2 1. Features When an array of multiple projectors is used, you may find slight discrepancies in color reproduction between each projector. You can use this software to adjust these discrepancies for optimal visual results. All you need to do is to measure the red, green, blue, and black *1 color values coming out of one projector using a chroma meter, then enter these values into the Primary Color Matching Support software, and transfer the data from the PC to the array of projectors to coordinate them. In addition to adjusting the additive primaries - red, green, and blue - you can adjust subtractive primaries such as yellow, magenta, and cyan. You can also adjust the brightness of the white value. *1 For some models, you may need to measure white instead. 2. Software overview Use this software to adjust color levels among Panasonic DLP projectors when used in a multivision setup. This software is intended to run on a PC with Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP installed. A chroma meter or illuminometer is required. This software can apply color adjustments to up to 24 projector units. You must be able to assign the COM port an ID from 1 to 16. The display must be capable of 24-bit or 32-bit color resolution. 3 4. Adjustment procedure 4.1. Preparation Turn the projector's power on, and allow the lamp to operate for at least 20 minutes. The coloration of the lamp is not stable during the initial 20 minutes of operation, and this may hinder precise measurement Use Windows Explorer to locate the file named "ppcmss.exe", and double-click its icon The software version information will be displayed. Click on the "Next" button to continue In the "How many projectors?" entry field, enter the number of projectors you wish to coordinate (up to 24 units), then click on the "Next" button to continue. 3/26

4 Select the method by which you will be connecting (or have connected) the PC to the projectors, then click on the "Next" button to continue. To connect to all projectors using multiple cables To use one cable to connect to each projector one by one If PC and projectors are not connected with RS-232C If you are connecting the PC to all the projectors using multiple RS-232C cables, proceed to step of this section. If you are using one RS-232C cable to connect the PC to each projectors one by one, proceed to step of this section. If you do not plan to connect the PC and the projectors using RS-232C cables, proceed to step of this section If you are connecting the PC to all the projectors using multiple RS-232C cables Configure the RS-232C port, then click on the "Next" button to continue. If you select the "Test Now!" radio button, the connection to the projectors will be verified. Select the PC's RS-232C port Synchronize this value with the projectors' RS-232C settings Select "Skip RS-232C test" if you do not wish to verify the RS-232C settings 4/26

5 Click the "Next" button. An ID will be automatically assigned to each device Click the "Initialize" button. The color matching settings of each projector will be initialized. Without this initialization procedure, inaccurate color measurements may occur An inaccurate measurement may lead to unexpected results When done, click on the "Next" button to continue Proceed to step /26

6 If you are using one RS-232C cable to connect the PC to each projector one by one Configure the RS-232C port, then click on the "Next" button to continue. If you select the "Test Now!" radio button, the connection to the projectors will be verified. Select the PC's RS-232C port Synchronize this value with the projectors' RS-232C settings Select "Skip RS-232C test" if you do not wish to verify the RS-232C settings Use a remote control to set up sequential projector IDs ("1," "2," "3," etc.) in the order that they are to be configured. When all projectors have been assigned IDs, click on the "Next" button. 6/26

7 Use an RS-232C cable to connect the PC to a projector, and click on the "Initialize" button Repeat step for each projector that is to be initialized. When all projectors have been initialized, click on the "Next" button to continue Proceed to step /26

8 If you do not plan to connect the PC to the projectors using RS-232C cables Select the model number of the projector, then click the "Next" button to continue Use a remote control to set up sequential projector IDs ("1," "2," "3," etc.) in the order that they are to be configured. When all projectors have been assigned IDs, click on the "Next" button. 8/26

9 Use a remote control to configure the display setup as specified in the window. Without this initialization procedure, inaccurate color measurements may occur. An inaccurate measurement may lead to unexpected results. Configuration parameters may differ for each model When all projectors have been configured properly, click on the "Next" button. 9/26

10 4.2. Setting up the chroma meter Select the model of chroma meter that you will use, then click on the "Next" button If you select "KONICA MINOLTA CL-200" or "TOPCON SR-3", a window will appear asking you if you will connect the chroma meter to the PC via RS-232C. If you choose to connect the two devices via RS-232C, you must specify the port number that you will use. If you choose to connect the chroma meter to the PC via RS-232C cable, select the "Use RS-232C cable for a chroma meter" button. If you choose to connect the chroma meter to the PC via RS-232C, you must specify the port number. If you do not wish to connect the chroma meter to the PC, select the "Without using RS-232C cable for a chroma meter" button. 10/26

Measuring If you did not connect the chroma meter to the PC, and the PC and the projector(s) using RS-232C, then proceed to step If you did connect the chroma meter to the PC, and the PC and the projector(s) using RS-232C, then proceed to step If you did not connect the chroma meter to the PC using RS-232C Select the projector(s) that will not be included in this measurement, and press the "PIC-MUTE" or "SHUTTER" buttons on the remote control to mute their output Connect the RS232-C IN port of the projector that you wish to measure to the PC using an RS-232C cable If the projector's output has been set to mute, press "PIC-MUTE" or "SHUTTER" on the remote control to unmute it In the "No." entry field of the Primary Color Matching Support software, enter an appropriate value. The first unit to be measured should be set as "1", the second unit as "2", the third unit as "3", and so on. Make sure that the ID specified in the Primary Color Matching Support software matches each target projector's ID In the Primary Color Matching Support software, select "Test Pattern Red" from the "Control Projector" menu Use the chroma meter to measure chroma and brightness. Enter the measured chroma x and y values, as well as the brightness value, in their respective "Red" fields. 12/26

14 In the Primary Color Matching Support software, select "Test Pattern Green" from the "Control Projector" menu Use the chroma meter to measure chroma and brightness. Enter the measured chroma x and y values, as well as the brightness value, in their respective "Green" fields In the Primary Color Matching Support software, select "Test Pattern Blue" from the "Control Projector" menu Use the chroma meter to measure chroma and brightness. Enter the measured chroma x and y values, as well as the brightness value, in their respective "Blue" fields. 14/26

15 In the Primary Color Matching Support software, select "Test Pattern 10% Gray" from the "Control Projector" menu Use the chroma meter to measure chroma, and enter the x and y values into their respective "Gray" fields. If the target projector does not have "Gray" fields, then use the "Black" fields instead In the Primary Color Matching Support software, select "Test Pattern Black" from the "Control Projector" menu Use the chroma meter to measure brightness, and enter the values into their respective "Black" fields. 15/26

16 If "White" entry fields are provided by the Primary Color Matching Support software, select "Test Pattern White" from the "Control Projector" menu. Use the chroma meter to measure chroma and brightness, then enter the values into the software's "White" entry fields Press the "write" button of the Primary Color Matching Support software to store the measured values If you have more arrays of projectors to adjust, go back to step and repeat for each array. 16/26

17 If you did connect the chroma meter to the PC using RS-232C Select the projector(s) that will not be included in this measurement, and press the "PIC-MUTE" or "SHUTTER" buttons on the remote control to mute their output Connect the RS-232C IN port of the projector that you wish to measure to the PC using an RS-232C cable If the projector's output has been set to mute, press "PIC-MUTE" or "SHUTTER" on the remote control to unmute it In the "No." entry field of the Primary Color Matching Support software, enter an appropriate value. The first unit to be measured should be set as "1", the second unit as "2", the third unit as "3", and so on. Make sure that the ID specified in the Primary Color Matching Support software matches each target projector's ID Set up the chroma meter so that the projected image(s) can be measured properly Click the "Scan SR-3" button or the "Scan CL-200" button in the Primary Color Matching Support software. SR-3 CL If you have more arrays of projectors to adjust, go back to step and repeat for each array. 17/26

18 4.4. Adjustment Click on the "Search Common Gamut" button of the Primary Color Matching Support software, and wait until the software finishes calculation If you have connected the PC to all the projectors using multiple RS-232C cables, proceed to step of this section. If you are using one RS-232C cable to connect the PC to the projectors one by one, proceed to step of this section. If you will not be connecting the PC to the projectors using RS-232C cables, proceed to step of this section If you are connecting the PC to all the projectors using multiple RS-232C cables In the "Report" window of the Primary Color Matching Support software, place a check mark in the "ALL projectors" box Press the "Send" button to transfer the adjustment values. 18/26

20 If you are using one RS-232C cable to connect the PC to the projectors one by one In the "Report" window of the Primary Color Matching Support software, enter the number of the projector to be measured into the "Number" field. The projector's ID will automatically be entered into the "projector ID" field Find the projector that you wish to measure, and connect its RS-232C IN port to the PC using a RS-232C straight cable Press the "Send" button to transfer the adjustment values If you have more arrays of projectors to adjust, go back to step to repeat for each array Adjustment is now complete. 20/26

21 If you are not connecting the PC to the projectors using RS-232C cables In the "Report" window of the Primary Color Matching Support software, read the "--Set No. 1 --" values, and using the remote enter these values into the COLOR MATCHING of the ID1 projector. Some projectors require three-color entries while others require measurement mode entries. Color matching: three-color entry type Color matching: measurement mode entry type In the "Report" window of the Primary Color Matching Support software, read the "--Set No. 2 --" values, and using the remote enter these values into the COLOR MATCHING of the ID2 projector Repeat this procedure with each projector that needs to be adjusted Adjustment is now complete. 21/26

22 5. Advanced usage 5.1. This software can calculate and adjust parameters so that a set of multiple projectors can take advantage of the maximum color reproduction range. In addition, you can adjust the color reproduction range closer to each specification value by following the setup instructions below. You can also adjust the white balance Setting the color reproduction range Prior to clicking on the Primary Color Matching Support software's "Search Common Gamut" button, select "Color Gamut" from the "Setup" menu and place check marks next to the four specification options. The software now brings the projectors' color reproduction range closer to the selected color specifications After completing the color reproduction range adjustment, go to step 4.4 to transfer data to the projectors. Color temperature and color reproduction range can be set up simultaneously. Reassigning values for color temperature and color reproduction only requires the recalculation and transfer of data. You do not need to go through the measuring process again. 22/26

23 5.3. Setting the color temperature Prior to clicking on the Primary Color Matching Support software's "Search" button, select "White Balance" from the "Setup" menu to specify the color temperature. This adjusts the color temperature to the specified level After completing the color temperature adjustment, go to step 4.4 to transfer data to the projectors. Color temperature and the color reproduction range can be set up simultaneously. Reassigning values for color temperature and color reproduction only requires the recalculation and transfer of data. You do not need to go through the measuring process again. 23/26

24 5.4. Seven-color calibration In addition to the ordinary configuration of red, green, blue, and white, the PT-D7700 and PT-DW7000 models can be set up using cyan, magenta, and yellow values. Prior to clicking on the Primary Color Matching Support software's "Search Common Gamut" button, select "Advanced Setup Wizard" from the "Setup" menu In the "Advanced Setup Wizard" configuration window, select "Projector type". 24/26

25 For the PT-D7700, PT-DW7000, PT-D10000, and PT-DW10000 models, "Matching Mode" can be selected Using a chroma meter in seven-color mode Select the "PC mode 7 Colors with chroma meter" radio button. 25/26

26 If you have selected "Default" for each cyan, magenta, and yellow setting, the RGB values are calculated to create natural results. If "Custom" is selected, and the "Dynamic" button is clicked, the settings are configured to reproduce the most vivid tones available. If "Custom" is selected, and the "srgb" button is clicked, the color will be set as close to the srgb specification as possible. If you set the "Gain" level lower, the specified color becomes darker After completing the seven-color settings, go to step 4.4 to transfer data to the projectors. 26/26
