1 Pocket ESA Network Server Installation This document details the installation and configuration of the networked version of Pocket ESA on a computer with Microsoft Windows XP/2000. Installation After agreeing to the GAEA Technologies Ltd licence agreement, Pocket ESA setup will present you with the dialog in Figure 1. Figure 1 Installing Pocket ESA Click Next since running Pocket ESA from the server is not necessary. The next dialog setup displays allows you to choose a database directory, as Figure 2 illustrates. 1

2 Figure 2 Selecting the Database Folder Click Change to choose a folder on the network to install the databases to. This is very important since the Network Monitor (discussed below) needs to know where on the network to install the Pocket ESA Network License. 2

3 Figure 3 Network Drive Database Directory In Figure 3 above, the network drive is Gaea (G:). If your networked drive does not automatically show up, you can manually map one by opening the Map Network Drive dialog through Microsoft Windows Explorer, as Figure 4 shows. 5 Select the appropriate folder, and click OK to accept. This will bring the dialog in Figure 5 back into focus. Make sure Drive: refers to drive you desire to Map on your local machine, and click Finish to accept the changes. Once Microsoft Windows XP/2000 maps the drive, continue with installation of Pocket ESA by selecting the drive and browsing to the appropriate folder. Click OK to accept the new folder; this will bring the dialog in Figure 2 back into focus. Click Next, and setup will display the dialog in Figure 7. Figure 7 Finalizing Installation Click Install and wait until setup completes copying files to your computer. Uncheck Launch the program and Show the readme file, as Figure 8 illustrates, and click Finish. 5

6 Figure 8 Wizard Completed Running the Network Monitor Once the installation is complete, the next step is to register the network. Click Start and select Programs (Microsoft Windows 2000) or All Programs (Microsoft Windows XP), then GAEA Pocket ESA Network Monitor, as in Figure 9. Figure 9 Starting Network Monitor This will start the Network Monitor, which will display the dialog in Figure 10. 6

7 Figure 10 Running Network Monitor Note: If this is the first time running the Network Monitor you will receive a message stating Network is not currently licensed. It is safe to ignore this warning, just click OK to continue. Click Unlock Network, this will display the dialog shown in Figure 11. Figure 11 Registering a Network License 7

8 Change the maximum number of users to the number of licenses you purchased, and enter the Network Unlock Code and User Unlock Code that GAEA Technologies Ltd sent you, then click Ok. If you entered both codes correctly, the Network Monitor will display a message saying Network Unlock Codes have been stored. Click Ok to dismiss this dialog; the network is now registered. Setting up the Clients You will need to install a copy of Pocket ESA on every client machine you want to connect to the network. Once this is done, open the Preferences dialog by clicking the menu item Figure 12 displays. Figure 12 Displaying Pocket ESA Preferences This will show the dialog in Figure 13. 8

9 Figure 13 Pocket ESA Preferences Click next to the Main Database Directory and browse for the folder you selected in the Installation step above (see Figure 2 and Figure 3). Click OK to accept the changes. Close and re-open Pocket ESA so that it can properly notify the network. Pocket ESA is now connected and ready to use. Monitoring Connections You can monitor which clients are logged into the network by running the Network Monitor on the server, which will display a dialog similar to Figure 14. 9

10 Figure 14 Monitoring the Network In this example, there are 4 licenses registered, meaning a maximum number of 4 users may use the network simultaneously. There is currently one user logged into the network, from the machine SD3-SD3 on the network. 10
