2 Combining my naval career with my studies would have been much tougher for me but for my determination, perseverance, self-discipline, time management, consistency in studies coupled with dedicated group work with my study mates. I am very grateful to the University of London for giving me the opportunity to realise my dream of becoming a lawyer. Naval Captain Moses Beick-Baffour, Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Ghana The University of London International Programmes gave Naval Captain Moses Beick-Baffour the opportunity to study law whilst pursuing a naval career. After completing the LLB, Naval Captain Beick- Baffour continued at the Ghana School of Law. He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2011, where he was awarded the Best student prize in Family Law and Practice. He is currently Military Secretary for the Ghana Armed Forces. 2

Qualifying as a lawyer The University of London LLB is an English law degree. However, it is recognised for entry into the legal profession in many African countries (as well as other jurisdictions) in full or in part, provided you study the necessary courses and meet any other local requirements. I would recommend the University of London International Programmes to anyone. I am proud to say that at the 2012 enrolment of new Lawyers to the Ghana Bar Association, I received the Mensah-Sarbah Award for the Overall Best Law Student. Among other factors, my pursuit of the University of London International LLB course and the exposure, knowledge and skills acquired made a prominent contribution to my receipt of this award. The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) LSE provides academic direction for undergraduate programmes in economics, management, finance and the social sciences (EMFSS). Goldsmiths, University of London Goldsmiths, responsible for our undergraduate programmes in Creative Computing and Computing and Information Systems, is one of the UK s leading centres for the study of computer science. Royal Holloway, University of London Royal Holloway has an international reputation for the highest quality teaching and research across the sciences, arts and humanities. London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) LSHTM is a leading institution worldwide for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Study independently or get local tuition You can choose to study independently by distance learning, or take classes at one of our network of teaching institutions across Africa. These institutions offer lectures which help you to structure you studies and give you an opportunity to meet other students. More information about teaching institutions is on page 10. The program has broadened my knowledge as a Geoscientist; the field trips at Wessex basin (UK), class work and exercises have immensely helped my exploration and production duties. I am now better at my work and this is clear from the feedback I get from my manager, supervisor and even colleagues. 9 Law Scholarships The University of London International Programmes, in conjunction with Canon Collins Trust, is offering two scholarships to people in South Africa to study for a Master of Laws (LLM) by distance learning from The scholarships cover all registration and examination fees charged by the University of London. That the LLM is presented by flexible learning makes it possible for me as a working adult to continue developing my practical skills whilst refining my academic knowledge by studying in my own time. 12 Entrance requirements Applying for postgraduate programmes You generally need to hold a degree which is considered at least comparable to a UK second class honours degree. Further information including specific entry requirements and application deadlines can be found online at: Applying for undergraduate programmes The application deadline for undergraduate programmes is 1 October each year. You should apply online through the webpage of your chosen programme: If you intend to study with support from a local institution, you can also contact them for advice. Undergraduate entrance requirements To meet our general entrance requirements for undergraduate degrees, you will need to hold UK GCE A levels, or equivalent qualifications, at an appropriate grade. If your school leaving qualification is only equivalent to UK GCSE/GCE O level standard, you may still be eligible for programmes such as the Diplomas, which must be studied at specific institutions (please see list on page 10). On completion of these programmes you can transfer to the related undergraduate degrees. Graduate Entry routes If you already hold an undergraduate degree, you may be eligible for Graduate Entry, which would enable you to complete our LLB and LSE-directed degrees in only two years. Holding an MBA from one of the most prestigious universities in the world gave me an edge and helped in securing my present job at a leading pan African oil and energy services company. The company needed a lawyer with a business enabling mentality and strong business orientation, specifically a lawyer with an international MBA. Omogbemi Adelagun, MBA International, Nigeria Lawyer Omogbemi s MBA helped him secure his position as Group General Counsel and Company Secretary at AOS Orwell, a leading Pan African oil & energy services company in West Africa. He studied with support from the Centre for Law and Business in Nigeria. The University of London courses have increasingly challenged my analytical skills and argumentative abilities. I ve particularly enjoyed participating in online discussions with fellow students from all over the world. The insights of each and every one of them has added to my thoughts and widened my perspective. Mai Mahmoud, Diploma in Economics and BSc Banking and Finance, Egypt Mai started with the Diploma in Economics, before transferring to the BSc Banking and Finance degree, graduating with First Class Honours. She plans to pursue a career in academia and is currently a teaching assistant at the AAST in Cairo.
