(b) All transient students on Federal financial aid (Stafford loans) who cannot pick up or negotiate their checks in person must have the person appointed as their power of attorney do so. The designated person can be a family member or another peer; however, a work-study student in the Financial Aid Office and the Accounting Services Office cannot provide this service to you. Also, the power of attorney cannot be issued to someone who is employed at South Texas College of Law. Arrangements for fixed expenses in Houston are the sole responsibility of the student. The study abroad program includes tuition and fees, books and supplies, housing and meals, transportation including airfare for the program, and a reasonable amount for miscellaneous expenses. 13 IMPORTANT REMINDER 1. ALL required documents for the study abroad program (co-sponsored and nonsponsored) must be completed for processing. If the documents are not turned in you will not be packaged for the program. You must also register for at least 3 credit hours to receive financial aid. 2. The original copy of the Power of Attorney (P.O.A.) form must be provided to the designated person. You may also want to check with your bank to see if they require the original copy of the P.O.A. form and if that particular form is acceptable. If so, you must have an original P.O.A. for both your designated person and your bank. 3. When your funds arrive, the usual procedure for your refund check is applied. Please inform your designated P.O.A. person that a picture ID along with the original P.O.A. form must be provided when acquiring your check(s). Also, the regular business hours for check negotiation is enforced, unless an appointment is scheduled, The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid will NOT be responsible for your Fall 2013 registration if your classes are dropped by the Registrar s Office due to your missing the May deadline for filing for financial aid. Therefore, all required financial aid paperwork for the academic year must be received (and date stamped) by our office on or before May 1, Meeting the May deadline will include you in consideration of both grants and scholarships. 5. You will be responsible to check Stanley for your Fall 2013 award information. The acceptance of your financial aid on Stanley will serve as a confirmation of your acceptance of the financial aid awards offered. You must review and acknowledge your financial aid on Stanley in order for us to certify your loan(s) for the upcoming academic year. 6.
