1 Masters of Beef Advocacy Program Consumers love beef. They love the sizzle of a steak on the grill and biting into a thick, juicy burger. But they have questions. Where does beef come from? Is it safe? Is proper care given to animals and the environment? We have a great story to tell. Beef producers work hard every day to be good stewards of the land and their animals in providing safe and nutritious beef for America s dinner tables. We need to be passionate and vocal in telling our story. That s what the Masters of Beef Advocacy (MBA) program is about equipping beef producers across the country to tell their story in presentations to schools and church/civic groups, through local media and in the virtual world of the Internet. What Is the MBA Program? The MBA program is a self-directed online training program designed to equip beef producers including our youth and industry allies with the information they need to be everyday advocates for the beef industry. MBA candidates will be required to complete six courses in beef advocacy, including: Modern Beef Production Sharing the many benefits of modern, efficient U.S. beef production Animal Care Explaining our commitment to raising healthy animals Beef Safety Communicating why producing safe food for consumers is a top priority Beef Nutrition Explaining how great-tasting beef strengthens and sustains our bodies Environmental Stewardship Sharing how we re protecting the environment for future generations The Beef Checkoff Communicating the value of your investment in growing demand for beef Once candidates have completed all six courses, Oklahoma FFA Instructors and Students will be invited to join the Masters of Beef Advocacy Alumni Association a virtual community for MBA graduates to log your advocacy activity and share stories with fellow MBA graduates, as well as download the latest talking points, fact sheets and presentations you need to be everyday advocates. This can be as simple as talking to friends, family and neighbors. Graduates also will be equipped with tools to reach out to broader audiences in their communities by: Giving presentations schools, civic organizations, etc. Getting active in the online environment posting comments/video on Web sites, blogging, etc. Participating in media interviews print and/or broadcast media

2 How Can You and Your Students Participate? There are two ways to participate in the program, through self-study or through a classroom environment. Self-Study FFA students and instructors can complete the on-line training program on their own time as part of a self-study course by registering at This could also include computer lab time if a FFA chapter has access to one. For tracking reasons, it is key when a student or FFA instructor is registering they enter the following: CONTACT INFORMATION Company, School, or Farm/Ranch Name: Students will enter name of chapter and FFA student identification number (Example: Claremore FFA 12345) Instructors will enter name of chapter and FFA chapter identification number (Example:Claremore FFA OK12345 Job Title Enter student or FFA instructor Once a student or FFA instructor has submitted their information, their application will be reviewed and within three to five business days, they will receive login information to sign onto the course. The student or instructor will need to enter the following in their safe senders to ensure the confirmation with login information is not filtered. Please send an to samato@oklabeef.org with the student s name when a student has completed the online course to ensure we have identified them in the database. Class Study An FFA instructor can also choose to conduct the program as part of a class. The Oklahoma Beef Council will provide a training CD to each instructor who chooses this route. Steps to conducting FFA program as a class 1. Please send us the application form included with this information. The Oklahoma Beef Council will mail you the training CD which includes the program, test key, and tests.

It is important to provide the s of your students so they can join the MBA Alumni Association upon their completion of the MBA program. If you do not receive confirmation of receipt of your within five business days, please call the Oklahoma Beef Council at After each section is completed with your class, please give your class the test and homework. 3. Grade each section. Students must complete the essay questions demonstrating knowledge gained from the course and achieve 70% on the multiple choice quiz to pass. 4. We do not need the homework assignments, just the test. 5. For planning purposes, the length of each section is between 30 and 45 minutes long. It is possible to stop a section for continuance the next day. FFA Students Every FFA student who completes their MBA through the on-line training program or through a classroom program as part of the pilot program by March 27, 2014 will be entered into a drawing. Nine lucky students will win $ and two will win $ for presentation at the

4 Oklahoma FFA convention. Additionally, fifteen students will win $75.00 a piece for participating to be mailed to the students.
