01 SERVICE CATALOGUE: FOCUS ON THE SERVICES DESIGNED BY TELECOM ITALIA AND CISCO
In the aftermath of the International Participants Meeting held in Milan (10-12 October 2012) the Organizer issued a Catalogue of Technological. Following the last meeting in Bergamo (2-3 May 2013) a digital version of the same catalogue was released through the official Participants Digital Management System (PDMS). In this document we shall focus on the range of services jointly designed by Telecom Italia, Cisco, Samsung and Eutelsat to meet the Participants TLC and IT requirements. Network Internet & Cloud Fixed Voice Wi-FI Mobile Devices & Tailored Cloud Virtual Desktop Multimedia Messaging & Collaboration Telepresence E-Health BASIC ADVANCED TOP BASIC SERVICES ADVANCED / TOP SERVICES Figure 1 - Service catalogue: PDMS view illustrating the range of services designed by Telecom italia and Cisco. The figure above presents the services in a way Participants are accustomed to, following the standard of the official guide for the EXPO Milano 2015 ( Participants Guide: Technology for Self-Built Exhibition Spaces - April 2013) and providing graphical support for the services explained in the present document. The following paragraph will offer a functional description of the services through a systemic overview: the goal is to demonstrate how the different services could be combined to build and support an advanced pavilion while meeting all the typical Telecommunications & IT technical requirements. 6
02 LOGICAL ARCHITECTURE: A SYSTEMIC OVERVIEW The service catalogue was published on the Participants Digital Management System in occasion of the International Meeting held in Bergamo on 2-3 May 2013, coinciding with the release of the Official Participants Guide ( Technology for Self-Built Exhibition Spaces ). The main objective of this document is to illustrate the underlying design philosophy for the package built jointly by Telecom Italia with the other organizer s Global Partners. The following figure provides a systemic overview of the overall offer, with emphasis on the relations among the building modules. Each module will be described focusing on its functional features and corresponding relations.

The enabled connectivity are: Access to the EXPO campus network, to let countries access the IT common services delivered by the organizer Broadband Internet granting access to the Big Internet Access to the national and international wide area network infrastructure - countries can link one or more of their national websites to their pavilion in the Milan EXPO. These links are designed to provide a typical Virtual Private Network solution. In the event clients need to access IT resources in their domestic institutional websites (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of Economy, of Agriculture and/or local Main Fair), a three-part solution is available: Local Loop in the home country between International POP and home-country EXPO site Backbone transport from Telecom Italia s POP in participant s country (or other, more accessible country if available) to Telecom Italia s POP in Milan Link between Milan International POP and EXPO site (i.e. aggregation link) The following figure illustrates the typical fixed Network solution focusing on the three main components. 8

Local Loop from the participant s premises in the home country to the backbone transport of Telecom Italia can be added. Such an arrangement can virtually provide a turnkey service with end-to-end connectivity, fully managed and with a single point of contact. Where available, we are able to provide satellite solutions as well. The possibility of end-to-end monitoring and management is a key asset: having developed a number of partnerships with local and international network providers across the world, Telecom Italia Group is able to offer Local Loop via the participant s local partner. Any connectivity device or network termination equipment can be also provided as a one-stop shopping solution to complement the network infrastructure. The equipment can be provisioned, installed and configured at the participant s premises in the home country in order to be fully integrated with the equipment in the participants pavilion at EXPO Finally, each of the three components of the network connectivity service can be tailored (e.g. planning of proper link diversification in order to increase global robustness) to meet specific requirements and under preliminary feasibility studies. This means that by using the aforementioned International network infrastructure, participants could access IT resources in their own facilities, in addition to all the other possibilities listed in paragraph 2.2. The second fundamental network infrastructure in the EXPO site is a Mobile LTE Network - with a dedicated bandwidth up to 100Mbps per single user. At the same time, the on-site LTE infrastructure will natively take advantage of the overall Italian mobile network of Telecom Italia, ensuring seamless broadband connectivity. A leading-edge WIFI infrastructure with broadband access to local and/or 9
internet services will also be available on-site. Finally, participants will be able to use the ipass mobile app for smartphones, tablets and laptops connecting to the world s largest Wi-Fi network, with over 1,2 million hotspots in the world. The ipass Wi-Fi network includes the leading hotels, airports, restaurants and business venues with more than 3,000 hotspots available in Italy to enhance the EXPO s WIFI capabilities for participants wishing to extend their visit INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES: THE TELECOM ITALIA CLOUD SERVICES It is absolutely clear that the EXPO Milan 2015 will revolve around a pervasive use of leading-edge technologies. The goal is to help each country and support their interpretation of the general theme. This will result in a memorable experience for all visitors, contributing to the success of the event. The general trend in applications is biased toward massive use of multimedia effects, as proven by bandwidth consumption on the worldwide Big Internet Backbone; the vision and design at the heart of the EXPO Milan 2015, shared by all participating countries, will only amplify the phenomenon: multimedia content will be the foundation on which the various interpretations of the theme will be built. To take on this challenge, we have developed a cloud Infrastructure solution with the following features: 1. IT resources - CPU, RAM, storage - will be allocated to each participating country. This allocation pool takes into account the size of each pavilion in distributing resources 2. IT administrators of all countries will be able to remotely manage the allocated resources through a dedicated application console 3. The allocation pool is part of the overall Telecom Italia cloud infrastructure, with its 12 data centers distributed across the Italian peninsula. 2 of them are located near the EXPO site and are connected to each other, ensuring maximum reliability of the hosted pools 4. Data centers fully integrated with the network infrastructure owned by Telecom Italia: a unique control room will be able to monitor both IT and TLC components Configuring the allocated pool based on their own needs, participating countries can benefit from their local presence while maintaining total control over the infrastructure pool - a key advantage in a multimedia context where high performance is a critical factor in the success of each pavilion. We know that Information Technology demands high flexibility and customization; that s why we included a special module in our list of advanced services: Tailored Cloud Design. This is a profile with several professional services to support you and your pavilion with a design tailored to your IT solutions (see paragraph 2.8) VOIP PABX SERVICES AND MESSAGING & COLLABORATION A cutting-edge VoIP solution has been designed to facilitate inter/intra pavilion communication among countries and with EXPO staff members: the most advanced PaBX services and innovative phones will be made available to exhibitors in order to guarantee integrated and seamless communication. We warmly encourage all participants to select the TOP module called Messaging & Collaboration, as this will allow them to leverage the IT features enabled by a real VoIP solution. Every user will be reachable through different channels (e.g., video, fixed phone, mobile phone, audio conference, videoconference, messaging) based on the facility s availability, and in accordance to personal schedules and movement. The EXPO is a time-sensitive event with thousands of visitors and constant 10
pressure: staff members must be able to communicate quickly and easily. Another key benefit of the messaging and collaboration application is that it enables the integrated communication with digital signage systems and video communication devices (e.g. telepresence). Several innovative scenarios are possible: Virtual assistant with digital signage Participants who are keen on informing visitors about their country and pavilion would find digital signage and innovative terminals a very useful tool (see paragraph 2.7 on multimedia solutions). With messaging and collaboration, participants can easily set up a terminal as a video call device, enabling visitors to call their assistants and provide information Video communication with other video-rooms The messaging and collaboration client allows participants to connect seamlessly to any video device, including videoconference terminals Collaborative set-up Communicating with other countries and EXPO staff members is a crucial factor in building relationships and ensuring the success of each pavilion. Cross-country virtual meetings are the way to make decisions quickly and efficiently MOBILE SERVICES In our estimate, EXPO 2015 will be characterized by heavy use of Mobile services Internet services Mobile Devices & mean: A flexible, shared business plan - a common pool of voice minutes, text and data to be shared among employees - including: A given amount of minutes for domestic calls Extra airtime for mobile-to-mobile calls between employees Additional minutes for outgoing international calls Text and data packages Chance to request the latest mobile devices, including 3G/4G smartphones, tablets and mini tablets End-to-end device management including repair and replacement We have designed a variety of traffic packages to make sure participants have an array of available resources such as intercom calls, domestic calls, domestic SMS and domestic gigabytes of data traffic VIRTUAL DESKTOP AS A SERVICE Several applications will be in place to connect to EXPO services. At the same time, participants will need typical office software and access to their own specific applications. Reliability and best-in-class operations/maintenance are critical success factors in this context: more than visitors a day - with peaks of over visitors - need the most robust IT infrastructure available. Absolute control of the freedom awarded to the staff is similarly important. In this scenario, Virtual Desktop is the answer: thin terminals driven by server applications allow secure use of IT services while retaining control of the IT environment constraints (licensing, data 11
storage and installation). As a plus, they have the lowest energy consumption obtainable with current technology - indeed a key feature, considering the role of sustainability in the EXPO 2015 theme VIDEOCONFERENCE SERVICES AND TELEPRESENCE Video-communication solutions have been around for at least two decades. You wouldn t expect to see them listed as a top/innovative service. And yet, two disruptive trends emerged in recent years: 1. Video-communication as an integration service 2. Immersive video-communication Video-communication as an integration service means that the telecommunication service provider: Offers a service center to connect different video devices, i.e. a country is not limited to a single brand device when it comes to making video calls between headquarters. Provides technical means to federate different entities in such a way to allow them to video communicate with each other. Functionally, it means countries will be able to video-communicate seamlessly with each other, with the organizer and obviously with institutional offices back home. The second disruptive breakthrough was the perfection of immersive video-communication: based on specific coding algorithms paired with tailor-made architectural deployment, this allows users to have video interactions so natural and immersive that it effectively emulates a real face-to-face meeting MULTIMEDIA SERVICES Multimedia content will certainly be a paradigm of the communication practices within the EXPO Milan The main features of multimedia services are: 1. A comprehensive solution that enable countries to manage their media content and reproduce digital media not only within their pavilions but in other areas as well (airports, rail stations, subway and other key environments), thus ensuring the distribution of content beyond the digital media domain of the Expo 2. An all-in-one, optimized and ready-to-use solution 3. A superior service integration (please refer to paragraph 2.3) Practically, this kind of solution engages visitors and allows the participants to make the most of their pavilions, showcasing the uniqueness of each country TAILORED CLOUD With the previously mentioned basic package, any participant can manage a pool of IT resources in order to build their own IT infrastructure. Beyond that, we are always ready to help participants with our engineering support, designing the perfect solution that fits their every need. Available support profiles: Service Designer Specialist ICT Architect Service Designer Senior Participant Manager With four available profiles, participants can choose a module of their preference based on their requirements. 12
03 BUNDLING OPTIONS
3.1 - GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS From previous paragraphs, the rationale behind the service catalogue jointly designed by Telecom Italia and Cisco should be quite clear. We think that the basic package and its services offer a number of potential combinations to participants, which will now be explained. Please bear in mind that the bundles described below - Horsepower, Premium and Excellence - make up a set of services suitable for most typical needs; however, they are not meant as a rigid structure aimed at limiting customers. As mentioned in paragraph 4, we have a dedicated team to help participants to design, implement and deliver their dream pavilion. Ultimately, we are able to provide a true one-stop shopping service: should a participating country need to implement complex solutions involving systems and devices not located in the EXPO site, we provide ways to install, configure and seamlessly operate them HORSEPOWER PACKAGE The figure below shows the composition of the Horsepower Package. Network Internet & Cloud Fixed Voice Wi-FI Mobile Devices & Virtual Desktop Messaging & Collaboration Figure 4 - The composition of the horsepower package On top of the basic services included in the package, we suggest the following as possible additions: 1. Mobile Devices & 2. Virtual Desktop & PCs 3. Messaging & Collaboration Network Internet & Cloud Fixed Voice 14 top ion Wi-FI Mobile Devices & The basic idea is to supplement the basic infrastructural services with terminal devices harmoniously integrated with each other. Mobile Devices & grants the freedom to choose cutting-edge hardware from our catalogue, while Virtual Desktop offers a coherent fixed-terminal infrastructure, configured to Tailored Cloud access all services made available to participants countries for their everyday activity. Messaging & Collaboration will provide the glue that connects users, regardless of their device of choice (phones, mobile devices, thin terminals, laptops). The horsepower moniker is derived by the maximum efficiency of the package, allowing for the ideal integration among the tools in our suite. Multimedia loud ces ud
Network Internet & Cloud Fixed Voice Wi-FI Mobile Devices & Virtual Desktop Messaging & Collaboration PREMIUM PACKAGE The following figure illustrates the composition of the Premium Package. Network Internet & Cloud Fixed Voice Wi-FI Mobile Devices & Tailored Cloud Multimedia Figure 5 - The composition of the premium package On top of the basic services included in the package, we suggest the following as possible additions: 1. Mobile Devices & 2. Tailored Cloud 3. Multimedia Network Internet & Cloud Fixed Voice Wi-FI Mobile Devices & Tailored Cloud Virtual Desktop The goal is to enrich the basic infrastructural equipment with the potential for delivering special IT services that will make the experience memorable for the visitors by using multimedia content. Mobile Devices & introduces the possibility of having advanced devices equipped with specific mobile applications. Such applications can be used by staff members to introduce visitors to the pavilion and its design, and are integrated in the local content management system that each participant will have in place. With mobile apps and multimedia content, the EXPO 2015 experience becomes truly memorable. Multimedia Messaging & Collaboration Telepresence E-Health As a natural extension of this project, the pavilion will be designed to provide a huge amount of multimedia content, along with leading-edge devices to entertain visitors: Multimedia is the tool that will help participants to touch the visitors soul. In the above scenario, the participant will probably need to develop a suitable local IT infrastructure to meet their specific requirements. That is why the Premium package includes the Tailored Cloud module, a mix of professional services to help participants design the most effective IT solution. The design proposal will assess and quote the resources needed to implement the requested solution (software, hardware, licenses). Once the design is approved, it will be implemented in the cloud infrastructure of Telecom Italia. The Premium package conveniently allows the design of custom IT solutions to make sure each pavilion is tailor-made and it truly realizes its country s vision. 15
3.4 - EXCELLENCE PACKAGE The following figure shows the composition of the Excellence Package. Network Internet & Cloud Fixed Voice Wi-FI Mobile Devices & Tailored Cloud Virtual Desktop Multimedia Messaging & Collaboration Telepresence E-Health Network Internet & Cloud Fixed Voice Wi-FI Mobile Devices & Tailored Cloud Multimedia Figure 6 - The composition of the excellence package This is the most complete set of options in our entire range. It meets every possible requirement for a cutting-edge pavilion design, with the best technology available at its disposal. 16
04 SUPPORT FOR PARTICIPANTS PRELIMINARY/DETAILED TECHNICAL DESIGN
The previous paragraphs illustrate how deep and complex our range of bundles really is. We have designed them to satisfy the needs of each participant and each pavilion. With several decades of experience in supporting strategic/top customers, we know that every important client has an objective in mind, and each objective comes with its own specific requirements. This becomes all the more relevant in the uniquely challenging context of a worldwide universal Exposition like the EXPO Milan For this reason we have deployed a dedicated team for each and every participating country, assisting them in the preliminary design of their pavilion in order to match their exact requirements regarding telecommunications and IT infrastructures. We have worked closely with EXPO Country Officers to develop an interface unique to each participant, giving them the possibility to manage all technological requests from the project s inception. And our front-end team is just the tip of the iceberg: several thousand technicians and engineers are already hard at work behind the scenes to provide the best support for telecommunications, IT, cloud computing and mobile solutions. 18
