1 CHWorks ccount Verification Overview CHWorks ccount Verification is a fast, easy, and accurate way to verify bank accounts in real time, providing various levels of information from multiple sources. Now you can make an informed decision when accepting a check or CH as a payment option. The service is available as an independent program or an integrated service via our CHWorks SOP PI. Three levels of verification (, B and C) are used to automatically validate the account. Two levels of processing ( and ) are used to check the integrity and availability of the verification levels. Verification of the account is first attempted through Level, the most accurate validation level. Level is a real-time amount verification process indicating if there are sufficient funds in the account to cover the entered transaction amount. Level is available from a limited, but ever-growing number of participating banks. If the customer account does not belong to any of the Level participating banks, account verification will then be automatically validated against a wider network of participating banks using Level B account verification. Level B checks if the account is open and currently in good It does not check for availability of funds. Level B has more participating banks than Level. If the customer account does not belong to any of the Level B participating banks, the account is automatically validated using Level C historical verification. Level C is based on the largest experiential positive and negative database reports from the more than 158 million bank accounts that cover more than 70% of the entire US Banking system. Level C responses will be based on positive and negative historical reports about the customer accounts.. CHWorks Level, Real-time mount Verification The account and transaction amount will be validated using live information from an ever-growing network of participating banks. t this level, validation will respond with 72 code if the account has sufficient funds to cover the amount to be debited at the time of the verification request. The verification system will respond with code R01 for non sufficient funds situations (the account does not have enough funds to cover the transaction amount or if the account has a current negative balance). Table 1 details these and other codes specifying both customer account status and approval/decline recommendations. If the account number does not belong to the network of participating banks in the real-time amount verification, the account is evaluated using Level B ccount Verification. CHWorks Level B, ccount Verification Level B is automatically performed if the customer s account does not belong to Level participating banks. Level B has more participating banks than Level. Most larger Tier I & II banks are participants, but some local banks and smaller credit unions may not be. t Level B, only the customer account status is evaluated, there will be no information about the funds availability at this level. The account status is determined by the participating banks to see if the account is valid and in good standing. The response code P7, will indicate if the account is open and in good standing. response code of V41 indicates that the account has a negative standing or status (Table 2). If the customer account does not belong to a Level B participating bank, the account will be automatically evaluated with Level C verification. CHWorks Level C, Historical Verification This level is automatically used when the customer s account does not belong to participating banks in Levels or B. t this level, the customer account is validated against a large national historical database of positive and negative account reports. If there are negative reports against the evaluated account number, the response will include the type of report (i.e., NSF) and whenever available, a phone number for inquiries. Level C connects to an online inquiry service querying a very large experiential database that includes information on 158 million accounts. The combined experiential database contains account information from more than 130 million positive accounts and account information from more than 28 million negative accounts. This system covers about 70% of all US banks. There are two definitive responses from Level C verification; X21 and X20. Level C will return X21 when the customer account
2 has good historical records and there are No Negative Reports in the large national experiential database. Conversely, X20 indicates a history of one or more previous bad transactions. Lastly, a final Level C code of X22 would indicate a new account number or the account has little or no previous history. Care should be taken when interpreting Level C results. Sometimes a customer account in the database may have negative records but has recently good funding It depends upon your judgment on how you personally evaluate your customers on other criteria, to accept the transaction or not. Level C response codes are listed in Table 3. CHWorks Levels and, System and Miscellaneous Validation These levels are used to determine data and system integrity of Levels, B and C. It checks the realtime availability of various servers of participating banks and the online experiential database. It also checks the status of the verification services signed up with CHWorks, LLC. Tables 4 and 5 list the common response codes of these validation levels. Level will generally carry no charges for the responses.
