and go all day. Bus service between East and West Campus is available at the West Campus bus stop near the Duke Chapel and at the southern end of the East Campus lawn. 6 Driving Directions From Interstate 85 traveling south, take Exit 174A on the right to go toward South. Take the NC 751/Duke University West Campus exit, Exit 107. Turn left at the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp onto NC 751/Cameron Blvd and drive approximately 0.7 mile to the third traffic light (Science Drive). Turn left onto Science Drive and go approximately 0.5 mile (through one light). The parking garage adjacent to the Bryan Center will be on your right. From Interstate 85 traveling north (from Charlotte), take Exit 172 to NC 147 South, then take Exit 16B to South, Chapel Hill. Take the NC 751/Duke University West Campus exit, Exit 107. Turn left at the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp on NC 751/Cameron Blvd and drive approximately 0.7 mile to the third traffic light (Science Drive). Turn left onto Science Drive and go approximately 0.5 mile (through one light). The parking garage adjacent to the Bryan Center will be on your right. From Interstate 40 traveling west (from Raleigh and the airport), bear right onto the Durham Freeway North (NC 147). Follow the Durham Freeway and take Exit 13 (Chapel Hill Street). At the end of the exit ramp, turn right (coming back over the highway), and go approximately 1.5 miles. Chapel Hill Street becomes Duke University Road. Turn right onto Towerview Road, then turn right at the next light (Science Drive). Go approximately 0.2 mile and the parking garage adjacent to the Bryan Center will be on your right.
