14 ABOUT THE POLISH AMERICAN ASSOCIATION Now celebrating our 92nd year as a human services agency, the Polish American Association (PAA) has been a unique resource for Chicago metropolitan area immigrants, Polish speaking residents, and those in need. We offer a comprehensive range of services, providing a holistic approach to help individuals achieve their full potential in all aspects of their lives. Since 1922, our bilingual and culturally sensitive programs have helped four generations of immigrants successfully transition to life in the United States by linking them to vital resources, services, and information. PROGRAMS & SERVICES: In 4 program areas and through 28 services, PAA has provided our clients with the resources for changing lives: Education & Employment Services: These include: English as a Second Language and citizenship classes; vocational training for Certified Nursing Assistants and Physical Rehabilitation Aides; office skills training; computer literacy; career counseling and job placement services; employment resource center; and computer labs. Social Services: These include: Crisis intervention; individual and family counseling; counseling and advocacy for victims of domestic violence; women s counseling services; partner abuse intervention program; substance abuse treatment; substance abuse counseling and prevention education for youth; homemakers program for seniors; food pantry; clothing closet; and emergency energy assistance. Immigrant Services: These include: Assistance with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services application process; document translation; citizenship workshops; voter registration; and housing resource center. Information & Outreach: These include: Keeping the Polish community informed of programs and services as well as the issues that affect their lives through informational workshops, presentation in the Polish media (radio and TV), and newspaper articles The Polish American Association and many of its staff have received local, state, federal, and international recognition for their commitment to and effectiveness in meeting the most critical needs of the Polish community.
15 MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Polish American Association, a human services agency, is to serve the diverse needs of the Polish community in the Chicago metro area by providing resources for changing lives, with emphasis on assisting immigrants. CORE VALUES We believe that: Each client of the PAA is a unique individual with different concerns and abilities and shall be treated with dignity. The PAA programs and services assist in the empowerment of people as individuals so that they may reach their full potential in all aspects of their lives. The PAA programs and services are most effective when a holistic approach is taken to individual needs. The PAA makes every effort to respond to the unmet and well researched needs within the Polish community by providing programs and services not available elsewhere. The PAA advocates on behalf of those within the Polish community who may not be able to speak for themselves.
