2 Description The DX8100 Series hybrid video recorder (HVR) upgrade and recovery manual describes how to re-image your DX8100 server. Use this procedure to upgrade the DX8100 software to a higher version or to recover the current DX8100 server operating system and application software. Upgrading the DX8100 Server Table A lists the available upgrade scenarios. Table A. Upgrade Scenarios Current Upgrade DX8100 v1.0 with Windows 2000 DX8100 v1.1 or v1.2 with Windows 2000 DX8100 v1.1 with Windows 2000 DX8100 v1.2 with Windows 2000 DX8100 v1.1 with Windows XP Embedded DX8100 v1.2 or v2.0 with Windows XP Embedded DX8100 v1.2 with Windows XP Embedded DX8100 v2.0 with Windows XP Embedded DX8100 v1.0, v1.1, or v1.2 with Windows 2000 DX8100 v2.0 with Windows XP Embedded * *Requires operating system upgrade Before you upgrade the DX8100 software, note the following: Make sure you have the DX8100 Recovery disc for the new version of the software. If upgrading from a Windows 2000 unit to v2.0, make sure the DX8100 Recovery disc includes the new Windows XP Embedded license. Then perform the re-image procedure (refer to Re-image the DX8100 Server on page 3). C2640M-C (7/09) 2

3 RECOVERING THE DX8100 SERVER OPERATING SYSTEM AND APPLICATION SOFTWARE Table B lists the available recovery scenarios. Table B. Recovery Scenarios DX8100 v1.1 or v1.2 with Windows 2000 DX8100 v1.1, v1.2, or v2.0 with Windows XP Embedded Before you recover the DX8100 server operating system and application software, note the following: Make sure you have the current DX8100 Recovery disc. Perform the re-image procedure (refer to Re-image the DX8100 Server). RE-IMAGE THE DX8100 SERVER NOTES: When you upgrade or recover the software, the current DX8100 settings are erased. Perform all three steps to save and restore the settings. DX8100 version 2.0 supports a new user name (admin) and password (admin). If you import settings from an earlier version, the user name and password will be changed. To re-image the DX8100 server: 1. If saving current settings: Export the DX8100 settings (refer to Export Procedure on page 4). This procedure backs up your camera properties, schedules, and user configurations. 2. Re-image the unit using the DX8100 recovery procedure (refer to DX8100 Recovery Instructions on page 5). This procedure installs the unit s operating system and DX8100 application software from the DX8100 Recovery disc. 3. If saving current settings: Import the DX8100 settings (refer to Import Procedure on page 6). This step imports the camera properties, schedules, and user configurations that were backed up in step 1. VIEWING VIDEO OR CLIENT SOFTWARE UPGRADES OVER A NETWORK IMPORTANT: If you encounter a problem viewing video or upgrading the client software over the network from a DX8100 server, try disabling IPSec on the DX8100 server and the remote computer. If this resolves the problem, then leave IPSec disabled. Be advised that disabling IPSec security services will expose your DX8100 Series HVR to potentially damaging network traffic. For information on how to protect the unit from harmful network traffic, contact your network administrator. If this problem only affects the client update, enable IPSec again after the upgrade is complete. It is highly recommended that IPSec security be enabled at all times for the protection of the system. 3 C2640M-C (7/09)

4 Upgrade and Recovery Procedure EXPORT PROCEDURE RECORDING DX8100 NETWORK SETTINGS 1. Click the Setup icon. 2. Click the Network icon and record the following: DX8100 IP address:. Subnet mask:. Default gateway address:. Obtain an IP Address Automatically is: Checked Unchecked. Record the multicast group IP address. EXPORTING THE SETTINGS 1. Insert a USB key into a USB port on the DX8100 front panel. 2. Click Edit > Export Setup. 3. Double-click the drive assigned to your USB key. 4. Type a name for your backup file in the File name text box, and then click Save. The DX8100 exports the settings to the USB key. NOTE: Allow 60 seconds for the export process to finish to ensure that all of the DX8100 settings are exported. Then continue with the next step. 5. Remove the USB device: a. From the DX8100 menu, click File > Unplug/Eject Hardware. The Unplug or Eject Hardware dialog box opens. b. Click Stop. The Stop a Hardware device dialog box opens. c. Select the USB device to which the DX8100 settings are exported. d. Click OK. The Safe to Remove Hardware dialog box opens. e. Click OK. f. Click Close. g. Unplug the USB key. RECORDING IP SECURITY SETTINGS 1. Click File > Exit. The Shut down dialog box opens. 2. Select Exit to Windows and then OK. The Log On to Windows dialog box opens. 3. Enter the Windows password and then click OK. The system logs into the Windows operating system. 4. Click the Start button. 5. Click Programs > Manage IPSec Policy. 6. Record the status of Enable IP Security Policy: Checked Unchecked 7. Click Cancel to exit. C2640M-C (7/09) 4

5 DX8100 RECOVERY INSTRUCTIONS 1. Install the DX8100 software image. a. Insert the DX8100 Recovery disc into the DVD drive. b. Restart the DX8100. c. Enter the BIOS by pressing the Delete key when the Pelco splash screen is displayed. d. Go to the boot menu and select Boot Device Priority and then highlight CD/DVD. e. Press the plus sign (+) or minus sign (-) until CD/DVD appears first in the list. f. Press F10 and then select OK to save your changes and exit. The DX8100 will restart and prompt you by displaying Press any key to boot from CD. NOTE: This prompt is displayed for only a few seconds. If missed, the unit will not boot from the DX8100 Recovery disc. g. Press the Space bar. When the loading process completes, the End User License Agreement dialog box opens. h. Do one of the following: Click Accept to accept the licensing terms. The Warning screen is displayed. Click Cancel. i. Type Yes in the text box to agree to the recovery procedure, and then click Proceed. j. Click Exit after the clone process is completed to restart the DX Restore the BIOS to the proper boot setting. a. Enter the BIOS by pressing the Delete key when the Pelco splash screen is displayed. b. Go to the boot menu and select Boot Device Priority, and then highlight SATA. c. Press the plus sign (+) or minus sign (-) until SATA appears first in the list. 3. Eject the DX8100 Recovery disc. 4. Press F10 and then select OK to save changes and exit. The DX8100 will reboot and the PDB Initialize dialog appears. You are prompted to initialize the hard disks for use with the DX8100 database. In some cases, the System Settings Change dialog box also appears. NOTE: You are prompted to initialize the hard disks for use with the DX8100 database. 5. If the PDB Initialize and System Settings Change dialogs both appear, click Yes. The unit restarts and the PDB Initialize dialog box appears. 6. If only the PDB Initialize dialog appears: a. Click Cancel. The Log On to Windows dialog box opens. b. Enter the Windows operating system user name. (The default user name is DX8100ADM.) c. Enter the Windows operating system password. (The default password is dx8100.) d. Click OK. The system logs on to the Windows operating system. e. Click Start. f. Click Shut Down. The Shut Down Windows dialog box opens. g. Select Restart from the drop-down menu. h. Click OK. The DX8100 restarts. 7. Click the plus (+) sign beside the PDB Group ID box to expand the tree. If you are updating an existing system and you want to save previously recorded video, select Recovery on the PDB Group ID box. All of the boxes should be yellow and Used should be selected on the individual drives.. This step saves your recorded video. If you are installing this system for the first time, make sure to select Allocation on each of the individual disk drives in the tree. This step erases all data on all drives. 8. Click Begin Allocation to start the database initialization. Depending on the drive configuration, the DX8100 can take up to 60 minutes to initialize the database and begin operation. NOTE: When the DX8100 application window appears, the database initialization is complete. 9. As soon as the database initialization is complete, verify the date, time, and time zone settings. This ensures that video is being recorded at the correct date and time. 5 C2640M-C (7/09)

6 IMPORT PROCEDURE ENTERING NETWORKING SETTINGS NOTE: Only perform this procedure if Obtain an IP Address Automatically was not checked. 1. From the DX8100 toolbar, click the Setup icon. 2. In the Setup dialog box, click Network. 3. Deselect the Obtain an IP Address Automatically option. 4. Type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway address that you previously recorded. 5. If applicable, enter the multicast group IP address. IMPORTING THE SETTINGS 1. Insert the USB Key into a USB port on the DX8100 front panel. 2. Click Edit > Import Setup. 3. Double-click the last drive on the list. This is your USB Key. 4. Locate the backup file you previously created, and then click Open. Your previously backed up settings will now be imported into your new installation. NOTE: Allow 60 seconds for the import process to finish to ensure that all of the DX8100 settings are imported. Then continue with the next step. 5. Remove the USB device: a. From the DX8100 menu, click File > Unplug/Eject Hardware. The Unplug or Eject Hardware dialog box opens. b. Click Stop. The Stop a Hardware device dialog box opens. c. Select the USB device to which the DX8100 settings are exported. d. Click OK. The Safe to Remove Hardware dialog box opens. e. Click OK. f. Click Close. g. Unplug the USB key. CONFIGURING IP SECURITY SETTINGS NOTE: For DX8100 version 2.0, the IP Security Policy is disabled by default. 1. To enable IPSec: a. Click File > Exit. The Shut down dialog box opens. b. Select Exit to Windows Mode from the drop-down menu. The Log On to Windows dialog box opens. c. Enter the Windows operating system user name. (The default user name is DX8100ADM.) d. Enter the Windows operating system password. (The default password is dx8100.) e. Click OK. The system logs on to the Windows operating system. 2. When in the Windows operating system environment: a. Click Start on the Windows operating system taskbar. b. Click Programs > Manage IPSec Policy. The DX8100 IPSec Policy dialog box opens. c. Click the Enable IP Security check box to select to enable IPSec. d. Click OK. 3. Restart the DX8100: a. Click Start. b. Click Shut Down. The Shut Down Windows dialog box opens. c. Select Restart from the drop-down menu. d. Click OK. The DX8100 restarts. C2640M-C (7/09) 6
