2 2 June, 2015 Jeffrey Herr (UAE mobile number) (Utah, USA, mobile number) Concerning the Available Position of Interim Superintendent of the Windham School District To Whom It May Concern, This letter is to express my interest in applying for the position of Superintendent of the Windham School District. I bring a highly desirable combination of experience and expertise to the position of Superintendent that I think would be valuable to the school district. In a very long and successful career, I have developed the skills need to lead a school district in the 21 st Century and have built a reputation of creativity, entrepreneurship and academic excellence. I have been an educator for over twenty-two years including internationally in the Czech Republic (Fulbright Scholar, Brno, Moravia 2006) and my current position in Dubai. Since June of 2008, I have been employed in senior management with K12, Inc., the largest provider worldwide of virtual education for students in grades K-12 as well as the leader in blended and hybrid school environments. I have worked in Dubai, UAE since September 2011 as K12 s Senior Director for the GCC Region which includes Africa as well. This includes managing our fulltime, fully accredited virtual private international school, ICademy-Dubai (United Arab Emirates), as well as developing and working with blended/hybrid programs such as: Dubai Women s College High School (DWCHS), a partnership with Dubai Women s College; A blended learning program for struggling students in Doha, Qatar on the campus of the International School of London-Qatar. Our K12, Inc. managed school in Berne, Switzerland, the International School of Berne, with their blended learning high school program, IS Berne On-line. My experience with K12, Inc has allowed me to manage schools and programs in the most current and technologically advanced learning environment in the world. This expertise allows me to lead by example and at a skill level that would serve as a resource for the entire organization. Most importantly, through innovative thinking, hard work and creativity, we have seen impressive growth is enrollment in all areas. I have been involved with charter schools in Utah (USA), at least in part, since 1999 and have had the opportunity to open new and innovative charter schools. With a background in both education and business, I bring an unusually high degree of creativity to any position I have held and have developed a reputation as an entrepreneur leader. During my tenure with the Salt Lake City School District, I was successfully managed the following: Title One schools and programs;
3 As Special Education Supervisor, the resources of the special education programs at the 39 schools in the Salt Lake City District; At-risk programs on all levels; Additionally, during my time at SLCSD, I helped develop the model for the district s afterschool program through the 21 st Century grant, as well as teacher mentoring programs and student support programs. I have spent my career designing, implementing and managing innovative programs that have brought innovation and flexibility to traditional education. I have proven that a free market, competitive approach to education actually works to give students and parents a choice and these principles can be applied to education. As my CV demonstrates, many of these programs were the first of their kind and have led other organizations to try these or similar programs. Most importantly, I have coupled these visionary projects with sound financial, operational and organizational practices. I have earned a reputation as a capable executive with a talent for problem solving and program development. This is primarily why my current organization has sent me to Dubai. My wife and I are interested in new professional opportunities and believe that the Windham School District would be a wonderful opportunity. I look forward to meeting with you and discussing how I can help strengthen your organization and take it to the next level. Best Regards, Jeffrey Herr
