3 HOW TO REACH THE T.E.I OF PATRAS

4 TEI of Patras, Greece It is a component of the Hellenic Higher Education within the European Higher Education and the European Research Area, (ERA). It runs professionally oriented 4 years Curricula and MSc cources; which satisfy the Bologna criteria, requirements and pre-requisites

5 THE T.E.I. OF PATRAS IN SHORT The T.E.I of Patras is a Higher Education Institute like the University of Patras. Both are public Institutions, autonomous and self governed by their Academic & Administration Bodies. These imply that both University and the Technological Educational Institute of Patras are independent to each other; however they collaborate in many fields. The T.E.I. of Patras is oriented to Applied Sciences and Technology, while the University is mostly dedicated to Academic studies at theoretical basic research

6 Research activities and RTD projects make part of the inseparable nature of the TEI of Patras. That brings it alongside with the University sextor TEI of Patras is eligible to plan and execute research projects, while running MSc courses independently. A continuous improvement policy is established as the TEI of Patras was a pioneer in the European Pilot project for the Quality Evaluation of the European Universities

7 It may offer any courses even in a foreign language for any target group; e.g. a B.Eng and a M.Sc course on Renewable Energy Systems in EN; see The TEI of Patras may sign MoU with Universities or Research Centers of another country for joint Courses or Double Degrees and other joint initiatives in Education and Research

8 Founded in 1983 as Institution of Higher Education runs 17 departments and awards 24 Degrees in disciplines like: Civil engineering, Building Restoration Mechanical engineering, Energy & Environment Electrical engineering, Computer software & hardaware, Telecom engineering, Fisheries, Veterinary, Greehhosouse technology, Crop growth, Mass media technology, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Business and Administration, Accounting, Tourism, Museology etc

9 Conclusively, it delivers MSc courses in EN either independently or jointly, Sponsored by ERASMUS Mundus or the Mediterranean Office of Youth, or bilaterally As it concerns the PhD award, under the today circumstances the TEIs may not award such a Degree; they may collaborate with a University for this purpose, while the staff may become members of the PhD evaluation Committee. Under this policy the TEI of Patras collaborates with Brunel University in London for PhD in Renewable Energy Technologies.

10 TARGETS AND MISSION The Role: to collaborate with other H.E.I. in Greece and the rest of Europe and with the social partners to contribute to regional and national development to human resources development. The strategic Target is to provide services such as High Quality Education, Life Long Learning opportunities and take initiatives in R.T.D. projects, to meet requirements and expectations of its internal and external customers, and become a well- known and recognised Institution for Higher Education, Life long Learning programmes and Innovations.

Aachen, Germany offers : M.Sc. Course on RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS; with specialization in: 1. PV Systems, Wind Energy, Solar Thermal Engineering 2. Zero Energy Buildings, Passive Solar Buildings, Bioclimatic Buildings Director of MSc Studies, Prof S. Kaplanis: This programme is hosted by the R.E.S. Laboratory, and is held in English.

16 ERASMUS & LLP The T.E.I of Patras was one of the pioneers of the European Community Programs. Since 1988 coordinated several Inter-University Cooperation Programmes through the ERASMUS and the SOCRATES Programmes, and participated in many others. Via these collaborations a large number of student and staff exchanges are implemented on bilateral basis with other European Universities The Erasmus policy at T.E.I. has also concentrated on Curriculum Development and joint Intensive Programmes of 2-3 weeks duration.

17 International Summer Schools Summer School, 2013 PV systems engineering and the other R.E.S. The R.E.S. Laboratory of the T.E.I. of Patras, along with other European partner Universities, with the support of the Operational Programme for Education and Lifelong Learning (Greece), organizes a series of events related to the Theory & Practice of R.E.S. These events are sponsored by the E.S.F. of the E.U. and are organized under the frame of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit of the T.E.I. of Patras (website:

19 ATHENA Summer School ATHENA summer school The T.E.I. of Patras organizes since 2010 the Athena Summer School which is focused on the areas of "Wireless Technologies & Applications". The teaching lectures are organized in two courses: 1. The general course is going to include the technologies of GSM, GPRS, WCDA/UMTS and LTE. This course will present to the attendees the fundamental issues of both operation, and specifications related to the networks of GSM/GPRS/UMTS/LTE. 2. The specialized course is focused on applications and specific usages in the areas of mobile telephony including advanced topics such as Networks Design, Applications of All Manners, Networks Security & Energy.

20 from now on Expand and Internationalize New projects are sought with reliable partners to transfer and develop know-how To take initiatives for pilot projects like the ones in LEAD ERA, nano-coatings in Energy Intelligent Buildings, Renewable energies in Agriculture and nano-material for self-cleaning or Joint projects based on MoU which deliver and add value. This is the Challenge for us today within this project
