Executive Summary NATIONAL INITIATIVES The OERC staff continued to provide planning and evaluation support for the K-12, MedlinePlus Connect, Community College, and ClinicalTrials.gov Results DataBase national initiatives. The task forces required considerable support from the OERC staff this quarter as they finalized plans and prepared reports for the annual Directors meeting in May Two, and sometimes three, OERC staff members participated in the nine task force meetings held during this quarter. Olney also attended 10 additional meetings with task force chairs to plan task force teleconferences and prepare Directors Meeting reports. In March, the MedlinePlus Connect task force met face-to-face in Chicago for a planning meeting. Olney and Barnes worked with Cathy Burroughs to develop the agenda for that meeting. Olney completed a key informant interview report, synthesizing data submitted by task force members. Findings were presented and discussed at the task force meeting. MID-CONTRACT REVIEWS The OERC began working with NNO in preparing for the mid-contract site reviews, scheduled to begin in in July. Barnes organized and facilitated an Adobe Connect session with ADs and Directors to discuss preparations and activities in support of the upcoming mid-contract virtual reviews. Blake compiled schedules for administering questionnaires to network members of all 8 regions to collect feedback in support of the upcoming midcontract virtual reviews.
Consultations Olney worked with the NN/LM Community College task force and met with chairs Claire Hamasu and Ruth Holst to plan meeting agendas. She assisted the chairs in writing a final report that included findings from the key informant interviews conducted in 2012, along with the task force outreach strategies and evaluation plan. She also developed evaluation questionnaires and data collection procedures for the task force evaluation process. The forms and procedures were reviewed and approved (pending changes) at an April task force meeting. (Ongoing) In collaboration with Web-STOC, Barnes supported the Community College task force by developing a procedure for identifying which network members are community colleges and pilot-tested the procedure with Karen Vargas of NN/LM SCR. The spreadsheets were created for each of the other seven regions listing the LIBIDs of community college network members. Barnes and Olney attended the NN/LM Clinical Trials task force meetings. Olney developed the logic model and evaluation plan for the task force and submitted it to chair Dale Prince for feedback. She also developed slides for the Directors meeting presentation. (Ongoing) Barnes and Olney worked with chair Cathy Burroughs to plan a face-to-face MedlinePlus Connect task force meeting that took place at the Library of the Health Sciences, University of Illinois, Chicago, on March 21. Olney attended the meeting and facilitated the task force planning discussion. The task force reviewed key findings from key informant interviews conducted by task force members. (The report was written by Burroughs and Olney.) The task force planned outreach strategies and outreach evaluation processes. Burroughs and Olney used the information from the meeting to finalize a logic model and draft the task force plan and evaluation process. Olney also assisted Burroughs with her Directors meeting presentation. (Ongoing) Olney continued to work with the K-12 Cross-Regional task force. She developed forms to allow task force members to record their exhibits, presentations, and training sessions with K-12 audiences. She also designed two questionnaires to be used for assessing training activities. Terri Ottosen from the SE/A was the first task force member to use the session evaluation form at presentations given to faculty at two schools in North Carolina. She reported that it worked well. Olney assisted the task force chairs with a presentation for the annual Directors' meeting at MLA (Ongoing)
OERC Web site Maryanne Blake made changes to the OERC web site. Broken and out-of-date links were checked and changed or removed. The home page now reflects the images of the second edition of the series Planning and Evaluating Health Information Outreach Projects. Further changes are planned when the HTML and PDF versions of the booklets are ready to be linked from the web site. Also, the section Tools and Resources has been upgraded using the LibGuide content management system and new resources were added.
Dissemination of Best Practices BOOKLETS PUBLISHED Effective practices are presented in the OERC s Planning and Evaluating Health Information Outreach series of booklets. During this quarter, 58 print copies of the first- edition booklets were distributed, along with 3 copies of the "Measuring the Difference" Guide. The second edition of the booklet series is complete, and printed copies will be distributed to the RML Coordinators at the RML Directors Meeting in May TRAINING The OERC presented teleconferences for three regions during this quarter: Barnes presented a new teleconference called Why Evaluate an Outreach Project, about how to write evaluation sections for outreach project proposals. Olney presented the webinar Once Upon A Time for NER and GMR. The webinar presents ways to present evaluation findings that will engage stakeholders. QUARTERLY EVALUATION TELECONFERENCE The quarterly Evaluation Teleconference on March 26 was promoted to all NN/LM staff and RML Coordinators. The topic was "Understanding Rocket Science: A Conversation with NASA Langley Librarians about Needs Assessment and the Evolution of Their Library Services." Librarians John Liebhardt and Sally Schwaner of the NASA Langley Technical Library in Hampton, VA, discussed their assessment strategies for exploring the information needs of their user community of approximately 1500 science and engineering researchers.
Other Staff Activities TABLE 2. Classes, publications and resources developed by OERC staff Title Medium Submitted to MLA Educational Clearinghouse Once Upon a Time Webinar N Why Evaluate an Outreach Project Webinar N Barnes participated in Web-STOC's interviews for a new Lynux Systems Administrator and provided feedback about the candidates. Barnes and Olney began to build their skills for using the Tableau data visualization software. Barnes led the creation of a poster to be submitted to MLA describing the UW Health Science Librarians' participation in the UW Medical Center's implementation of Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE). Barnes participated in interviews of a new Web programmer for the OERC. This web programmer will work 10% for the OERC and 90% for HEAL-WA (another funded project run by the University of Washington Health Sciences Library). A new student assistant for the OERC, Sue Wozniak, began working for the OERC. Her duties will include compiling results of the eight network member questionnaires that will collect stakeholder feedback for the RMLs mid-contract site reviews. She also will input retrospective activity data into NLM's Outreach Portal and further develop the LibGuide page on evaluation resources and tools started by Maryanne Blake.
