Get up and eat, else the journey will be too long for you! (1 Kings 19:7) Jesus knew that the stewardship journey would be difficult, so He gave us the nourishment of the Eucharist. When we take time to join our sacrifices with the sacrifice of the Mass, we find the strength to give and joy in our giving. Feast of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Our Parish will be celebrating the Feast of St. Bernard on his Feast Day: Thursday, August 20 th, with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at 5:30pm, followed by a reception in Fr. Fleming Hall. Mike Bacchetti will be cooking up a tasty dinner with all the fixin s...topped off with some nice, cold ice cream. Come and celebrate with your Parish Family! Eucharistic Adoration (Adoration Chapel located in Convent behind Church) Know also that you will probably gain more by praying fifteen minutes before the Blessed Sacrament than by all the other spiritual exercise of the day. True, Our Lord hears our prayers anywhere, for He has made the promise, Ask, and you shall receive, but He has revealed to His servants that those who visit Him in the Blessed Sacrament will obtain a more abundant measure of grace. ~St. Alphonsus Liguori Adorers are welcome at any hour, but especially needed: Mon. at 11am, Wed. at 1pm, Thurs. at 8am & 3pm, Fri. at 5pm, 6pm, & 7pm, & Sat. at 1pm. To become an adorer or for inquiries, call: Anita Laspina , Cecilia or Claudia

But the penitential rite is really less about our sins than it is about God s mercy. It is not a time for individual confession, like a minisacrament of reconciliation. It is, rather, a preparatory rite, preparing us to praise the mercy of Christ as we acknowledge our own weakness. When Simon Peter witnesses the miraculous catch of fish when he realizes who is in the boat with him he falls at Jesus feet with the words, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man (Luke 5:8). We are like Peter. The more aware of the Lord s presence we become, the more awareness we also have of our sinfulness, our weakness. The penitential rite of the Mass takes several forms, from the traditional Confiteor or I confess to a litany, spoken or sung by the deacon or cantor with responses by the entire assembly. The penitential rite always includes the words Kyrie, eleison; Christe, eleison Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy. This ancient Greek prayer came to the Roman liturgy from the East, and still echoes in many of the litanies of the Eastern Rite Churches. These words turn our gaze from our own weakness to the gentleness, the kindness, the forgiving love of Christ. ~Corinna Laughlin, Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.
