The Phoenicians XX VII B.C. Vines reach what in now Lebanon and are carried by Phoenicians to Greece and Sicily.
The Greeks VIII IV B.C. The Greeks cultivate vine in various parts of the island (Syracuse Naxos Selinunte); the greek grape is mentioned, homer mentions sicilian wine in the odyssey in the story of Polyphemus.
The Romans IV B.C. V A.C. The Romans cultivate vines extensively; the most widely mentioned are those of Taormina, Potumanum, Mamertino, the latter being Julius Ceaser s favorite.
The Arabs VII X A.C. The Arabs develop the use of irrigation and import the Zibibbo or Moscato di Alessandria grape from cape Zebib in North Africa.
The British 1773 The British invent the wine of Marsala and the english fleet carries it to five continents.
The Pedemonteses 1860 Garibaldi and the Piedemonteses conquer Sicily by 1860 the extent of vineyards in Sicily its peak, hectares.

VIRTUS VINI PROJECT Planeta with Engisud and the University of Palermo, has participated to the VirtusVini project. The monitoring of the micro-climate in the vineyard has been studied through the use of characterizing parameters, such as temperature, light exposure, and relative humidity; also, an anemometer has been used for monitoring wind intensity and direction, obtaining a precise chronology of the product life cycle, beginning from the grape up to the production of wine.

VIRTUS VINI PROJECT WINE CELLAR The monitoring of the micro-climate in the cellar has been studied through the use of characterizing parameters (temperature and relative humidity), precisely in the wine storage room, in order to constantly monitor the environmental parameters that mostly influence the quality of barreled wine (i.e., controlled through an automated conditioning system). The system is also environmentally friendly, as it favors energy saving by allowing to customize the usage of the conditioning system to the specific needs.

VIRTUS VINI PROJECT The storage room (barricaia) is extensive square meter 600

CONCLUSION Control of all the parameters is very important because you can to intervene immediatly saving energy and water.
VIRTUS VINI PROJECT Monitoring the basement is important because, according to the current season, temperature and relative humidity might vary a lot. In addition, the number of the barrique might vary a lot as well. The main objective is to use use the thermo conditioner only when pre-established parameters decrease to a set level.
