2 Project "Promoting the advantages for investing in Bulgaria" consists of four main groups of activities Analysis Promotional materials and media campaign Direct Marketing Support Measures Strategy Analysis Legal Analysis Marketing Strategy Investors satisfaction survey and analysis of other agencies Investigation of sources of information Development of the structure and content of investment brochures Media campaign in Europe, USA, Asia Development of three videos Development of four documentaries New website of IBA 9 international investment forums 3 conferences and 9 round tables with world business media Information campaigns for the Bulgarians abroad Journalist tours in Bulgaria Purchase of a hardware and web server Information system development Implementation of a new system for document processing Services for audit of the project Publicity and visualization of the project BGN 1,207 mln BGN 6,562 mln BGN 3,425 mln BGN 0,826 mln (including BGN for transportation of the brochures) Page 2
3 The strategic analysis, prepared by AT Kearney, identified eight target sectors to attract foreign investors The following activities were completed: Analyses of the structure of the Bulgarian economy and global business trends Development of a concept for a national strategy for promoting Bulgaria as an investment destination There were identified the following target sectors: Machine building Electronics and Electrical engineering Chemistry Food and agriculture Transport and Logistics Information technology Business process outsourcing Healthcare and medical tourism Materials were developed to support potential investors: Database of companies in Bulgaria by regions and economic sectors Presentations for the target sectors In January 2013, AT Kearney updated the strategic analysis of the Bulgarian economy and the overview of trends in FDI in South-East Europe. 4 What other analyzes were carried out in the preliminary phase of the project? Marketing Strategy Analysis of other agencies attracting investors Legal Analysis An empirical study of awareness, image and attitude towards Bulgaria as an investment destination There have been surveyed 3,000 companies from Europe, USA, Asia Among the key findings of the report was poor awareness and lack of consistency characteristic image of Bulgaria as an investment destination New marketing strategy The analysis covers agencies in three groups of countries - Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary), Balkans (Romania, Serbia), other countries with rapid growth of FDI (Ireland) The following parameters were analyzed: priorities, services offered, incentives for investors and financing structure Analysis of the Bulgarian legislation for attracting of investments Creating a shortened version in 5 languages supplemented by road maps on Bulgarian and English about important for the investors procedures Comparative legal analysis of the laws of Germany, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Serbia Page 4
5 162 thousands promotional brochures have been printed and sent to commercial offices Translation in English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian. Some of the brochures have bent translated into Turkish, Italian, Arabic and Portuguese. A transaction in Korean, Japanese and Hebrew is expected in More than 300 interviews with leading firms in the respective sectors, with commercial chambers, with HR specialists etc. have been conducted. Each sectorial brochure(64 pages) includes overall macroeconomic and political information about Bulgaria, examples for leading companies, information about factors relevant to the given industry etc. The overview booklet (200 pages) includes information from al l other brochures, as well as, examples from industries, not covered in he sectorial brochures. Currently, an update of both the sectorial and the overview brochures has been undertaken. Page 5
6 A media campaign in leading print and television communication channels and the Internet has been launched The media campaign costing BGN 4.5 mln will give the opportunity to promote Bulgaria in leading world media channels: The advertising materials will have a common vision and will share common elements The focus will be on the attractiveness of the country as a investment destination, examples for successful Bulgarian and foreign investors will be shown, as well Advertising materials used during the campaign will include banners and videos: 36 banners will be made and published in leading print editions: (FT, The Economist, WSJ, Bloomberg, Business week) 3 promotional video clips will be captured, which will be subsequently translated and broadcasted 630 times in Europe, Asia and the USA: (CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg) BIA is in the process of implementation of the media campaign: Preparation of banners an video clips: until 20th of February 2013 Publishing the materials: 20th of February 2013 November 2013 Page 6
7 Additional marketing and advertisement materials are being developed Documentaries Short videos 4 documentaries on: Industrial zones in Bulgaria Priority sectors for investment promotion Intellectual resources and human potential Success stories of foreign and domestic investors Duration: 27 minutes Language: English The movies will be distributed on the events of IBA DVDs with the documentaries will be provided to potential investors 3 short videos about: Political, financial and fiscal stability in Bulgaria Major foreign investors in Bulgaria Attractive sectors of the Bulgarian economy Duration: 30 seconds Language: English. German, Chinese and Japanese During the media campaign the short videos will be broadcasted (630 times) on leading world business TV channels Page 7
8 A new website of BIA has been created The graphic design and IT-filled part have been made by the Icygen company, the content has been written by the BIA team The website has been originally released in Bulgarian and English, however, in the following months Russian and German versions will be offered In addition to the information given in the previous website of InvestBulgaria, the new one includes data from sectorial and overview brochures A special section for industrial zones and potential investment projects An associate responsible for regularly updating the website and uploading more news and information materials has bee appointed Page 8
9 Seven out of nine international conferences, promoting different economic sectors were already held Conferences are being held in nine countries, approved by the MA under OP "Competitiveness 7 conferences were held so far in London, Munich, Dubai, Paris, Moscow, Shanghai and Tokyo. Two more are left in San Francisco and Brussels Each conference will is focused on up to 3 of the target sectors from the strategic analyses of AT Kearney. Managers of domestic and foreign companies, chambers of commerce and NGOs also participate in the events The conferences are coordinated with the heads of business services of Bulgaria and other countries, with embassies and chambers of commerce Page 9
10 Four out of the twelve events, organized by a consortium MPG / Financial Times, were already successfully held Organization of 3 conferences and 9 round tables in Europe, USA and East Asia About 100 participants are expected to attend the conferences, about 30 people on the round tables Participants include senior managers of international companies. Among the speakers in the conferences will be senior government officials and executives of leading foreign investors in Bulgaria Advertisement of the events will be published in Financial Times, as well as in their website 5-10 advertisements, interviews, etc. prior and after each conference Time span: November 2012 March 2013 Page 10
11 Other activities and marketing events Bulgarians abroad Journalistic Tours Organization of 13 promotional events to Bulgarians abroad Potential locations: Vienna, Milano, Berlin, Madrid, Moscow, Chicago, Tel Aviv and others Participants minimum 50 people from the Bulgarian community students and successful experts Database with contacts of the Bulgarian Diaspora - students and successfully realized in business Bulgarians Main focuses - attracting specialists back to Bulgaria and contact with potential foreign investors. Organizing of five journalistic tours in Bulgaria thematically linked with the 8 priority sectors from the strategic analysis. At each tour participate 12 journalists, representatives of leading TV, printed and electronic media from the European Union, the USA, Russia, China, Japan, Turkey and Korea. Currently, the last journalistic tour is held, which is focused on the healthcare sector, medical tourism and balneology. Page 11
