2 Study Programs in Romania The education in Romania is made up of public and private institutions and is organized in levels for the coherence and continuity of education. Currently, in Romania there are more than: 56 higher education institutions accredited (49 civilian institutions of higher education in state universities and 7 military) 26 private institutions of higher education accredited

3 Doctoral Studies in Romania Doctoral studies represent the third cycle of studies offered by the higher institutions with the purpose of expanding knowledge through original scientific research. They allow the acquisition of a level 8 qualification according to The European Qualifications Framework and to The National Qualifications Framework. Doctoral studies are organized as stipulated by the National Education Law No. 1/2011, the Government Decision No. 681/2011 regarding the approval of the Code of doctoral studies, and by the University Regulations regarding the organization and the carrying out of the doctoral studies.

4 Doctoral Studies in Romania Doctoral studies are organized only in the form of full time studies. The programs of doctoral studies are organized with state budget financing, with self-financing or based on other legally constituted sources.

5 Doctoral Studies in Romania The doctoral studies of a doctoral student are planned for a period of 3 academic years (each composed of 2 academic semesters) and comprise: a training program based on advanced academic studies, carried out in a doctoral school and composed of activities performed in institutionalized study groups; an individual program of scientific research/artistic creation.

6 Structure of Study Programs The doctoral studies end with the public defense of an original paper, called doctoral thesis, which is the result of the research activity or artistic creation carried out by the doctoral student during his/her doctoral studies. The title of doctor is granted or not granted on the basis of the doctoral thesis and its public defense.

She had made part of the previous project and had subsequently had a maternity leave. Other 2 PhD students (1 History, 1 Psychology and Education Sciences) have requested for a temporary withdrawal from study in compliance with the AMPOSDRU stipulations. A number of 2 PhD students (SD FEAA) have been granted an extended period to complete their PhD thesis.

42 43 PhD students graduated the course on Prohibition on Discrimination, organized by the International Institute of Human Rights Strasbourg and the Faculty of Law of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, on 6 September 2010, within the fourth session of the Summer School of Human Rights (which took place between 6 and 12 September 2010.) 69 international agreements concluded with prominent European universities with a view to develop research training. 11 institutional agreements concluded with European research centres / innovative companies.

43 AWARDS A prize for exceptional doctoral research has been awarded to Andreea Apetrei by two prominent international organisations. Andreea Apetrei, PhD of economics since 2012, has got the prize for the best research in the field of Management and Governance, within the Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards. Awards are sponsored by the Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., the editor of the greatest collection of scientific business and management journals, together with the Foundation for Management Development, an organisation with more than 700 members in the academic, business and public services areas.
