1 POLLING PLACE CHANGES FOR THE UPCOMING AUGUST 27, 2013 CITY OF BIRMINGHAM ELECTIONS There are changes to City of Birmingham polling locations for the August 27, 2013 regular municipal elections as a result of the 2011 Redistricting Plan adopted by the Birmingham City Council. Due to the provisions of Alabama Act No (attached), these polling locations are dependent on voting locations and precincts set by Jefferson County. Most city voters will vote at what will be their regular county voting location, which may have changed due to the County's redistricting. However, those who would vote at a location outside the city will be assigned to a location within the city limits, as has been done since Notices to voters of their proper polling locations will be sent out in a mass mailing several weeks prior to the election scheduled for August 27, City residents should watch their mail for these notices and keep the information on hand for August 27. The list of registered City of Birmingham voters and their assigned voting precincts will also be published in the Birmingham News prior to the election. Additionally, voters may call the Jefferson County Board of Registrars to learn of their assigned polling locations or may access the information on-line through the following websites (available July 19, 2013): (Interactive site for maps of precincts and polling locations) (On-line query for individual voter polling place assignments) It is important to note that this election will be the first combined election for the Mayor, Council and the Board of Education. Several polling locations will host voters from more than one district. Thirty-two polling locations will host voters from two different districts. Eight locations will host voters from three different districts. This will result in some locations having ballots and voters for more than one district voting at the same location. Voters will only be allowed to vote for a Mayoral candidate, a candidate for Council and the Board of Education aligned in the district in which that voter lives. Votes cast in a district other than where the voter lives are unlawful under Alabama law. Where there is a question as to the district or location where a voter is entitled to vote, Alabama law provides for provisional ballots. This will allow the voter to demonstrate to the Board of Registrars that he or she is entitled to vote at that location and in that district. Below is a summary of voting location changes and new voting locations.
