It s power to communicate messages and ideas hasn t been lost on businesses either with an estimated 83% of marketers saying they use Twitter for business and 72% of Twitter followers of a brand reporting that they re more likely to purchase a product from that brand because of the online relationship they ve already formed. 1
2 Against stats like these it s hard to imagine why anyone in business wouldn t want to spend a great deal more of their time talking to their clients and customers on social media and this guide has been written expressly to help you get more retweets and spread your reach organically and extensively across a huge audience. Use Mentions The number one way to get more retweets from your own posts is to mention others in your tweets. Links add interest, create value, drive traffic and (if you re using the right landing pages) will capture leads. Use a link shortening service like bit.ly and you ll even be able to track traffic through the link which is an added bonus. 4. Play Nicely And Retweet Others What goes around comes around. Call it givers gain or karma when you re generous with your retweets other people are more likely to reciprocate. For the sake of a few seconds, a few times a day, whizzing through your Twitter stream looking for hot tweets to RT you ll be surprised how great a return it can bring. Boss Share the love. 4 7. Use Hashtags ##### According to a recent report by TrackMaven tweets with hashtags get around.301 retweets, while a tweet with no hashtags receives an average of only.0116 retweets. So USE HASHTAGS Not only will hashtags get you more retweets but they can also help you join or even lead the conversation. Used effectively hashtags are also a great way of tracking conversations particularly when associated with specific products or events. 8. Use Pictures If a picture paints a thousand words then why aren t you using them to supplement the conversation and make your message that much clearer? Trackmaven (them again) report that tweets with images received.404 retweets, compared to.133 with no images and postpreview picture tweets receive retweets on average. Research by Dan Zarella shows that pictures uploaded via pic.twitter.com get 94% more retweets than others and on top of that it s the only way the auto expand tool works. On top of that it s really important you use the correct size images for Twitter to get maximum effect. Don t just go recycling your old Facebook, Instagram or Google+ images but take time to craft images that convey the right message. You can do this using adobe photoshop or illustrator but for a quick and easy route use the online image editors at pic monkey or canva. Focus On Your Readers Interests It should be a fundamental requirement that you focus on your readers rather than yourself but far too many Tweeters focus on themselves and big up their own presence. Tweets that contain a self-reference are typically retweeted less than those that don t so focus on delivering value and being useful to your audience and above all do not make it all about YOU. While we re on the subject of topic it should come as no surprise that Tweeters who focus on popular and current content get more retweets than those who tweet about more obscure matters such as the contents of their catalogues or brochure. This will not only increase your chances of being retweeted enormously but will also increase the number of readers clicking on links contained within your tweets to follow up on your subsequent calls to action. There really is no excuse for poor content. If you re unsure of your own capability to write interesting material then find someone to do it for you. They don t need to take over your entire Twitter activity, the personal touch still works best but it pays to take time to get it right first.
