2 IMPORTANT GUIDELINES School & Mental Health Counseling 1. Check the list of schools/agencies enclosed and rank select two or three according to your convenience. 2. Before contacting the placement site, prepare a resume and cover letter to have for your upcoming interview. 3. Call the contact person at the site and inquire if they would want to have your resume before an interview is arranged. If not, proceed to arrange an appointment to be interviewed. 4. The agency site supervisor must hold an appropriate Master s Degree, be on site, and have a minimum of 3 years experience. They must be licensed as either a Mental Health counselor, a Clinical Social Worker, a Psychologist, Psychiatrist or a Nurse or Nurse Practitioner (the last 3 must have a minimum of 3 years of Mental Health experience). The school supervisor should hold an appropriate Master s Degree, be certified, be tenured in their district and have 3 years experience. Private schools do not offer tenure. Violence Prevention Workshop and Fingerprinting must be completed before you apply for NY State provisional certification. Fingerprinting packets can be obtained from the Clinical Education & Certification Office, Library Room 308, C.W. Post Campus. Most places require the fingerprints before you start the practicum. The Child Abuse Workshop, DASA and Project S.A.V.E. Violence Prevention Workshops are also department requirements for SCO majors. The Child Abuse Workshop is a department requirement for MHC majors.
