Critical iue in wind turbine deign (Uncertaintie) IEA-meeting Trondheim, Norway June
Proect idea: To ignificantly improve deign bai for offhore wind turbine by: Analying all deign proce component and thu identifying component being critical and/or preent mot uncertain, and in turn try to improve the identified component
Component in deign Repone calculation Wind Wave and current Geotechnical Meaurement/Repone verification Load ynthei
Deign proce, wind part only Etreme gut U et Turbulence td. σ i Wind climate Decription Mean climate A, k Etreme wind U 50y (Etreme) hear du i /d i Spectra S i ( ω,) Air denity ρ Generation of load cae Model of aero-load Structure model Repone cae Deign load re-ynthei Scale of turbulence L i Wake flow
Deign proce Etreme gut U et Turbulence td. σ i Wind climate Decription Mean climate A, k Wind and wake Etreme wind U 50y (Etreme) hear du i /d i Spectra S i ( ω,) Wave and current Air denity ρ Generation of load cae Model of aero-load Structure model Repone cae Deign load re-ynthei Scale of turbulence L i Wake flow
Meaurement Interpretation of pecific load baed on repone meaurement Etrapolation to etreme event of repone meaurement Meaurement of D/3D wave kinematic Verification of local ea bed Meaurement of relationhip between wt characteritic (C T, maybe alo C P and other?) with the flow characteritic of the wake. Meaurement/etimation of reference mean wind peed for wake characterization. Meaurement of wake turbulence, wake width etc. to which the rotor i actually epoed. Linking wake flow characteritic to wind turbine load/repone
Wave and current Kinematic of teep 3D wave (alo breaking) combined with current (theory, numerical calculation) Load from uch wave Load outide normal validity-range of uual epreion for load Time variation of C D og C M implification Aement of uncertaintie for different wave/current model and epreion for load Wave damping and added ma how to implement in complete model.
Wind load Etreme gut normal operation Etreme wind of lifetime Turbulence alone repreentative? Separation and ambient mean wind C T what influence on wake-flow? Dicrete flow tructure Load repone meaurement from large off-hore wind farm Engineering model for load calculation that model the phyic more directly (a Kenneth Thomen) Guideline for handling of wake load in connection with type certification of wind turbine and proect certification of wind farm.
Geoteknik (Morten) Load-deflection curve (P-y curve) o The framework for the p-y curve (decribed in the API tandard) are baed on hollow teel pile with a diameter of appro..5 to meter. The pile at Horn Rev are 4 meter in diameter and the application (performance) of the p-y curve for large diameter pile hould be invetigated. o The curvature of the p-y curve in the pre-platic portion i typically approimated by parabolic epreion. Thee approimation are not ueful in the mall-train area, e.g. for analyi of reonance frequencie. Cyclic behaviour of pile? Determine the relevance of the meaured quantitie. Are the meaurement ueful with repect to the evaluation of the foundation behaviour? Lateral Pile Reitance o The ULS calculation for the pile are to be compared with an elato-platic Finite Element Analyi with the ame oil condition
Repon modelling Pro and con of the FE-formulation and modal formulation ued in the tructural core of HAWC and FLEX. Implementation of wind and wave model ued in FLEX5 and HAWC hall be aeed How to implement a P-Y curve formulation of oil-tructure The wind and wave model interaction with tructural core and foundation module hall be evaluated.
Load ynthei Preent model for fatigue load in wind farm Incluion of ea tate in fatigue calculation Simple model for etrapolation of load effect Determinitic load cae (normal operation) Load combination for torm ituation, incl. Clarification of iue re. deign load v. deign load effect Clear definition characteritic tate
Uncertaintie: total v. component = = i i y... = =... i i y ( ) = = i i i y = i i i y
Suggeted IEA-anne mantra: Identify larget uncertaintie in deign proce and do omething about thee!
