Box Tulsa, OK Bad weather, bad traffic and road construction can cause our vehicles to run behind schedule. We know it s an inconvenience, but please be understanding of our drivers if they re running late. They re doing their best to get you to your destination on time. If our buses run 30 minutes or more behind schedule, and the fault is Tulsa Transit s, we ll give you a courtesy card that is redeemable at either station. And, we ll call your employer if necessary to notify them of your delay. Because of traffic, weather conditions, and other unavoidable delays, Tulsa Transit considers its buses on-time unless they are ten minutes late. The 318 and 471 routes are considered High Traffic Routes, and during peak traffic times delays on these routes are not uncommon.

10 Get the Right Bus Pass Tulsa Transit sells a variety of bus passes. When purchasing a bus pass, be sure you request and receive the correct type. Some passes, such as the Reduced Fare 10-ride pass, require a special identification card to allow use of that pass. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure they purchase and receive the correct pass for their use on Tulsa Transit buses. Ride the Bus All Around Tulsa Tulsa Transit buses can take you practically anywhere you want to go in Tulsa with additional service to Jenks, Sand Springs and Broken Arrow. This Traveler is a guide to help you get to where you want to go. Tulsa Transit does not print individual schedules. This brochure is designed to provide all the information you need about Tulsa Transit s services in a format that is both easy to handle and easy to use. Let Us Help You Plan Your Trip By calling our Call Center at , you can have assistance in planning your trip any day of the week. Our Call Center has representatives ready to assist you from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday. We ll be happy to give you schedule and route information. In order to assure prompt service, here are some tips when calling for information. 1. Have paper and pencil ready. 2. Be ready to tell the representative Where you are starting your trip Where you want to travel What time you want to arrive What days of week you want to travel (schedules vary on Saturdays) It s Easy to Plan Your Trip 1. Start by finding your destination on the system map in the center of this book. Determine which route goes to your destination. There may be more than one route traveling by your destination. Please note that if a route has a dotted line on any part of the route the bus will not travel to this area of the route on all trips. 2. Find the starting point where you will catch the bus. 3. Decide which route or routes you need to take. Each route has a name and number. (Example 222 Pine/41st St.) Be sure to check the route s direction of travel when planning your trip. (Example, to downtown or from downtown or northbound or southbound ). 4. Some trips require more than one bus which means you will need to transfer from one bus to another. If you will need to transfer, find the intersection of the two routes. This is where you will exit the first bus and board the second. 5. Reading a timetable is simple once you know how. Determine the direction and time period you ll be traveling. Pick the timing point nearest your departure location. Below the timing point locate your departure time. Read the times from left to right to estimate arrival and departure times. Remember that weekday and Saturday time schedules are different. And some routes don t have Saturday service. If there is a stop on the time table that does not have a time this will mean that the bus will not travel to that stop on that trip. 8 Tulsa Transit Route Guide

11 6. Plan to arrive at your bus stop at least 5 minutes early prior to the time listed. To determine the correct boarding time, look at the timetables provided on the schedule or call Time to Ride Use the timing point that appears before your starting point to determine what time to arrive at the bus stop. It s better to be at the bus stop 5 minutes early rather than late! Bus stops are marked with a bus stop sign or bus shelter. Sometimes buses have to make detours from the regular route due to various reasons. Call for further detour information. If there is not a bus stop within one city block in either direction from where you want to catch the bus, please stand on the far side of the intersection (past the intersection in the direction that the bus is traveling) or in a safe location for the bus to stop, visible to the operator. Signal the operator to stop and step to the curb to let the operator know you want to board as the bus approaches. Flashing lights will indicate the bus is slowing down to a stop. Be sure to read the destination sign on the bus as it approaches as some bus stops serve many routes. That means a bus may come by that is not going where you want to go. Be sure you re getting on the right bus by looking for the route number on the destination sign above the front window of the bus. Do not try to catch a bus if the destination sign reads To Garage or Special Service. Boarding the Bus Please have your bus fare ready before boarding. All buses have fareboxes that accept fare cards, passes, cash, coins and bus tokens. If you don't have exact fare, the farebox can print a change card for you that can be used for future trips on Tulsa Transit. Please Note: Change cards do expire within 1 year of issue date. For more details on how to use the farebox, see page 13. When you see a bus coming, determine if it is the correct bus by reading the route number and destination of the bus on the destination sign on the front of the bus. Flashing lights indicate that the bus is slowing down to a stop. When your bus approaches, step to the curb to let the operator know you want to board. Step aboard and pay fare. If you plan to transfer to another bus make sure to ask for your U-2 pass. Hold on to the handrails as you find a seat, as the bus may begin to move before you sit down. Please ask for assistance or information from driver when entering or exiting the bus, not while bus is in motion. Tulsa Transit Route Guide 9

12 Exiting the Bus Within a block of your stop please signal the driver that you want off by pulling the metal cord, between the windows or above your seat. The operator will stop at the closest safe place. Please be sure to give the driver enough notice so that he may make a smooth stop. You can purchase your tickets online. Please visit our website at and click on fares and passes to purchase your pass today. If you are not familiar with the area, ask your driver when you board to please let you know when you are nearing your destination. Please exit the bus from the rear door when possible to allow other passengers to board. To open the rear door, push on the door s silver bars. Carefully step off the bus. Tulsa Transit operates public transit service without regard to race, color or national origin. 13 Ride On - Bike and Bus Bike and Bus your way around town. With a bike rack on every bus, you are now able to make bike riding a part of your regular commute. Wherever Tulsa Transit goes, your bike can go too! Traveling by bike and bus is a great way to stay in shape, save money and improve our air quality. The Basics of the Bike Rack Bike racks are available on all Tulsa Transit buses. Remove water bottles, pumps or any loose items that might fall off. As the bus approaches, have your bike ready to load. Each rack holds two bikes and is mounted on the front of the bus. If the rack is full, please ask the bus operator if you can board the bus with your bike or wait for the next bus. Tell the operator you are loading your bike. Be sure the operator sees you before you step in front of the bus. Always load and unload your bike from the curb side. Never step into traffic. Cyclists must load and unload their own bikes. The bus operator cannot assist. Bikes cannot be locked while on the bike rack. Sit near the front of the bus to keep an eye on your bike. Bikes are transported at the owner s risk. Passenger Risks Assumed Riding on a public transit vehicle is one of the safest ways to travel. Tulsa Transit drivers are well trained and Tulsa Transit maintains an excellent safety record. However, Tulsa Transit does not have control over the actions of other drivers on the road. As a rider on a Tulsa Transit vehicle you assume the passenger risks involved in the normal operation of a moving vehicle on public streets, such as sudden stops, evasive movements, and turns. Your seat may not be equipped with a seat belt. You should always hold on to a hand rail while the vehicle is in motion. Likewise, if you are riding as a standee you should secure yourself by holding onto a stanchion or hand rail at all times.
