2 SPEAKERS Jenny Bevill Jenny Bevill earned her BFA from Parsons School of Design in 1987 and her MA from Teachers College in 1992 and has been collaborating with NYC schoolteachers ever since to bring visual arts into the classroom. In addition to the Guggenheim Museum s Learning Through Art program, which she joined in 2004, she has worked with the following organizations in museum-related and/or interdisciplinary programs based in public elementary schools: The Center for Arts Education, The Brooklyn Museum, LEAP and the Sites for Students Program. Jenny also spent 7 years leading outdoor arts programs with a focus on exploration and sustainability for the Battery Park City Parks Conservancy. She has a studio in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn where she makes collages and sculptures which she shows very occasionally. You can see her work at Ingrid Butterer Since the Fall of 2000 Ingrid Butterer has been an instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University guiding students in courses such as Artistic Development of Children, Processes and Structures and Lesson Planning. She is a frequent presenter at the National Art Education Association annual conference speaking on topics such as effective dialogue, the benefits of materials exploration in relationship to representational work and assessment. Ingrid is currently working on her doctorate in Art and Art Education at Teachers College. Her research is focused on the nature of material exploration activity as it relates to adolescent artistic development. Ingrid works as a public school art teacher in Brooklyn, New York. Edward P. Clapp Edward P. Clapp has served the field of the arts and arts education as an arts administrator, teaching artist, researcher, and practicing artist. He currently works as an independent professional development leader and curriculum designer for various Boston-based arts education organizations while concurrently pursuing his doctoral studies at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Broad in scope, Edward s research interests include 21 st Century arts teaching and learning, creativity and innovation studies, developing alternative approaches to mentorship, and the complex issues associated with generational shifts in leadership particularly as they relate to the arts sector. In 2010 Edward published the much anticipated anthology 20UNDER40: Re-Inventing the Arts and Arts Education for the 21 st Century ( an influential collection of twenty essays about the future of the arts and arts education written by young and emerging arts professionals under the age of 40. In addition to his work on 20UNDER40, Edward sits on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals, including the Harvard Educational Review and Visual Inquiry: Learning and Teaching Art. Edward holds an Ed.M. in arts education from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, an M.Litt. in creative writing from the University of Glasgow/Strathclyde, and a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. Plays written by Edward have been produced in New York, and his academic writing, poetry, and fiction have appeared in journals and anthologies throughout the USA and abroad. Originally from Long Island, NY, Edward currently lives in Somerville, MA.

3 Marit Dewhurst Marit Dewhurst is the Director of Art Education and Visiting Assistant Professor in Art Education at City College of New York. She received her doctorate in education from Harvard University in 2009 where she worked on the intersection of activist art-making and social justice education. She has worked as an educator and program coordinator in multiple settings both nationally and abroad including community centers, museums, juvenile detention centers, and international development projects. Most recently, she founded and coordinated The Museum of Modern Art s free studio arts programs for teens. Publications include chapters in several books on the use of art in social justice education and articles in The Journal of Art Education and The Journal of Research Practice. In addition, she has co-curated an exhibition on traditional art and HIV/AIDS education with partners at The Michigan State University Museum. Her research and teaching interests include social justice education, community-based art, youth empowerment, and the role of the arts in community development both locally and abroad. Rosanna Flouty Rosanna Flouty is the Public Programs Manager for the BMW Guggenheim Lab. Previously, she was the Associate Director of Education at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston, where she oversaw programming initiatives for teens, families and after-hours events for adults from Rosanna began at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in the Education department from 2000 to 2006, and as Manager for New Media was responsible for overseeing technology-based programs at the Sackler Center for Arts Education. She holds an MA in Art + Design Education from Rhode Island School of Design, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Urban Education with a focus in Interactive Technology and Pedagogy under a five-year fellowship at CUNY. Emily Gibson Emily has taught gallery- and studio-based classes in museums and schools throughout NYC, including the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Jewish Museum, and public schools in Harlem and the South Bronx. For Emily, learning about art enables students to explore complex realms of human experience and she hopes to inspire them to imagine solutions for the situations that challenge them. When not engaged with students, she can be found working in her studio. She earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute, teaching certification through Pratt, and MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art. As a graduate student, she traveled and studied Asian art, spending time in Shanghai, Beijing, and Tokyo. Ardina Greco Ardina Greco is an artist and museum educator who has worked on both the East and West coasts. She teaches at The Victor D Amico Institute of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim Museum, and the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum. Additionally, Ardina has worked as a museum educator for The Jewish Museum, and the San Diego Museum of Art. Ardina is also a doctoral candidate and adjunct instructor in the Art and Art Education program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Ardina has a B.F.A. from San Francisco Art Institute and an ED.M in Art and Art Education from Teacher s College Columbia University. Ardina is interested in the potentially puzzling quality of artwork and strongly believes that art requires people to interact with it and make it meaningful.

4 Michelle Hagewood Michelle is an Education Associate with Learning Through Art at the Guggenheim and works closely with Guggenheim teaching artists in coordinating residencies in the New York public schools and oversees the dissemination of the Art of Problem Solving study among other responsibilities. Previous to the Guggenheim, Michelle was Senior Education Coordinator in Family Programs at the Walters Art Museum where she organized large-scale festivals and developed programs for intergenerational and underserved audiences of Baltimore. Also a practicing artist, Michelle holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Jeff Hopkins Jeff Hopkins has been with Learning Through Art at the Guggenheim since 2007 and has extensive experience as an artist and educator in museum settings including MoMA, the Whitney, Museum of Fine Arts, etc. Jeff holds an Ed.M. from Harvard University and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. Jeff holds a practice based in illustration, storytelling, and performance. Jeff has done illustration projects for educational book publishers, magazines and advertising agencies. Other clients include Young & Rubicam, The Keith Haring Foundation, New York Law School, BBDO Inc., Magnet Pictures and Curious Pictures/ Nickelodeon Networks. Greer Kudon Greer is the Senior Education Manager, Learning Through Art here at the Museum. She oversees all aspect of LTA. Before joining the Guggenheim she was Senior Manager of School Programs and Outreach at The Jewish Museum, responsible for the development and implementation of exhibitbased arts education programming for students and teachers. At the Whitney Museum of American Art, she served as the Head of School Programs where she developed and supervised school group museum visits, multi-session outreach programs, professional development workshops and a weeklong Summer Institute for educators. Greer was a bilingual (Spanish) 5th grade teacher at PS 28 in New York. She holds a M.A. in visual arts administration from New York University s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, and a B.A. in art history/spanish from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Alyson Shotz Alyson Shotz is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Alyson graduated with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1987 and received her MFA from the University of Washington in She was recently included in the exhibitions* The More Things Change,* at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, *Contemplating the Void* at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, *Living Color*, at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, and *The Shapes of Space* at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. She has had solo exhibitions at the Wexner Center for the Arts, in Columbus, OH, The Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, TX, Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT, The Tang Teaching Museum in Saratoga, NY, and The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in Madison, WI. Shotz received the Pollock Krasner Award in 2010, the 2007 Saint Gaudens Memorial Fellowship, and was the Happy and Bob Doran Artist in Residence at Yale University Art Gallery. Her work is included in numerous public collections, such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA and the Guggenheim Museum, New York.

5 Shari Tishman Shari Tishman is the Director of Project Zero and a Lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her research focuses on the development of thinking and understanding, learning in and through the arts, and learning in museums. Recent projects include: The Qualities of Quality: Excellence in Arts Education and How to Achieve It, Learning in and from Museum Study Centers, Artful Thinking, a program that helps classroom teachers use works of art in subjects across the curriculum in ways that strengthen student thinking and learning; and Visible Thinking, an approach to the teaching of thinking that emphasizes the development of thinking dispositions, the use of "thinking routines," and the documentation of student thinking and learning. Currently, Shari is Principal Investigator of Artful Thinking, a program in development by Project Zero in collaboration with the Traverse City, Michigan Area Public Schools (TCAPS). Shari has authored and co-authored several articles, books, and curriculum materials about high-level thinking and its development.
