4 Tsinghua-Chiba University Joint Master s Program School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, in partnership with Faculty of Horticulture, Chiba University, Japan The two universities cooperate to cultivate students together. Cross-disciplinary cultivation is encouraged Each of the universities appoints one adviser for selected students. The selected students are required to study in each of the universities for one year. Upon fulfilling degrees requirements of both universities, the students will receive both degrees The School of Architecture and the Faculty of Horticulture of Chiba University in Japan signed an agreement on Dec. 8, 2008, for a Dual Degree Master s Program. Each school assigns one graduate student to participate in the program every year. The project aims to cultivate excellent designers, planners, researchers, teaching staff and administrators who have the capacity to comprehensively solve problems in landscape design and planning. 5 Tsinghua-Polito Joint Master s Program School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, in partnership with Politecnico di Torino (Polito), Italy Tsinghua University signed an agreement for a dual master s degree program in architecture with Politecnico di Torino (Polito) in July According to the agreement, Tsinghua and Polito will send two to four graduate students each year from 2015 to 2019 to participate in an exchange program. Participating students who are enrolled in the program will complete two semesters of study at their home university and continue their studies at the host university in the third and fourth semesters. The students in the program will get both a Master of Architecture degree from Tsinghua and a Master of Science in Architecture (Construction and City) degree from Polito after finishing the required course credits and passing their thesis defense. Italy is world-famous for its architectural art and architectural theory, based on its splendid history of civilization, and its enormous cultural and historical heritage. As one of the top Italian universities specializing in architecture, Politecnico di Torino (Polito) plays an important role in the research and practice of brownfield regeneration and old industrial building reuse. 6 Tsinghua-TUB Joint Master s Program in Architecture School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, in partnership with Technische Universität Berlin (Technical University of Berlin), Germany Both Tsinghua and TU Berlin will provide English courses for exchange students in the program Each student will be co-supervised by two supervisors, one from each university Credits will be mutually recognized and transferred between the partner universities The students of the program will get both a Master of Architecture degree from Tsinghua and a Master of Science in Architecture degree from TU Berlin after fulfilling the degree requirements. The program is invaluable because Germany is a country with the world s highest level of technology in building construction field. Technische Universität Berlin stands as one of the top universities for architecture in Germany. The Tsinghua University School of Architecture is building a strong relationship of long-term academic and educational cooperation with Technische Universität Berlin (Technical University of Berlin). To further those goals, the two universities in July 2014 signed an agreement for a dual master s degree program in architecture. According to the agreement, Tsinghua and TU Berlin will send two to four graduate students each year from 2015 to 2019 to participate in the exchange program. Participating students who are enrolled in the program will complete two semesters of studies at their home university and continue their curriculum at the host university in the third and fourth semesters. 7 Tsinghua-RWTH Aachen University Joint Master s Program School of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University, in partnership with RWTH Aachen University, Germany The joint master s degree program offers four tracks: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Thermal Engineering. The program aims to cultivate mechanical engineering leaders with a strong innovative scientific research ability, practical engineering ability and international vision through cross-cultural communication, course learning, scientific research and industrial internship. 20 to 30 graduate students from Tsinghua or RWTH Aachen will be sent to conduct one or one and a half years of study and an internship at each university. To date, 12 groups of students have graduated and have been awarded the double degrees issued by Tsinghua and RWTH Aachen. 8 Sino-Franco Advanced Master s Program in International Environmental Management School of Environment, Tsinghua University, in partnership with École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris, France Focus on practical abilities. Field trips, site visits, case studies, project training, internships in this program help students develop the ability to analyze and solve practical problems International perspective. Faculties from different countries provide diverse views and perspectives, which can equip students with an international vision and innovative thinking Close cooperation with industry. Mines Paris Tech and INSA Lyon have deep connections in the energy industry. This program creates a triple-win strategy for the universities, enterprises and students The joint program is committed to developing inter-disciplinary talents with a strong fundamental knowledge of the environment, an understanding of modern management methods, and the ability to solve practical problems, innovative thought and the ability to develop international perspectives. Upon graduation, students will be issued two master degrees by the respective universities. 9 Sino-Franco Advanced Master s Program in International Energy Management Department of Thermal Engineering and the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, Tsinghua University, in partnership with École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris, France Targeting the high demand of global enterprises in the energy management area, this program provides students with a deep understanding of energy management fundamentals, extended professional knowledge, modern methodologies, creative and strategic thinking, and international scope. Upon graduation, students are issued two master s degrees by the respective universities. Since the launch of this program in 2007, more than 150 students from 20 countries have successfully completed the program and have been welcomed by many leading companies worldwide. 11 Tsinghua-TUB Joint Master s Program Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University, in partnership with Technical University of Berlin (TUB), Germany The Tsinghua-TUB double degree program aims to cultivate talents with a high level of professional skill and international competitive ability. The aim is to enhance the internationalization of postgraduate education and promote overseas student education. Program students would be coadvised by faculty members from both universities. Upon satisfaction of degree requirements, students would be awarded master s degrees by both universities. The Technical University of Berlin is one of the most prestigious and internationalized universities in Germany, and has its relationships with over 200 universities worldwide. 13 Tsinghua-National Tsing Hua University Joint Master s Program Tsinghua University in partnership with National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu Tsinghua University and National Tsinghua University established a joint master program in The program is aimed at advancing academic exchanges and collaborations between the partner universities and pooling collective efforts to train high-caliber students. The partner universities, on a yearly basis, exchange up to 10 students who stay in the host university a whole year for study and research. Upon completion of the degree requirements of both universities, students would be awarded master s degrees by both institutions. So far there have been three departments, the Department of Industrial Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Engineering Physics engaged in the program. 14 Tsinghua-CMU Joint Master s Program Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, in partnership with the Computer Science Department, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA World-class faculties CMU and THU S computer science programs rank first in their respective nations Courses focus on cutting-edge advancements in computer science Carnegie Mellon University is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, and is particularly renowned for its Computer Science Department. Tsinghua is one of the best universities in China, and its Computer Science Department ranks first in the nation. In order to promote cooperation between the two universities in scientific research and student training, the two institutions have undertaken joint efforts to establish a double degree master s program in computer science. Participating students will spend one year at CMU taking courses and conducting research. After fulfilling the course requirements for each university and completing a thesis requirement at Tsinghua, the students will obtain a Master s Degree from both Tsinghua and CMU. 15 Tsinghua-USC Joint Master s Program in Science School of Information Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, in partnership with Viterbi School of Engineering(VSOE), University of Southern California(USC), USA Tsinghua University and the University of Southern California have jointly established the THU-USC Dual Degree Program for Masters of Science for the purpose of collaborative education and research in various areas of information science and technology. This program is dedicated to training high-level graduate students and promoting cultural communication. Leaders in information sciences and technology, the faculties at Tsinghua SIST and USC VSOE have established solid collaborations in wireless communication, intelligent technologies, bioinformatics, information security and green information technologies through the annual Tsinghua-USC Joint Faculty Forum and summer undergraduate exchange since 2007 Both universities send an equal number of students to the other institution, with partial curriculum credits being transferable. 16 Tsinghua-KU Leuven Joint Master s Program Department of Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics, Tsinghua University, in partnership with Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KULeuven), Belgium Training top professionals with handson experience and global vision. This program integrates specific requirements raised by the government on the cultivation of senior engineers in microelectronics, and launches an international platform during the process so that students are offered chances to learn from master s-level professors within the industry, learn about cutting-edge technologies and conduct research work in Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC) the largest and most advanced integrated circuit research and development center in Europe. This dual master's program offered jointly by Department of Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics at Tsinghua University and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven is intended to address the increasing demand for talents in integrated circuit design and technology in China and aims to equip students with a solid theoretical foundation and pioneering global vision. Its majors cover almost all engineering fields, and its microelectronics discipline takes the lead in teaching and research. It is equipped with first-class teaching facilities and scientific instruments, as well as a robust research competency. The program, launched in 2014, offers students wide opportunities to practice and communicate to help students improve their learning, research and practice skills, and aims to cultivate high-quality talents with international competitiveness for the fast-growing microelectronics industry in China. 18 Tsinghua-KTH Joint Master s Program Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, Tsinghua University, in partnership with KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden Tsinghua University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology have agreed to develop and implement a Dual Master s Degree program in the area of nuclear energy-related disciplines. The students participating in the program shall attend selected courses at both universities and obtain sufficient course credits from each university as required. The regular tuition fee at the receiving university will be waived, as long as the exchange of students within this cooperation is balanced over the duration of the agreement. The thesis examination shall be undertaken jointly by KTH and Tsinghua. And upon the successful final examination and authorized approval by the respective universities, both universities will issue their respective degree certificates. 19 Tsinghua-Tokyo Tech Joint Master s Program Tsinghua University in partnership with Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan This is the first dual master s degree program focused on Biological Engineering, Nanotechnology and Social Science run cooperatively by top universities in China and Japan. Each student is supervised by two collaborative mentors, one from each university. The program has been running successfully for 10 years, with a total of 157 enrolled students, 118 of whom have obtained their degrees. Nurture young creative talents. 20 Tsinghua-Tohoku University Joint Graduate Program Tsinghua University in partnership with Tohoku University, Japan Program taught in English Tsinghua students are granted Tohoku scholarships to cover travel and living expenses. Both universities exchange up to 10 students each year. So far there have been more than 10 research areas engaged in the program, including physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental science and engineering and engineering physics. Both doctoral and master s students are eligible for application. Launched in 2006, the Tsinghua-Tohoku University Joint Graduate Program is aimed at broadening the academic and cultural education of students from both universities so as to prepare them for international socio-economic environments. Graduate students enrolled in the program stay at the host university for one to one and a half years for study and research and then return to their home university to continue with their graduate study upon completion of the master s degree requirements at the host university. 21 Tsinghua-Columbia University Joint Master s Program The School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, in partnership with the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Columbia University, USA This program, announced in September 2014, aims to recruit experienced talents with strength in data analytics and extraordinary leadership potential. It trains high-caliber graduate students to become the next generation of global leaders. Students who successfully complete the program will receive two degrees: The Master of Management granted by Tsinghua and the Master of Science granted by Columbia. The first class in this exchange program will be recruited for the school year. The world s leading interdisciplinary program in business analytics will be created by combining the unique competencies of Tsinghua and Columbia in management and data science. 23 Tsinghua-HEC Paris Joint Master s Program in Management School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, in partnership with HEC Paris, France Tsinghua School of Economics and Management s Masters Degree in Management (MiM) Program is the first MiM program in China. Integrated from four previous master s programs in Business Strategy, Human Resources and Organizational Behavior, Marketing, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship, MiM is a general Master s program with bilingual (Chinese and English) instruction. MiM students are expected to attain knowledge systematically through a set of advanced economics and management courses. 24 Tsinghua-HEC Paris Joint Master s Program in International Finance School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, in partnership with HEC Paris, France Simplified Application Process and Favorable Tuition Treatment: All students enrolled in thesem Master of Finance Program and Master of International Finance Program at HEC Paris are qualified to apply for admission to the Double Degree Program. According to the agreement, Tsinghua students pay tuition at the same level as French citizens at HEC Paris. Flexible Program Design: Students enrolled in the Double Degree Program study at the host institution for one year. Some course credits and practice credits received at the host institution can be used to substitute for homeinstitution credits. The arrangement substantially enriches knowledge diversity and course selection. The Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (SEM) and is cooperating with HEC in offering a double degree program of Master of International Finance. This innovative program will provide learning opportunities and business experience for Tsinghua students in France and Europe. 25 Tsinghua-INSEAD Joint MBA Program School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University in partnership with INSEAD, France This joint program, the first of its kind combining international business education with a focus on Asia, targets a wide range of executives from many different countries, industries, academic and business backgrounds, especially those from the Asia Pacific region. The program takes place on a parttime, modular basis over a period of 18 months and comprises 10 modules and one academic dissertation. The students are from truly diverse nationalities. Upon successful completion of the program, the student are awarded two prestigious degrees, from Tsinghua University and INSEAD Since its launch in 2007, TIEMBA has had a total 317 students and alumni from 40 countries. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, USA Distinguished Faculty: The program plans to endow leading Tsinghua scholars from related fields as chair professors. The professors will interact with students to provide teaching and research advice on high-priority issues faced by both the United States and China. 29 Tsinghua-Politecnico di Milano Joint Master s Program Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, in partnership with Politecnico di Milano, Italy Launched in September 2011, this joint program encourages the cultivation of interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary studies. The professional research direction is in the field of Interior Design. This program is open to students enrolled in fields including design art, graphics theory, introduction to environmental art design, Chinese traditional furniture research, professional practice, and professional training courses. Tuition is waived for enrolled students. The program s students study and do research under the guidance of a mentor group comprising both faculties in the partner universities. Upon satisfaction of degree requirements, a Master of Arts degree and a Master of Science and Engineering degree will be awarded by Tsinghua University and Politecnico di Milano respectively. 31 Tsinghua-HKUST Joint Master s Program Tsinghua University in partnership with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) The Joint MPhil Program between Tsinghua University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a joint degree program established by Tsinghua University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Students enrolled in this program maintain their status and academic record in both of the universities. A novel and international education model. This joint MPhil program provides an internationalized curriculum. Students will study in both universities and conduct research at Tsinghua and HKUST who are engaged in joint research projects. By joining this program, students will obtain more knowledge in their fields, and improve their international perspective, innovative thinking and teamwork. Enrolled in two universities and credits can be transferred. Credits can be transferred to the partner university for courses they have completed at the home university. Served by advisors from both institutions and granted a joint degree. Students will be co-supervised by professors from both universities and will submit one master dissertation in English to both universities after they finish study. If the students pass the thesis defense and meet the requirements of both universities, respectively, from the two universities. On the joint degree diploma issued by the two institutions, a statement to the effect that the degree award is the result of a joint MPhil program between Tsinghua and HKUST will be inserted as a special note.
