Within se pages, we hope to give you a snapshot our very special Australian university which celebrates its 25th anniversary in Notre Dame is a university which extends from west coast, in beautiful and historic city Fremantle, to north-west town Broome, and across continent to our campus located in harbour city Sydney. The Broome Campus s mission is to be an effective force for Reconciliation among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-indigenous Australians and is home to Nulungu Research Institute. The campus fers a wide range Vocational Education Training (VET) programs which are all fered in mixedmodes enabling access for students from rural and remote communities, and pressional development programs and short courses. 8 Study pathways Notre Dame will help you find a study pathway in keeping with your personal aspirations that will lead you to make a difference in your future career. Double degrees With a Notre Dame double degree you can study two individual degrees at same time, in less time than doing m separately ten only requiring a one-year extension to your course. So if you re thinking completing two three-year Bachelor degrees, you can opt for a double degree and graduate with both in four or five years. Postgraduate and research qualifications Notre Dame fers a number postgraduate opportunities in coursework and research qualifications taught by leading industry pressionals and academic researchers. Applicants who are unsuccessful in obtaining a position in ir nominated course can also consider an alternative pathway into Notre Dame. Have you studied at TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)? Students who have successfully completed a relevant Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level qualification at TAFE or an RTO are considered to have met academic minimum entry requirements for access to many courses at Notre Dame. Students who have completed Diplomas or Advanced Diplomas through TAFE or an RTO may be eligible for advanced standing. Didn t complete your HSC or equivalent? The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is designed to provide an opportunity to those candidates who have not completed a recent or standard Year 12 qualification to demonstrate ir ability to cope with tertiary studies. Notre Dame requires applicants to complete both Written English and Multiple Choice forms STAT. Please refer to Course Table on page 87 Notre Dame Course Guide Tertiary Enabling Program Notre Dame s Tertiary Enabling Program (TEP) provides students with academic skills such as analysis, research and academic literacy to support m to meet Bachelor degree entry requirements. The course is an alternative pathway into Notre Dame whereby students can master competencies needed for successful undergraduate study. See page 23 for details. Foundation Year The Foundation Year (FY) is an alternative entry pathway to undergraduate studies at Notre Dame. The Foundation Year is an enabling course designed specifically for students who have not met undergraduate minimum entry requirements or who may have experienced educational disadvantage during ir school years. See page 21 for details. Real world learning Notre Dame graduates have a sound grounding in liberal arts, ory and skills for ir chosen pression and are work ready due to our extensive Internship Program. Practicum and internship Notre Dame fers more than just a textbook education. As part your undergraduate degree, you will get real-world experience and undertake extensive industry-based practicum and internship programs. This will allow you to apply what you ve learnt to your pression in a hands-on way, giving you a taste what your future career holds. These internship and practicum programs mean that you enter job market with experience that prospective employers want, thus maximising your employment prospects. Pressional accreditation At Notre Dame, you will receive an excellent standard training for your pression choice, with a focus on Work Integrated Learning. Notre Dame s pressional courses, in areas such as Accounting, Education, Human Resources, Law, Management, Marketing, Medicine and Nursing, meet all accreditation requirements relevant state, national and/or pressional bodies. 6

9 Fees, Loans and Scholarships Information Undergraduate Scholarships Introduction Selection for scholarships is typically a competitive process whereby candidates are ranked according to set criteria. Applicants are selected in January each year. In many cases, once a scholarship has been awarded, students are required to meet certain conditions, which usually include maintaining academic grades. Notre Dame Scholarships Each year, Notre Dame awards a number scholarships to high achieving applicants for each academic faculty. Academic Merit Scholarships may be awarded to successful domestic applicants who have demonstrated outstanding academic record and who will support mission and goals University. Scholarship application forms must be submitted by 31 December Scholarships are notified prior to ir enrolment. External Scholarships In addition to scholarships fered by University, a number scholarships are fered by external organisations. The Notre Dame website scholarships page contains useful information and links to a number external scholarship providers: Eligibility for se scholarships is usually based upon students ability to meet certain criteria. Postgraduate Scholarships Coursework Students For postgraduate students engaged in coursework, a number fieldspecific scholarships are available. Information on some se is available via Notre Dame website scholarships page: Your course coordinator may also be able to provide you with some advice in seeking out a suitable scholarship. Research Students Students enrolled in a higher degree by Research may apply for following scholarships: The Australian Postgraduate Award (for domestic students) The Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (for international students) Additionally, information regarding a number scholarships and awards is available via Notre Dame research website: Fees Students at The University Notre Dame Australia are able to pay ir fees upfront each semester, or alternatively y can access Higher Education Loans Program (HELP). This federally funded Program has two loan options: Students who have been fered a Commonwealth Supported Place can access HECS-HELP. Students who have been fered a fee paying place can access FEE-HELP. Below is more information about fees and who is eligible to receive assistance from government. Higher Education Loans Program (HELP) Each semester, students are issued with an invoice detailing units and fees for that semester. With each invoice student can decide how to pay - eir by accessing HELP (if eligible), or paying up-front. There are two separate HELP options, as mentioned above, that assist students with tuition fees: FEE-HELP & HECS-HELP. Only Australian Citizens and holders permanent humanitarian visas are eligible to access HELP. Australian permanent residents and New Zealand Citizens are NOT eligible to access HELP. A student is only able to access HELP to cover ir tuition fees. The HELP does not cover additional costs like textbooks, accommodation or stationery. The HELP is NOT means tested; all Australian citizens and humanitarian visa holders are eligible to receive HELP regardless ir income and assets or income and assets ir family. There is no application fee for requesting HELP. All HELP forms need to be returned to University before census date. The HELP debt is incurred immediately after census date. Students begin to pay back ir HELP loan once y start earning over $51,309 (as at tax year). The Tax Office calculates compulsory payments, and this depends on how much over threshold a person is currently earning. Therefore, more a person earns higher compulsory repayment will be until debt is repaid. There is no interest charged on a HELP loan, but loan is indexed annually to maintain its real value. If a student wishes to withdraw from a unit or a course, y need to withdraw before university census date and follow correct withdrawal procedures. If y withdraw after university census date y will be liable for semester cost unit or course. The University Notre Dame requires all payment fees to be made two weeks prior to commencement Semester. 11 Undergraduate Domestic Student Fees 2014 Sydney Campus How Fees Are Calculated The fees below are indicative a full-time load in each discipline areas and represent cost studying a fulltime load units within that discipline. For majority courses, however, not all units in a given course study are within same discipline. For example, students enrolled in Bachelor Education may undertake some units study from Education discipline and some from Arts discipline. In this example, student contribution for Arts units would be calculated against Arts discipline, while Education units would be calculated against Education discipline. Fees listed below are based upon normal full-time load for each individual course. Courses that require students to overload will attract higher annual fees. Fee levels vary from year to year and University makes no guarantee that 2014 fee levels will be maintained in future years. Commonwealth Supported Places The Commonwealth Government subsidises students at public universities with Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) and students contribute a part cost ir education. Notre Dame is a private university with limited CSP and is refore only able to fer a limited number CSP to students studying in National Priority courses Education, Nursing and Medicine. Students enrolled in Not For Degree study are required to pay full fees upfront. Notre Dame Fees Students in most degrees without CSP funding still benefit from tuition fees that are close to CSP-equivalent. The list below indicates an estimate 2014 first year tuition fees for Notre Dame courses. The actual cost will depend upon number and discipline units selected. Repayments can be deferred until students are in workplace. HECS-HELP FACTS Students who are Australian Citizens or holders Permanent Humanitarian Visas, and who have been allocated a CSP are eligible for a HECS-HELP loan. Please note: New Zealand Citizens and or permanent residents are eligible for Commonwealth rates but not for payment discount or loan. These students must make a full upfront payment ir fees each semester. Eligible students receive a discount 10% when y pay $500 or more ir student contributions (for a study period) up-front. On 1 January 2014, subject to passage legislation, HECS-HELP discount 10% for up-front student contributions will be removed. Voluntary repayments $500 or more towards an existing HECS-HELP debt attract a 5% bonus. From 1 January 2014, subject to passage legislation, voluntary repayment bonus 5% will be removed. Courses such as Education, Law and Nursing may attract higher fees and/or a greater study load per semester. Tuition fees may vary in subsequent years. Many courses have practicum and internship programs as a compulsory component, providing students with valuable industry experience and an opportunity to build networks that can lead to employment in future. In case where practicum or internship is optional, University assists student, where possible, to secure an appropriate placement. School Arts & Sciences Bachelor Arts The Arts Internship is a unit study available to 3 rd year students in areas Arts, Communications, English Literature, History, Politics, Sociology and Theatre Studies. The Arts Internship consists three components: Internship practical: 80 hours supervised experience in a relevant work context related to a student s major. Internship workshops: including seminars by recruitment experts covering topics necessary to prepare students for employment. Students undertaking studies in business are required to successfully complete 150 hours in a pressional workplace relevant to ir major.
