2 We are all aware of how technology has changed our lives. A couple of years ago the release of the TV was revolutionary, a couple of years later, cell phones changed our lives forever and more recently the Internet has become an integral part of our lives. With all these changes taking place, it is natural that a better solution to our traditional communications needs had to evolve. In an ideal world, a better solution would be one where technology is simple, support is easily available, one account would pay all the communications needs and prices would be determined by competition and not monopoly. This ideal communications world is here: As part of the development infrastructure Sable Homes has installed an integrated Fibre-optic based FibreSuburb TM solution from ATEC. The FibreSuburb TM solution offers the following services to the estate: 1) Intercom Service to the Estate All the calls on the retreat are free of charge, i.e. all calls to your neighbors, the guardhouse or the clubhouse does not cost you a thing. 2) Fixed Line Telephone Service You will receive a XXXX number which works exactly the same as a Telkom phone. Calls made will be charged accordingly. 3) Internet - You will have access to the internet on a connection that is fast and the packages are upgradeable to suit your needs. Better still and unlike with a Telkom ADSL service, you do NOT need to pay telephone line rental fee to get an internet connection 4) address You can have an address at hazeldeanretreat.co.za. You can also keep your current one, as it will still work. 5) Centralized TV System From Phase 2 Onwards the estate has been fitted out with a State off the Art centralized IPTV DSTV distribution system to allow distribution of all Standard DSTV bouquets as well as 2 Customized Retreat Bouquets ( see Note later ). 6) You are supplied with a Special HD DSTV decoder and your house is preconfigured for TV and Telephone and Internet distribution with two points each installed Why ATEC? ATEC is a specialist telecommunications provider for gated communities. Our services are measured according to a service level agreement, which ensures far better service and response times than a traditional telecommunications company. ATEC identifiable staff will provide you with support in your unit via an onsite technician and a telephonic service desk. This support also covers problems with Computer usage and or / decoder usage as well as account subscriptions / charges. How does my monthly account look? Your basic Internet and Telephone connection fee, Internet modem, Telephone, DSTV Decoder and onsite support as well as a complementary 3GB of internet usage and a free address is included in your monthly Retreat Levy. Prior to occupation you will be provided with an application form on which you can indicate any additional services, such as a fixed line Telephone Line or larger internet packages. You will receive one monthly account from ATEC for payment of line rental, telephone costs and internet usage above the 1GB of complementary internet as per your subscribed package. How many network points does my house have? Your house will have WiFi, one data point, one telephone point and two TV points. What support services will I get? You will receive both onsite and remote support. In order to report a problem you can phone the ATEC helpline or send an to the ATEC support desk. Response times to all queries are guaranteed via a Service Level Agreement. Page 2

3 How does this benefit me? Your FibreSuburb TM services benefit you in the following ways: 1) No waiting for services if you notify the Developer of your intended occupation one week prior to such date, your telephone, intercom, internet and TV services will be available immediately. 2) Excellent Service Levels ATEC s service is governed according to an agreement that ensures that 3) Single Point of Responsibility - ATEC will look after all your telephone, internet and TV needs, so there is no need for you to work with multiple companies. How much does this cost extra? The basic service fee, which includes support for the TV, Telephone and Internet, as well as a complementary 3GB of Internet Usage are included in the Retreat Levy. Additional Internet packages are competitively priced and telephone calls are charged at standard Telkom rate. Will my old decoder still work? No, a special DSTV decoder is required. One decoder is supplied as part of your unit and is owned and maintained by the Body Corporate. A second decoder can be made available for a once off payment. Will my fax machine and cordless phone still work? As long as your fax machine or handset is on the South African standard, it will still work on the system. As part of your installation you will receive a standard handset in order to ensure that you have telephone availability from day one. What equipment do I get as part of my ATEC installation? As part of the installation the following equipment is provided: A Network Plug Point which will connect to a Modem (Tilgin) to gain access to the internet. A Wireless internet connection per house A standard Big Button Telephone Handset (Cordless and Core phones available from ATEC directly) A HD IPTV Decoder with PVR recording capabilities Two TV points to plug your decoder into. 4 Network Plug Point and Modem The modem allows you to connect to the network. The modem will plug into the network plug as illustrated above. The modem, once connected, will provide telephony and allow you to receive your internet. The options for gaining access to the internet are either through wireless (your computer or laptop must have a wireless feature) or through a fixed wired connection (computer cable plugged directly from the modem to your computer). An ATEC technician will setup your computer, the connection to the network and your telephone (which also acts as your intercom). A security access key (WEP Key) will be provided which will allow your computer to have permanent access to the internet. New user/computers will need to get this key too be connected to your network, so please keep this key safe. Telephone Big Button Telephone with Extra loud ringer The standard phone received is Big Button Telephone which will act as your intercom and is used for internal and external calls. Page 4

5 TV Plug Point Your Television will plug into a Television Point as illustrated below. Standard coaxial cable (TV cable) is required to plug into the Television point from your Decoder. IPTV Decoder A Multichoice IPTV decoder is provided to allow you to connect to the Retreat TV Distribution network. You are able to subscriber directly to: a. The Multichoice Bouquet of your Choice b. One of the Two Custom Hazeldean Retreat Bouquets providing excellent value for money c. If you do not choose either of the above you need to subscribe to the basic DSTV Bouquet for approximately R 20 per month in order to receive a TV signal User Manual Each resident will receive a hard copy of the User Manual. An electronic version is readily available on the estateportal TM. The user manual will assist with any procedures concerning the network, equipment and the estateportal TM i.e. accounts, forums, communication etc. Page 5

6 How does the intercom system work? Your telephone will act as the intercom system as well. The guards will phone you on your telephone to announce a visitor. Additionally, all calls on the estate between residents, the guard house and the clubhouse are free of charge, if you use the short dial codes. How does the short numbers work? Your quick dial number is linked to your unit number, so if you are unit 100, you quick dial number would be In order to dial a free number on the estate you would then dial only the short dial number, in other words When will I know what my new telephone number is? Your new telephone number is already allocated to your unit. If you wish to find out what this number is you can contact the ATEC Helpdesk on I want to install a Wireless Hotspot in my house, can this be done? ATEC can assist in installing an extra Wireless device in your house at an additional cost. Additional internet and top-up packages can be purchased from ATEC via the e-stateportal TM or by phoning the ATEC Helpdesk Your internet package can be upgraded at any time of the month and can be downgraded for the next month. What Internet Speed will I have? You will have some of the fastest internet speeds available in the area. The entry level speed is 10 mbps, which is upgradable to 20 mbps if required. Can ATEC help me to set up programs to call my family overseas via the Internet? As part of ATEC s Support and Service offering, they will help you to make the internet easier to use. By installing programs like Skype and having the correct equipment, you will be able to phone your family overseas without any call costs. Where can I get more information?
