Assessments methods include: PRAXIS 054/554 Special Educa on Core Knowledge and Applica ons, Praxis II 5001 Elementary Educa on Content Knowledge, Praxis II 054/554 Special Educa on: Core Knowledge and Applica ons, and Praxis II 0022/5022 Early Childhood: Content Knowledge. 2. 6 6 of 9 1/9/2015 1:58 PM Beginning Summer 201, special educa on faculty embarked on a review of its current cer fica on programs Early Childhood Special Educa on and Collabora ve Teacher, K 6 cer fica on and 6 12 cer fica on. We examined our current courses in rela on to state (Alabama State Department of Educa on, ALSDE) and na onal (Na onal Council on the Accredita on of Teacher Educa on, NCATE; Specialized Program Assessment, SPA, to our na onal recogni on organiza on, Council for Excep onal Children, CEC) standards. As well, we reviewed program evalua on data from a variety of sources including the PRAXIS assessments, AU EDUCATE/Alabama, the Special Educa on Graduate Survey, Coopera ng Teacher Survey, Advisory Commi ees, and a strategic planning survey. In fall 201, we submi ed a SPA to our na onal recogni on organiza on, CEC, for our undergraduate Collabora ve Teacher program. The report process for the SPA and the strategic planning process based on evalua on data and SPA comple on helped us to iden fy the strengths of all of our programs as well as the areas in which we could improve. Jus fica on for request: Major changes in the redesign of our program include: renaming courses to be er reflect content and professional language, changing the sequence in which students take courses so we can spiral the curriculum to map key content to mul ple courses throughout students program, adding stand alone assessment courses, adding more content on assis ve technology, and tying prac ca to specific courses. Addi onally, we are consolida ng the Early Childhood Special Educa on cer fica on program and the Collabora ve Teacher, K 6 cer fica on program. Numerous graduates of our program and school administrators have indicated that having only an Early Childhood Special Educa on cer fica on limits the hiring of our graduates, because they cannot teach above rd grade. In sum, our revised program will provide special educa on professionals with the training they need to deliver evidence based prac ces to students with disabili es from Birth 6 th grade, ensuring they have the knowledge, skills, and disposi ons necessary to improve the learning of students with disabili es. * Denotes course revision for course tle under review **Denotes new course, which is included in this curriculum revision *Added RSED 100: Assessment: Eligibility for Special Educa on; with addi on of Collabora ve Teacher K 6 cer fica on students need assessment course focused on elementary aged students; name change reflects content of course more accurately
