Program Overview The Master Program of Traffic and Transportation Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) is based on the discipline of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, which is the most featured in BJTU. The discipline, with a history of 120 years, has had a global academic reputation and influence. The teaching and research team participated in the whole process of the development of China railway, such as plateau railway (Qinghai-Tibet railway), heavy load railway (Datong-Qinhuangdao railway), high speed railway, railway technical improvement and speed increase. Students admitted to the Master Program of Traffic and Transportation Engineering will systematically learn and master the basic theory and technical methods of railway operation and management, and will have the ability of independent scientific research by participating in scientific research and engineering practice under the guidance of a tutor. The graduates of the master program are qualified to become professionals in railway operation and management. II. Programs Characteristics 1. It is fully in ENGLISH MEDIUM. The instruction of the courses, the writing and assessment of the project report and thesis are all in English. 2. It is conducted by STONG FACULTY TEAM. The faculty teams of the programs are mainly composed of professors and associate professors, all of whom have doctoral degree and overseas education or working experience. Foreign teachers and experts are available for lectures. 1

3 1. This is a 2 years program with an education mode combining courses study and professional practice. 2. Students should study courses at BJTU for the first academic year and undertake professional practice and research for the second academic year. 3. Tutorial System. Students complete the theoretical study, engineering practice, research work and thesis writing, defense and other links under the guidance of the tutor. V. Program Curriculum and Credits Master program of Traffic and Transportation Engineering requires the students achieve at least 32 credits. The courses are shown in the table below. 4 VI. Requirements of degree thesis 1. The topics of degree thesis shall come from applied projects or practical problems with specific professional background and application value. Usually students choose the topic in the third semester, and then do the opening report and mid-term assessment. Those who pass the assessment will pursue a master's degree according to the training plan; those who fail to pass the assessment should submit the opening report again after making modifications. 2. Thesis oral defense is taken in the fourth semester. After completing all the arrangements stipulated in the training plan, and getting the required credits, students can apply to do thesis oral defense. Only after getting tutor s approval, can students report the paper to the research paper report committee, which is composed of 3 to 5 experts with senior professional title in logistics engineering area and relevant engineering areas. If students pass the defense, related documents will be submitted to the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of BJTU for the diploma. VII. Admission Requirement 1. Foreign citizen. If the applicant was originally a Chinese citizen, he/she must has got the foreign passport for at least 4 years and the time living in the passport issuing country must be more than 2 years (according to the exit and entry records on the passport. 9 months is regarded as 1 year). 2. Applicant must be in good health and abide to the laws and regulations 3. Applicants whose native language is not English must meet the English language proficiency requirement by at least one of the following condition: (1) Proof of high school and above education completed in the English language (2) Minimum TOEFL score of 68 (IBT) within the past 2 years (3) Minimum IELTS score of 5.5 within the past 2 years 4
