4 INTRODUCTION TO DURBAN Durban is the largest city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. It is also the second most important manufacturing hub in South Africa after Johannesburg. Durban is famous for being the busiest port in South Africa and in Africa. It is also one of the major centers of tourism, because of its subtropical climate and extensive beaches. The city has a large and diversified economy with strong manufacturing, tourism, transportation, finance and government sectors. Its coastal location and large port gives it a comparative advantage over many other centers in Southern Africa for export-related industry. To date, Durban remains the third richest city in South Africa. Being the main economic driver in KwaZulu-Natal, Durban contributes over half of the province s output, employment and income. In national terms, it is the second most important economic complex after Gauteng, accounting for 15% of national output, 14% of household income and 11% of national employment. The planned expansion of the Port of Durban worth over USD 3 billion is important to ensure Durban s ongoing contribution to the growing economy of South Africa. Of particular interest to the programme delegates, will be visiting local companies from a variety of industries. This will provide delegates with an opportunity to network with local entrepreneurs and understand the dynamics faced by businesses within the South African context. Expect to be charmed when exploring the city and its infrastructure, experiencing its diverse culture and consumer behaviour and tasting its distinctive cuisine. With a population topping 3 million people, you can be assured that Durban is ethnically diverse, with a cultural richness of mixed beliefs and traditions.

5 PROGRAMME RATIONALE Delegates are invited to explore the dynamics of leadership - its foundations, variations and complexity. The programme will encourage delegates to engage and will challenge their perceptions of leadership. By reflecting on their experiences, delegates will begin to analyse and develop their leadership strengths and weaknesses, guiding them to make sound strategic and management decisions. Corporates are no longer in favour of the traditional leadership programmes offered by business schools and require managers and executives to attend programmes that are stimulating and out of the ordinary. While being firmly rooted in sound contemporary research by leading thinkers in the world, MANCOSA s Leadership Development Programme (LDP) offers delegates an opportunity to experience a profound personal and leadership transformation. It s never too late to learn, change or find your passion.

6 PROGRAMME DETAILS The LDP is an initiative by the Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA). MANCOSA is an accredited private higher education institution which has been in operation for over 20 years in South Africa. Apart from its long standing track record locally, MANCOSA has expanded its regional and international reach to 10 countries within the SADC region, as well as to Mauritius and Russia. The programme will be delivered at the Mancosa [GSB], a world class training facility in the heart of the Durban city centre. MANCOSA currently has approximately students globally. The key objectives of the programme are as follows: Discover hidden decision-making possibilities that come from taking a complexity perspective; Learn to become more intelligent in the moment by improving decisionmaking skills under pressure; Learn to appreciate nature; Learn to follow your passion, whatever it may be; Become curious about your surroundings; Become far more aware of personal triggers and blind spots; Be challenged by exploring life from different perspectives; and Learn from both traditional learning styles as well as interactive and experiential activities. Learn to move from the above-the-line way of managing systems, structures, processes and timelines to incorporate the below-the-line way of leading with consultation, relationship and information; from the rational to the non-rational; from the complicated to the complex.

8 EXPERTS IN THE FIELD Dr José Pascal da Rocha is a facilitator on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. He is also an adjunct professor with the City University of New York, teaching on leadership and management, and a lecturer with the Center for Conflict Studies at the University of Marburg, Germany, teaching courses in political science. Having also worked as a political advisor and mediator expert, Pascal has provided mediation support to the Kampala Talks between the Government of the DRC and M23 movement and he has provided mediation expertise to UN Women while working on the Geneva II peace talks for Syria, Myanmar and Colombia. He has gained extensive operational experience in peacekeeping operations spanning throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, ranging from Cambodia to Somalia and from the Balkans to Afghanistan. Pascal has worked throughout Africa, the Balkans, South East Asia and Central Asia, also providing curriculum development support, capacity building, and monitoring and evaluation expertise in donor-funded programmes. He has also worked in the corporate sector, providing leadership development, intercultural training, negotiation in business, and human rights impact assessment for extractives. His research interests are in gender, mediation, peace processes, governance, peace and conflict studies. Advocate Mahomed Vahed has been a prosecutor, magistrate, advocate, law lecturer and banking executive. He has conducted leadership development programmes for corporations and is a sought-after public speaker. Advocate Vahed has authored nine books, the latest being The Art of Public Speaking. After 15 successful years at a leading financial institution, the last five as an executive, Advocate Vahed has made a drastic career move by following his passion of educating and writing.

9 Professor Anthony Rippon holds a doctoral degree in strategic management and specialises across various subject areas including Strategic Community Development, Strategic Management, Strategic Marketing Management, International Business, Ethics and Professionalism, Environmental Management and Tourism. Professor Rippon has obtained extensive experience over the years in both the public and private sectors, across various industries and has volunteered to provide direction to numerous Civil Society Organisations (Chambers of Commerce and Industry and various Faith Based Organisations). Dr Preeya Daya s passion for enhancing business performance through transforming human resources and organisational development initiatives is backed up by qualifications including a PhD (Business Administration) from the University of Cape Town and Master of Technology (Human Resouce Management) from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The focus of her master s degree was performance management, and her doctoral research examined the relationship between diversity, inclusion and performance in a South African context. Her research interests are understanding diversity and inclusion, and building tools for creating more inclusive workplaces. Dr Daya s areas of expertise include diversity and inclusion, performance management, leadership and team performance, high performance culture, employee engagement, strategic human resource management and organisational behaviour.

11 COST The cost of the programme is as follows: SADC/International Delegates: USD2 000 The cost includes airport transfers in South Africa, accommodation for 5 nights commencing 19th July 2015, meals and company tours. The price excludes airfares, entrance visas, required immunizations, personal expenses, optional cultural events and sightseeing. South African Delegates: R (excluding accommodation) R (including accommodation for 5 nights commencing 19th July 2015). The cost includes airport transfers in South Africa, meals and company tours. Kindly note that the price may increase due to exchange rate fluctuations. PAYMENT TERMS Payment needs to be made by 03rd July CLOSING DATE & SELECTION CRITERIA The closing date for the submission of application forms is 29th June All applications will be subject to a selection process. A maximum of 25 delegates will be selected for the programme.

12 TOUR & TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS We appreciate your understanding in abiding by the following important guidelines: ACCOMMODATION Accommodation will be provided at a hotel that has a variety of amenities including Wifi access and breakfast. All rooms are single occupancy. AIRFARE Delegates will be responsible for travel arrangements to Durban as well as returning to their respective countries. ATTENDANCE Delegates are required to attend all lectures and company visits. ATTIRE Formal dress will be required for the lecture sessions. FREE TIME Free time is scheduled during the programme visit. Group activities may be organised during this time, but participation is completely optional. TOURIST/ENTRY VISA Depending on nationality, delegates will be required to obtain entry visas prior to entering South Africa. VACCINATION, MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE Where applicable, delegates are responsible for obtaining a vaccination card and are liable to cover the cost for the vaccines. Delegates are liable to cover their own medical and travel insurance costs.
