3 Industrial Engineering, Specialization Communication and Information Engineering In today's world data acquisition, transfer and analysis are of increasing significance: Temperature, air humidity, sound, air pollution, traffic density, radioactivity, heartbeat, blood sugar level, the location or even identification of people all these data and information can be measured, collected and then transmitted across the world by sensors. Information is the basis for decision making in everyday life as well as in politics and economy. And it requires a lot of different sources and pieces of information to get the overall picture. Modern systems often work with small distributed components including tag-like sensors which collect and preprocess a huge variety of data and then - using different networks and connections - transmit them on to high performance servers for complex processing. The potential uses of these cutting-edge systems are as numerous as the technologies themselves: Starting from mobile phones to modern living environments, in which applications could range from controlling and reducing energy consumption up to recognizing an emergency and initiating rescue. They also have a great potential in road transport and safety as they can be employed to warn of hazards, to avoid jams or to quickly reroute traffic. Due to the broad range of emerging applications, sensors, sensor networks and corresponding software systems demand continuous innovation to meet the ever-changing requirements today and in the future. Our degree course Industrial Engineering, Specialization Communication and Information Engineering aims to give you the skills you need to work anywhere from data acquisition, preprocessing, transmission, distribution and collection up to automatic analysis. You will develop your expertise in the fields of electrical engineering, signal processing and computer science and gain a sound understanding of the basics of business management. This will qualify you to face present and future challenges, to seize your chances and to creatively shape the world we inhabit. The large work experience and practical element as well as the interdisciplinary and truly international education will help you gain the breadth of knowledge and understanding you need when starting your career. What you will study In your first semesters you will gain a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical engineering, signal processing, computer science and business economics, enhance your subject knowledge in Mathematics and will be introduced to scientific research methods. The following semesters will then provide in-depth study. You will also be able to broaden your knowledge by choosing elective courses which suit your interests and career plans. The range of electives includes areas such as business planning, quality management, smart environments, advanced sensor technology, mobile systems or computer security. An interdisciplinary project will allow you to carry out an in-depth investigation of a topic of your choosing and will give you the chance to demonstrate your individual strengths and areas of specialism. In the 6 th semester you will have the choice of either studying abroad or doing a practical semester to gain valuable experience that sets you apart from the crowd and contributes to your personal and academic development.

4 In the 7 th semester you will finish your studies submitting your bachelor's thesis, followed by a presentation and open discussion. Career prospects Distributed systems find their way into more and more fields of application. They are used in mobile phones, smart buildings, traffic management, production plants (smart factory) as well as in fields of safety and security. Accordingly, there is a shortage of graduate engineers, particularly of those who are able to design, develop, implement, maintain and adapt such systems in different applications. Specific requirements for this bachelor's degree programme: Good knowledge of English (at least B2 level according to the Common European Framework (CEF) or equivalent). Interest in technical problems and innovative technologies. With this broad and interdisciplinary degree you will be highly sought after and ideally suited for national and international careers including soft- and hardware development, project management, automation, innovation management, consultancy or technical product management.
