1 Practice what you re going to say! Fundraising Tips Be ready to talk about Girls for the Cure and the impact this event makes in the community. Remember to smile and be polite by saying please and thank you and remaining friendly even with those who might not want to support you. Go door-to-door Ask your neighbors and community to support you. There s safety in numbers, so when going door-to-door to gather support, consider going with a friend from school or asking a parent to come along! Remember to take your pledge form and a couple of extra pens with you. (Cancer prevention tip: get active talking a walk is a great way to get exercise and keep fit.) Not sure what Girls for the Cure is all about? Check out Fun Facts about Girls for the Cure on pages 4 & 5. Wear your School Uniform Not sure what to say? How to ask for support? Check out page 3 for some ideas! When going door-to-door, by wearing your school uniform, you re representing your school and showing your neighbors that this is a school-supported event. Help! No one is Ever Home Before you go, consider downloading a few donation forms (at If no one is home, consider leaving a donation form in the mail box with a little note saying sorry to have missed you, hope you ll support me in my walk to find a cure! Always sign your name so they know whose asking for support. Don t go During Dinner - Go Outside of Meal Times Family time is sacred and harder and harder to come by these days. So consider going door-to-door or making phone calls after or before dinner or even right after school. On weekends, many people are rushing around doing groceries, mowing the lawn, etc so consider going late afternoon or just before dinner. Ask your Friends and Family to Support You. Our parents are our biggest fans! Don t forget to let your grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins know about your efforts to make a difference and take action against women-related cancers.

2 Help! My family Lives far Away! Never under estimate the power of asking someone face-to-face to support you, but that s not always possible. For loved ones who live far away, consider sending them an and ask them to donate online at Community Outreach Activities Consider holding a bakesale, car wash, bottle drive or other activity to get the word out about your efforts in the fight against female-related cancers. Quick Tips As They Appear on the Pledge Envelopes Distributed by the School Faculty When going door-to-door to fundraise wear your school uniform and if possible, go with a friend or a parent; Practice what you re going to say write out your script, clearly identify yourself, your school and why you re asking for money; Never go door-to-door during dinner or too early on Saturday or Sunday morning; Ask your family to support you they re often your biggest supporters; Consider asking your parents to approach their colleagues to support you as well; Remain polite and friendly, even if the person you re asking to support you is not interested; Consider holding a community car wash, bake sale, bottle drive or other fundraising activity. 4 Fun Facts How many years has Girls been around for? 15 years and GFC has actually walked close to a quarter of a million kilometres that s over 227,700,00.00 STEPS. Which Schools participating Girls for the Cure? 6 independent all-girl schools in Montreal ECS, Queen of Angels, Sacred Heart, The Study, Trafalgar and Villa Maria In fact, every year over 2,300 girls participate. All of the teachers and a lot of the parents volunteer and walk too! When is the walk taking place? Thursday, September 23, 2010 How many students participate ever year? Over 2,300!! Where do you walk? Each student walks 5k through the streets of Montreal, up to Mount-Royal GFC will all be wearing HOT PINK t-shirts this year, so be sure to keep an eye out for them! Why do you do this? To make a DIFFERENCE in our communities to the women suffering from cancer and raise money for female-related cancer treatments and services To raise AWARNESS that if we re strong and work together no matter how young or old you are - get involved in your community and take action.
