4 Background Wayne State University is a Carnegie Doctoral/ Research Extensive institution located in Detroit, Michigan. Over 40,000 students annually Three semesters per academic year Almost 6,000 course withdrawals for undergraduate and graduate students are processed per semester. Board of Governors approved major revisions to the grading policy effective Fall term,

6 Withdrawal Process - Past Use pre-printed Add/Drop form Deliver for instructor approval Collect appropriate approval signatures Deliver completed form physically to the Registrar s office MANUAL data entry 6

7 Course Withdrawals Students who request to withdraw from classes will be assigned one of the three following grades: WP WF WN Withdrawal Passing Withdrawal Failing Withdrawal Never Attended or No Graded Work to Date Beginning 5th week of the term Notations do not affect GPA 7

22 How Is It Doing?! In first semester of use, almost 6,000 withdrawal requests were initiated and processed. Almost 80% of faculty responded to requests in 5 business days or less. At the end of the semester 95% of the requests were addressed. 22
