Individuals, governments and enterprises reflect more on their vulnerability and increasingly use security mechanisms for the protection of their IT systems. Modern enterprises optimize their business processes by means of innovative information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to meet the rising needs for flexibility and mobility. They improve their workflows with respect to productivity and quality gain. However, IT security aspects are not addressed satisfactorily yet or are completely neglected. The level of awareness for IT security is in fact too low. Only few enterprises apply strategic and technical measurements, and very few apply standardized and common methods. Although insecurity, lacking knowledge or not sufficiently trained personnel are commonly enumerated obstacles, the essential barriers are of financial nature (total cost of ownership). Thus, the economic aspects of IT security in e-/mbusiness are a major issue for the industry. Objectives and Agenda This workshop will address the essential questions of the economic aspects of IT security in e-/mbusiness. It will cover the state-of-the-art of security aspects in enterprises, organizations and providers. Typical and generic business processes, applications, and IT infrastructures will be identified and analyzed with respect to security issues both from the customer s and provider s point of view. Furthermore, e- commerce and e-business applications and scenarios will be analyzed with respect to security. In working groups, the students will discuss and elaborate various aspects of IT security (mechanisms and infrastructures). The significance of IT security for enterprises will be emphasized for a holistic treatment alongside business processes, services, networks, computers, and for the user himself. The students will compare different approaches for enterprise security, the respective security components and standards for IT security management and the implying costs. Thus, security will be discussed with respect to costbenefit evaluation of investments in security infrastructures (ROI (Return on Invest), Total Cost of Risk, and ROSI (Return on Security Investment).
