The wineries where you can take a guided tour are: Ulmo Winery - Sambuca di Sicilia (AG) Dorilli Winery-Vittoria (RG) Buonivini Winery- Noto (SR) Feudo di Mezzo Winery on Mt. Etna - Castiglione di Sicilia (CT) Each Planeta winery boasts a unique history and features. Ulmo is Planeta s historical estate on the shores of Lake Arancio, while the Buonivini winery is characterized by its eco-friendly atmosphere. In Dorilli, Planeta also organizes cooking classes during which participants can learn the secrets of traditional Sicilian cuisine and taste the typical dishes of the Planeta family. Feudo di Mezzo on Mt. Etna is the site of a new mountain wine-growing enterprise. On request, you can visit the Dispensa winery at Menfi, the firm s productive heart, and the olive grove in Contrada Capparrina, an oasis of rare natural beauty. 2 A JOURNEY IN SICILY: the wineries ULMO - Sambuca di Sicilia (AG) Located near the village of Sambuca di Sicilia, on the banks of Lake Arancio, Ulmo was the first Planeta winery, inaugurated in Here, we produce the Alastro, Chardonnay, Plumbago, Merlot and Syrah, all from the surrounding vineyards. An ancient 16th-century baglio, or stone farmhouse, overlooks the estate which is also home to the Iter Vitis open-air museum dedicated to the history of the Sicilian viticulture. The La Segreta nature trail offers three possible walks through the vineyards, allowing visitors to discover wild spots and unique landscapes. BUONIVINI - Noto (SR) Located near the late Baroque UNESCO World Heritage towns of Noto and Modica, the Buonivini winery takes its name from the ancient district where it is located. The Nero d Avola and Moscato Bianco grapes used to make our Santa Cecilia DOC Noto and Passito di Noto DOC wines are grown here. At this estate, the Planeta family has taken an eco-friendly approach to the renovation: very closed to vineyards visitors may stay at Case Sparse, small red-painted lodgings renovated in keeping with local traditions and furnished with Costanza Algranti s creations, all made from recycled materials. DORILLI - Vittoria (RG) The Dorilli winery was built by Planeta to create a hospitality venue, restoring and recovering an ancient wine cellar and the adjacent farmhouse dating from the early twentieth century. The vineyards surrounding the winery yield the Nero d Avola and Frappato grapes used for the wine blends wines produced: Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG and Dorilli. Since 2006, Cerasuolo di Vittoria is Sicily s only denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin. FEUDO DI MEZZO - Castiglione di Sicilia (CT) The Feudo di Mezzo winery is located on Mt. Etna in the contrada of the same name, in a spectacular position within a lava flow dating from 1566, just a few meters away from the Sciara Nuova and Montelaguardia vineyards. Built using materials typical of the area, the Feudo di Mezzo winery is the perfect blend of modern architectural design and local traditions. Four Planeta wines will be produced here and the restoration works on the old winemaking buildings will be completed in the summer of 2013.
