Excellence Our University is committed to providing excellence both academically and professionally. Therefore, this is an integral part in the education of our students. We are dedicated to our quality of teaching, innovation, research, practical sessions, and full employment of our graduates. Tradition CEU San Pablo University, a non-profit educational institution. It has been created by the Catholic Association of Propagandists and has spent almost 80 years dedicating its effort to educate students from all different points of view: as human beings, academic and professionally, so that they gain the necessary skills to work in relevant areas, both nationally and internationally. International Scope Our University links its academic excellence with the international prospects of our students. Therefore, we make in English degrees available to them, in addition to the opportunity to study abroad, international placements, summer classes at University, etc. These are all oriented to provide the students with an international academic experience which prepares them to integrate into a multicultural society. Foreign students are welcome to join our courses. Erasmus and bilateral exchanges fill our classrooms with people from all nationalities. This gives our university an international approach that enriches ourselves with an open view to other cultures. Classes taught in English and Spanish make it possible for foreign students to follow the lectures and improve their Spanish. There are also special extra-curricular courses of Spanish as a foreign language for those who require it. A Challenging Atmosphere The news study plans have helped to produce a unique school of thought, which is exclusive to our students, looking at this from a triple-headed perspective: the importance of a rigorous and good quality education, challenging contents in each module and professionalism in our teaching. Humanism Inspired by the principles of Christian Humanism, CEU San Pablo University puts all possible means, both academic and human, at the disposal of its students so that they can develop their talents in a demanding academic environment and with a clear sense of duty and social responsibility. Innovation CEU San Pablo University has spent more than eight years immersed in a process of development and application of renovated and highly efficient teaching methods, which focus on allowing the maximum amount of interaction between lecturers and students. So, adaptation to the EHEA will effectively respond to the necessary learning processes of our students. Teaching staff Teaching and research are two inseparable entities at our University. The lecturers and professors of CEU are excellent, and in addition to the University s outstanding academic profile, which is down to its tradition of high levels of teaching coming from its permanent study of new methods and pedagogic techniques, as well as its devoted participation in nationwide and international programmes of research in centres like the European Business School (EBS) in London, the École Supérieure de Commerce Extérieur, Copenhagen Business School or the Imperial College, London.

Pastoral Care Classroom Volunteering Cultural Life Sports Languages EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES CEU San Pablo University, like the rest of the Universities created by the Association of Catholic Propagandists, is recognised for its Christian and humanist traditions. Therefore, this is apparent in knowledge and skills, in the academic excellence and in the best academic training, which our students gain, and also in the extracurricular activities on offer. These activities encourage growth in all regards, thereby creating a person capable of discovering and passing on the truth, an ethical person who will serve society well; truth and its values are at the heart of this.
Dear Students, THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND COMMUNICATION SCIENCES WELCOME FROM THE DEAN A long time ago a Spanish thinker once wrote that curiosity does not stay awake; the truth never sleeps. All interest is the continuation of an interest. In a time of great change and of unstoppable progress in the universe of communications, What does a student need to be a good journalist, a good communicator, a good advertiser, a humanist, in short? If we go by what the many generations have been educated in our School, it is curiosity. Curiosity and admirations lie at the heart of academic and vocational education. In the School of Humanities and Communication Sciences of CEU San Pablo University we are sure that there are no recipes for professional success in the world of communication. Our occupation, and preoccupation, is the academic and professional interests of our students. With rigour and seriousness we offer suitability not only to a route to education, but also to prepare students for market demands, a characteristic symbolised by being a leader in the teaching of Humanities. People everywhere are talking about a crisis in communication and a crisis in Journalism. They are not small problems; they began when man started to tell stories, echoing voices from the past. We do not experiment. We are committed to the future without forgetting what has enabled us to get to here; we innovate to improve what we already have. And this key concept is what differentiates us. It is certain that technology and new trends in the incorporation of messages, from multimedia, from the implicit and from the internet as a model helped us to confirm our present and prepare us for the future. Here we are. History, our history, is always telling. The study of journalism at CEU San Pablo University counts on a great tradition, tracing its roots back to the first School of Journalism that ever existed in Spain, that of El Debate, which Ángel Herrera Oria founded in 192. Ángel Herrera Oria created the School of Journalism, which he led in its first year. Later, it was the Centre of Higher Education at CEU San Pablo which taught this degree, from the academic year until in 1993, when CEU San Pablo University took over responsibilities for this. No sooner than a year later, in 1994 Humanities was incorporated into the degrees run by the School of Humanities. The specialisation came subsequently, with degrees in Audiovisual Communication, in Advertising and in Public Relations. Three years later we completed our academic offer with the degrees in History and in History of Art, and we are now in third year of the degree in Digital Communication, a safe bet for communication and new technologies. Thanks to our tradition and our experience, we are making all we can available to our students, to help them with their learning: technological resources, applied investigation, professional experience, job placements, a wide-ranging relationship with the media and social leaders. They will see the result of this in our lecture halls. José Francisco Serrano Oceja Dean of the School of Humanities and Communication Sciences.
THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND COMMUNICATION SCIENCES OUR GOALS What we offer academically and what we will offer to our prospective students has been built on years of experience of innovative teaching and adaptations to the latest demands of society. Therefore, our degrees and international degrees respond to a globalised world and follow the criteria of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Also, we offer postgraduate courses and PHD programmes, thereby allowing students to further their studies. We have developed study plans for different degrees with three main focuses in mind: providing continuity in the student s education, covering the different areas of study thoroughly, and providing a demanding curriculum in each module and rigour in the teaching we give. As regards our methods of teaching, CEU San Pablo University has spent more than ten years immersed in a process of developing and applying improved teaching methods and making them more effective; these new methods are based on enhancing the interaction between lecturers and students. Also, the careful selection of our teaching staff, their integration into groups of teachers, perfectly co-ordinated and providing continuous education (like, for example, through our Plato programme with Harvard University), in different teaching methods, has allowed our University to adapt to the EHEA with ease. The lasting reality is that our students work in a continuous and autonomous way although they are always under the supervision of our lecturers and professors, who are experts in their own areas of research. The teaching staff guide them through their University career and, in the end, our graduates not only have solid knowledge to count on but they also have vital skills for the working world, in addition to the critical capacity to collaborate in a group, solve problems, make decisions, plan their work and manage their time, or adapt to new situations, environments and people. In general, our educative project seeks to forge men and women with an excellent education. Our students will be prepared for professional development through our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. An Innovative School In the School of Humanities we offer our students the best infrastructure that helps them to maintain contact with the real world that is waiting for them when they leave their classrooms and are faced with the professional world. Our objective is to make sure that the students gain not only the knowledge but also the necessary skills to develop into their chosen professions.
THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND COMMUNICATION SCIENCES OUR FACILITIES The Audiovisual Centre Communication Agency Photographic Laboratory Programmes to bring students closer to the professional world On-CEU CEU Media The Audiovisual Centre Communication Agency Students taking courses on television and radio can count on two professional radio studios equipped with AEQ digital consoles, with XFrame and MAR4WIN software, two TV sets equipped with Geevs technology, two post-production studios and two classrooms with non-lineal editing equipped with Final Cut Pro HD, Avid DV and Pro Tools HD systems. Also, ENG P2 HD equipment is used in practical classes. In our Communication Agency, La Agencia which was created by the School, our students get to know firsthand the daily work that professionals in that sector carry out, from the creative side and planning to the organisation of events. All of the Audiovisual Centre is connected by means of a host system, EditShare, which administers the shared storage of all the files produced. The facilities are completed by a technical warehouse, a central control, a research centre, a non-lineal editing booth with unrestricted access, a post productionsound studio and a makeup studio. The student of the School of Humanities and Communication Sciences may borrow this equipment free of charge they may borrow both the digital as well as the analogical equipment. Students are able to reserve this equipment in order to carry out practical assignments for their subjects, final degree projects and their personal projects. Photographic Laboratory From the start of their studies, our students are able to access the latest photographic equipment reflex digital cameras, multimedia cameras, studio lighting, an editing booth, I.T. programmes etc. and there are different spaces where students are taught: a studio, a digital-based classroom, an editing room and a traditional laboratory. Moreover, there is a free service to lend equipment and book laboratory facilities so that our students can develop their own work. CEU Media With the audiovisual production company, CEU Media, our students have the opportunity to create audiovisual contents, to be broadcast on the professional media. Programmes to bring students closer to the professional world -P rofessionals in the classroom: one of our main objectives in the School is to bring the professional world close to the student so that in an academic environment a student has the opportunity to get to know the realities of working life. - Professional trainers: through this programme and in smaller groups, a professional from the media prepares students for what they will face in the future transferring their experience from the real world. - Close up : what we want to achieve with this programme is that professionals recognised in their area explain to students the realities of the workplace, telling them about their experiences, sharing their knowledge so that students can take note of what the work market is like and On-CEU In the School of Humanities and Communication Sciences we have started this project with which we aim to put our students at the heart of new technologies. Amongst the unbeatable facilities which we have at our School, we update our students news webpage, OnCEU, on a daily basis. Our webpage combines written journalism, with radio and television, and it allows students to understand the new digital and multimedia outlook where they will work when they join the labour market. As a consequence of the importance of international programmes in our campus, it includes news in English too.
THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND COMMUNICATION SCIENCES DEGREES IN ENGLISH One of the major interests of the School of Humanities and Communication is the development of our academic offer in English to provide foreign students with the chance of following courses while they reach their proficiency in Spanish. Our students in the international groups will complete their preparation with terms spent abroad, in foreign Universities, with Erasmus or bilateral exchange agreements or specific programs as in the case of Boston University and Columbia University. Both Boston (Metropolitan College) for the Degree in Advertising and Public Relations, and Columbia University (School of Continuing Education) for the Degrees in Journalism, Audiovisual Communication, Digital Communication and Advertising and Public Relations, provide our students with unique opportunities to learn in an we environment and obtain additional diplomas to their Degrees: The International Business Certificate, issued by Boston University and the International and Strategic Communications Certificate issued by the School of Continuing Education of Columbia University.
