2 An Educa on that Fits Your Needs and Your Schedule The Business Administra on Cer ficate (BAC) Program is an eight course business management program that allows students to expand their understanding of business environment, marke ng, human resources management, finance, and other concepts commonly encountered in modern business communi es. Offered through convenient night classes, this part- me program allows the flexibility you require, while delivering the business tools you need to set yourself apart. Planning Your Program The BAC offers flexible program planning to fit your schedule. Fall (Term 1) and winter (Term 2) classes are offered once per week on either Monday or Wednesday evenings. Spring session classes are two evenings per week and take place either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. It is important to note that some classes are only offered in one term per academic year. The BAC was designed to be taken over four years, comple ng one class per term. However, it is possible to accelerate your program by taking two classes per term (one on Monday evening and the second on Wednesday evening), as well as spring courses. At an accelerated pace, the BAC can be completed in as li le as two years. 5 BAC Program Courses Introduc on to Business This course focuses on integrated organiza onal decision making. Students will examine case studies providing an integrated analysis across the six business disciplines over the four stages of an organiza onal life-cycle. Business Communica ons This course introduces students to the theory and prac ce of effec ve business communica on for specific audiences and purposes in a changing business environment. Human Resource Management This course introduces students to various concepts and tools that will assist in understanding behaviour and enhancing effec veness in organiza ons at individual, group and organiza on-wide levels. Financial Informa on for Decision Making This course examines the use of financial informa on for decision making. Topics include: Management of working capital, financial decisions involving intermediate and long-term financing, and capital budge ng. Managerial Marke ng This course will examine the development of marke ng strategy, product policy, distribu on channels, management of personal selling, promo on policy, pricing policy, and market planning. Business Decision Making This course introduces students to strategic management frameworks for analysis that will assist them in understanding the impact that external policies have upon organiza onal decision making. Business Strategy (Capstone) This course will focus on case histories in policy formula on designed to expose the student to a wide range of business problems involving the examina on of a company s opportuni es, competencies, aspira ons, and responsibili es. *Free elec ve - choose from: Business Law This course provides students with an understanding of the nature of the legal process; the role of the courts and various administra ve tribunals in the administra on of jus ce; and the basic rights and obliga ons of individuals and firms in contract and tort. The law rela ng to wills, real and personal property, corpora ons and partnerships is also discussed. Organiza onal Behaviour This course includes core topics in: Organiza onal structure, job design, mo va on, understanding individual behaviour, working in groups, leadership, power, and organiza onal change. Theory is augmented with tools and models for working effec vely with and through others. *Or one other University elec ve at the discre on of the Program Director.

6 Tuition, Fees, and Textbooks Tui on and Student Fees Program tui on fees are assessed by the University of Saskatchewan in May of each year. Tui on fees are charged on a per-course basis each term. Cer ficate students are responsible for ensuring mely payment of tui on and fees each semester in which they are registered for classes. All cer ficate students must pay student fees. These fees are subject to review and revision at any me, and, they are non-refundable a er the add/drop deadline for a given term. For current tui on and fee rates, please visit Textbooks Textbook costs can vary depending on the requirements of each course. Generally students should expect to budget between $100 and $200 per class for texts and materials.

The material was relevant, the teaching superb, and the quality of the participation by the students outstanding. 9 Admission Criteria Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. A grade 12 standing (or equivalent) is required for admission. Applicants who do not meet these requirements may apply for condi onal admission into the program on the basis of prior business experience. For those who may want to eventually pursue an Edwards undergraduate degree, the majority of BAC courses are fully transferable to the Edwards B.Comm. degree program. In such cases, students are responsible to ensure that they meet undergraduate admission requirements, and must undergo the undergraduate degree program applica on process. Interna onal students Our cer ficate programs are currently offered in a part- me format only, there is no full- me op on. Because of this, our program does not meet the requirements for an interna onal student visa, and therefore is not a suitable op on for interna onal students. Distance students There are currently no distance/correspondence op ons for BAC classes. The Edwards School of Business is working to offering BAC classes via a distance op on in the future. The BAC program has been a wonderful journey for me. What I ve learned has been relevant to my work, and has sparked a new interest in business, as well as a more in depth awareness of local and global business issues. 10 Applica on Deadlines BAC applicants may choose to start the program in either September (Term 1) or January (Term 2). The applica on deadlines are as follows: Fall: September start - August 15 Winter: January start - December 15 THE BAC PROGRAM IS AN EXCELLENT PROGRAM FOR ANY PERSON WHO WANTS TO START A BUSINESS, OR MOVE FORWARD IN HIS/HER CAREER. 11 How to Apply To apply for the BAC program, please fill out the applica on form and submit it via , mail or fax. To complete the applica on, you will need: Your personal informa on, including SIN number Your educa onal history A cheque, Visa, or MasterCard for payment of $75 applica on fee. The applica on fee pays for the evalua on of your applica on, and is non-refundable. Your applica on will not be processed un l the fee has been paid. If you have previously taken any courses with the University of Saskatchewan, you are exempt from paying the application fee.
