2 Call for Conference Abstracts Abstracts for Concurrent Conference Papers are due by Monday, 23rd March, 2015 Authors will be advised of the outcome of their submission by Monday, 20th April, 2015 Authors return their acceptance of invitation to present form Friday, 1st May, 2015 Final Refereed Papers for Peer Review are due by Monday, 6th July, 2015 Final Non Refereed Papers for Program Committee Review are due by Monday, 27th July, 2015 Final PowerPoint Presentations are due by Tuesday, 6th October, 2015 Introduction Effective stormwater management requires a holistic approach across catchments and the development cycle. For that reason, Stormwater NSW, the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) Australasia and Engineers Australia (EA) have come together for a joint Conference in 2015 to recognise the common values and purpose they share in effective stormwater and waterway management. The Conference Organising Committee would like to invite all water professionals to join us in Sydney for the 9th International Water Sensitive Urban Design Conference and the 3rd International Erosion Control Association National Conference to be held in Sydney from the 19th 23rd October, This Conference will bring together practitioners, academics and students in a common forum to engage, collaborate, discuss and dive headfirst into water management. The Conference will explore more effective ways of managing and integrating stormwater, from the concept and design, through to construction and into operation, having a strong focus on the following questions: What can we do better? Where have we succeeded? Where should we focus our efforts? What should we spend money on to improve development and environmental outcomes? Where are the knowledge gaps? This Conference effectively unites three organisations that are all in the business of managing stormwater quality and quantity at various stages of development. Importantly, it adds the construction-phase into the conversation on designing and managing Water Sensitive Urban Design. With better integration of stormwater management at ALL stages, we will hopefully see an end to operational water quality advances being effectively undone by excess pollution during the construction stage. The Conference will include keynote and plenary presentations, open discussion forums, expert panel sessions, technical papers, a co-located trade exhibition and a comprehensive social program. The Conference will comprise of: One day of optional Pre Conference Workshops on Monday, 19th October Three days of Conference Keynote, Plenary and Concurrent Sessions from Tuesday, 20th October to Thursday, 22nd October One day of optional Technical and Site Tours on Friday, 23rd October With three organisations coming together for this Conference, it is sure to be a thought-provoking event that will challenge delegates thinking and knowledge while expanding their views on holistic stormwater management. We look forward to seeing you in Sydney in October 2015!

3 Invitation to Submit a Conference Abstract The Conference Organising Committee would like to invite you or your colleagues to submit an abstract to present at the 9th International Water Sensitive Urban Design Conference and the 3rd International Erosion Control Association National Conference. When submitting an abstract, presenters are encouraged to strongly consider the Conference theme H 2 Olistic Integration: Concept, Design, Construction and Operation. Suggested topics for submissions include, but are not limited to: Integrated Water Cycle Management Water cycle management during construction and onto operation Operation and maintenance costs, success stories, challenges, retro-fits Water quantity and quality management during construction and onto operation Flood management and stream flow managing, designing and recovering waterways Modelling techniques, advances, challenges and integration Effective governance and regulation at all levels of government Integrating water management into urban and rural planning and design Community expectations and influences Advances and technologies for effective water quality management Risk management throughout the project cycle Targeting erosion and sediment control during construction for maximum cost-benefit and to allow integration into the operation project phase Please note: All Contributors are required to indicate in which stream they wish their contribution to be considered. We are particularly seeking submissions that include innovative research and encourage debate and will allow participants to explore new ideas and will engage participants in thought provoking and robust discussions. Types of Submissions The Conference Committee is seeking abstracts for the conduct of: Concurrent Paper Sessions Refereed Concurrent Paper Sessions Non Refereed Extended Abstract only and PowerPoint Concurrent papers will be offered as 20 minute sessions for oral presentation. Question time will be additional to presentation time. Upon acceptance of an abstract into the Conference program, authors will have the option to submit a refereed (peer reviewed) paper or non peer reviewed paper for the Conference. Refereed papers describe new techniques, tools, theories or inventions, or present case histories that extend our understanding of stormwater and urban water management. Papers undergoing peer review must present new ideas, backed by scientifically robust, sound research, repeatable methodology and will be reviewed by acknowledged experts in the field of stormwater and waterway management, water quality and erosion and sediment control. Case Studies are allowed to be submitted as refereed papers, as long as they are a section or part of a scientific research project. Authors typically request for their paper to be refereed when they are seeking publication in an industry journal. Nonetheless, a benefit of choosing the peer review stream is to receive constructive evaluation from leaders in the field. Specialist feedback improves the quality of papers, and therefore the quality of the Conference. The referees will evaluate the paper, noting weaknesses or problems along with suggestions for improvement. Referees evaluations usually include an explicit recommendation of what to do with the paper from options provided by the journal or funding agency. Most recommendations are along the lines of the following: to unconditionally accept the manuscript or proposal, to accept it in the event that its authors improve it in certain ways, to reject it, but encourage revision and invite resubmission, to reject it outright.

4 Where modifications are required, the paper will be returned to the Author for update based on the recommendation of the reviewer. The revised paper is then returned to the reviewer for final approval before it will be accepted for presentation and publication. Non refereed papers are less formal than refereed papers and are reviewed by the Conference Organising Committee for inclusion in the program, but are not subject to the peer-review process for refereed papers. The Conference Organising Committee has the right to reject the paper after revision, if the revisions are not updated, or if the paper is deemed problematic. Extended Abstract and PowerPoint For those presenters who are not in a position to prepare a paper to accompany their presentations, they can submit an extended abstract and PowerPoint to accompany their oral presentation. Extended abstracts and PowerPoints must be reviewed by the committee prior to the Conference. At the conclusion of the Conference, both the extended abstract and PowerPoint will be included on the Conference website. Abstract Submission Guidelines The following guidelines apply for the submission of all abstracts: All abstracts are to be submitted online via the Conference Website at Submissions relating to the suggested topics for the Conference will be considered. Abstracts should provide a description of your Conference Presentation with a maximum of 300 words. Submissions must include a biography of the presenter of up to 150 words. Submissions not including a biography of the presenter will not be considered. Abstracts for concurrent papers should be submitted by no later than Monday, 23rd March, Contributors will be provided with advice of acceptance or rejection of their submission. The Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any submissions and extend or shorten presentation duration. The timelines for this advice are included on page 1 of this document. Presenters will be advised of the outcome of their submission by no later than Monday 20th April After initial acceptance of abstracts, the Conference Program Committee advise that presentations, be they peer reviewed papers, non peer reviewed papers or extended abstracts, be subject to a final review to ensure consistency with approved abstract and to ensure a balanced presentation of ideas and learning. Final Paper Preparation Guidelines and Restrictions Guidelines for Conference Abstracts REFEREED Refereed Papers are abstracts distributed to a scientific panel for review and evaluation. The review process is typically carried out over a number of weeks and aims at maintaining or enhancing a certain quality of work. As the review process involves a number of unbiased opinions relating to a certain abstract, Refereed Papers are therefore typically viewed as more credible. These guidelines relate only to accepted abstracts where the author has requested that the paper be refereed by members of the Scientific Committee Submissions must be in English, a minimum of 11 point Times New Roman font. Final papers are not to be more than 8 pages in length. Manuscripts should conform to publication style listed later in this document. A manuscript template is provided in Appendix 1. When a paper has been accepted, author(s) will be required to ensure that it conforms to publication style and to supply an electronic version. Authors requesting refereed status shall state clearly at the top of the manuscript, To be Refereed. Only papers stating this request will be circulated to the Scientific Committee. An independent scientific committee appointed by the Conference committee will refer all designated papers for peer review in accordance with the Higher Education Research Data Collection Specifications for the Collection of 2010 Data (Commonwealth Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, 2010). Peer review will be conducted strictly in accordance with these specifications.

5 Evidence of review will be provided to the author in pro forma showing anonymous comments of the expert reviewer and the scientific committee s determination. This will be in the form of a notification of acceptance (possibly subject to amendment). Authors should keep the pro forma as evidence of satisfactory peer review in accordance with the Specifications. All refereed papers will be identified as such and published in full on the Conference website. Refereed papers of a high standard will be identified for nomination in the Australian Journal of Water Resources. Completed papers to be refereed MUST be submitted to the Scientific Committee through GEMS Event Management Monday, 6th July, Failure to do so will cause the presentation to be removed from the program and may preclude the presenter from presenting at future Stormwater NSW, IECA or Engineer Australia Conferences. Please note that the Conference Organisers and/or Committee will communicate only with the first author of a paper. In the case of co-authored papers it will be the responsibility of the first author to pass on to the coauthor(s) communications from the editors. All concurrent paper presenters are required to register for the Conference. Guidelines for Conference Abstracts NON REFEREED PAPERS These guidelines relate only to accepted abstracts where the author has NOT requested that the paper be refereed by members of the Scientific Committee Non refereed papers that are not being submitted to the Scientific Committee are still required for review by the Conference Program Committee in order to ensure that the paper is representative of the accepted abstract. Submissions must be in English. Final papers are not to be more than 8 pages in length. Manuscripts should conform to publication style listed below. When a paper has been accepted, author(s) will be required to ensure that it conforms to publication style, and to supply an electronic version. It is a requirement of participation that all Conference paper presenters must prepare a paper to be included in the Conference proceedings. Completed Non Refereed Papers MUST be submitted to the Conference Program Committee by Monday, 27th July, Failure to do so will cause the presentation to be removed from the program and may preclude the presenter from presenting at future Stormwater NSW, IECA or Engineers Australia Conferences. Please note that the Conference Organisers and/or Committee will communicate only with the first author of a paper. In the case of co-authored papers it will be the responsibility of the first author to pass on to the coauthor(s) communications from the editors. All concurrent paper presenters are required to register for the Conference. Plenary presenters receive complimentary registration on the day of their presentation only and are required to register for any other days they wish to attend. Publication Style The Oxford English Dictionary is the standard for spelling. Documents are to be prepared in Microsoft Word. No pdf documents will be accepted. Any graphics included in the document are to separately attached to the final document as jpeg files. No headers and footers are to be used. Substantial quotations should be indented without quotation marks. Other quotations should be enclosed by single quotation marks. Double quotation marks should be used only as innermost quotation marks within single quotation marks, or where necessary to ensure fidelity to another s work. Published works referred to in the text should be in parentheses containing author, date (and page number(s) if necessary). Books and journal articles should be listed as follows: Macpherson, C.B.
