3 CODE OF ETHICS 1. Professional attire is required at the GACE Statewide Career Fair (no jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sneakers or flip flops, etc.) 2. Student ID or a copy of your resume with a participating GACE member school is your ticket into the event. Upon registration, all participants will receive a name tag, which must be worn at all times. If a name badge is lost or damaged, you must return to the registration table to secure a replacement. 3. Only those seeking employment or career-related information will be allowed into the event. Other visitors must remain outside the event. 4. Faculty and staff members of participating institutions who wish to enter the event must register to receive their event name badges. 5. Please respect the time of all career fair participants (employer s, job seekers & staff). 6. For safety reasons, the doorways to the events (inside and out) and the surrounding areas must be kept clear at all times. 7. Participants are expected to cooperate with all reasonable requests of any person acting in an official capacity as a representative of the participating institutions. CAREER FAIR SUCCESS TIPS Have a plan before you begin networking. First, review the room layout and review this program. Keep an open mind and speak to as many companies as you can. Practicing with a company you had not previously considered can also help you prepare for the top companies you have on your list. Approach each recruiter with a smile an a firm handshake. When you introduce yourself, make them remember you by telling them what specifically interests you about their organization. Instead of asking, What do you have for my major?, be prepared to say how your major can benefit the company and how your major has prepared you for specific positions. Ask open ended questions that generate good conversation about the company and open jobs. If you didn t research a company ahead of time, you can still be productive. The organization s display and the information in this program can help you plan your strategy for speaking to each recruiter. If a company asks you to apply online, do not take this as rejection. Many companies are required to handle all applicants through online applications so that everyone is treated fairly. To make yourself stand out in the crowd of career fair participants and online job applicants, follow up with all the companies you talk with today through a thank you . You should also complete their online application process even if you handed a recruiter a copy of your resume. 3
