11 F3J Pictured above is a tribute to Neil Webb, and original Programme for the inaugural event. Neil Webb The Neil Webb Trophy will be awarded to the individual winner of the World Championship for Thermal Duration Gliders (FAI Class F3J) to be held at Upton-upon-Severn in August The Trophy was designed and produced by Chris Tompkins, who won an open design competition sponsored by the British Association of Radio Controlled Soarers (BARCS). It will be presented to the FAI as a perpetual trophy and will be awarded every two years at the F3J World Championships. The trophy consists of a perspex sphere representing the world, inside which is mounted a model of a modern radio controlled glider. The base is of English oak, with brass plates to record the winners names. Neil Webb, in whose memory the trophy is dedicated, was a pioneer of the F3J class both within the UK and overseas. It was Neil who first proposed this championship in December 1994 Neil was the President of BARCS, a foundation member having served on its Committee continuously since it began in He represented Great Britain at the F3B World Championships at Amay, Belgium in 1979 having built both his models and his own radio equipment. He was a pioneer of thermal soaring and thermal soaring competition in the UK. Left, the Neil Webb Individual Trophy, right is the QFI Teams Trophy.

19 F3F The F3F World Championship Trophy As organisers of the first FAI World Championship for the F3F class, we have the privilege of founding the challenge trophy. After the World Championship, the trophy will be owned by the FAI and lent to subsequent F3F World Championships for 2 years at a time. A wonderful side effect is that the trophy will remind people of Rügen for many years to come. Of course, with this honour comes great responsibility. We aspire to create an aesthetic piece with permanent value, whose material and design ensure its timeless beauty. Niels Peters, Jewelry designer and resident of Cape Arkona, has been commissioned to create the piece. Ultimately, a design featuring a large rock crystal was chosen. The rock will be smoothed into the shape of a sail, while still partially retaining its natural form. The sail symbolises the maritime character of Rügen, the venue for the first World F3F Championship. The beautiful raw stone, chosen in autumn 2011, made its way to Idar-Oberstein, a town known for its stone and jewel cutters to be transformed into the desired shape. Then the most difficult stage begins, the search for a fist-sized amber with insect inclusion, which will be shaped to fit the contour of the rock crystal, and crown the top of the trophy. The precious ambers are typical of the coast from the Baltic region to Rügen. Finally, the finished work of art will be placed on a pedestal, which will provide enough space for both the name of the trophy and the name of the future world champion. The name of the trophy is Trophy Kap Arkona. Note- FAI Medals & Cups will be awarded to the three individual placegetters, and for Teams, CIAM Medals and FAI Diplomas will be awarded with diplomas awarded to all participants. 1 ST 2012 INAUGURAL EVENT CAPE ARKONA, RUGEN, GERMANY 1.
