Overfield Road Coolidge, AZ Phone: (520) Fax: (520) Name of Program: Fire Science Technology AAS Program Description: The Fire Science Technology Associate in Applied Science (AAS) is designed for students who need (1) advanced training as professional firefighters, (2) basic preparation courses for a career in fire services, and/or (3) more comprehensive information about fire hazard and prevention. Practical firefighting, hazardous materials, related operations, and fire service management are emphasized in this program with history and theory used where necessary to assist professionals to cope with current challenges in the field. The Degree can be used by professional firefighters for promotions and salary advancement within the Fire Services. The unique feature of the Degree is that the instructors will be professional firefighters and/or licensed Emergency Medical Training Personnel. Campuses: Statewide/District Program- DSP Semester Hours: Pre-requisites: EMS125 (Basic EMT or equivalent), IEMT or Paramedic*** Co-requisites: None Recommended Proficiencies: 1. Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in all courses within the program. 2. If pursuing Bachelor's degree program, contact department advisor. 3. Some courses require a prerequisite course/class. 4. Some courses require State of Arizona Fire Marshal certification(s). 5. Some courses require State of Arizona Dept. of Health Services certification(s). 6. Some courses require American Heart, Red Cross, or other certifying agency course completion in CPR.

Computer Competency (3) CIS110 or above Cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 (C) on a 4.0 scale. Minimum of 20 credits must be completed at Central Arizona College in combined Required Courses, Restricted Electives and General Education. Note: Requirements for Basic EMT (EMS125), IEMT (EMS208) or Paramedic (EMS272) are regulated by the Arizona Dept of Health Services and are not negotiable. Learning Outcome Statements: Upon completion of this degree, the student will be able to: 1. Recognize and identify the chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials.(fsc129) 2. Explain processes utilized in dealing with hazardous materials. (FSC129) 3. Describe the problems concerning fire prevention techniques, procedures, regulations, code enforcement, and occupancy survey. (FSC108) 4. Describe the characteristics and behavior of fire and extinguishing agents. (FSC140) 5. Describe fire suppression organization, basic fire fighting tactics, and public relations as affected by fire suppression. Explain the theory of fire behavior, phases of fire, types of fire and methods of fire control. (FSC140) 10. Describe the types, functions and maintenance of fire apparatus. (FSC140,117) 11. Explain the tactical operations applied to a structural fire and the importance of early salvage. (FSC140) 12. Explain pounds per square inch, gallons per minute, friction loss, nozzle pressure, and engine pressure as they relate to fire hydraulics. (FSC118) 13. Solve various hydraulic problems. (FSC118) 14. Demonstrate ability to disentangle a patient from a wrecked automobile using extrication tools. (FSC238) 15.
