1 Johnson County Community College Transfer Program to the University of Kansas Edwards Campus B.A.S. in Biotechnology Catalog Contact: Sandra Leppin, Academic Advisor Phone: (913) Web: The Associate of Arts degree (A.A.) at JCCC is a general transfer degree and partners well with the first two years of most bachelor degree programs. Students pursuing the A.A. may select courses that satisfy both the A.A. degree requirements and lower division requirements for a bachelor s degree at four-year institutions. The elective hours within the A.A. allows students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. The A.A. degree requires completion of 64 credit hours, the maximum number of hours from a community college that will be applied toward a bachelor s degree at most four-year schools. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of appropriate courses The Bachelor of Applied Science in Biotechnology is designed for individuals who are seeking degrees or training that will enhance their professional qualifications and laboratory skills. The program will consist of managerial skills and hands-on learning built into the biotechnology program that greatly increases the career opportunities for graduates. Students will be prepared for life-science professions that require management and communication skills, as well as specific laboratory skills sets and first hand experience working with scholars in the Kansas City area. The program is geared for students who already have earned an Associates degree or equivalent hours and are looking to complete the last two years necessary for a Bachelor s Degree. Most courses in the program will be offered in the evening at the KU Edwards Campus, allowing students to work full time without relocating and still complete the Bachelor s Degree requirements in a timely manner. Student are admitted for fall, spring or summer semesters. In-state applicants must have at least 24 credit hours with a 2.0 or higher GPA from a Kansas community college, Kansas college or university. Out-of-state applicants must have at least 24 credit hours with a 2.5 or higher GPA from a community college or another regionally accredited college or university. The standard KU application for admission is used for undergraduate programs at the KU Edwards Campus. For application deadlines and university admissions requirements, see and Transfer Credit Only grades of C or better are accepted in transfer toward a degree in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Students should be aware that 45 junior/senior credit hours are required for completion of the bachelor s degree and community college courses do not transfer as junior/senior hours. Updated 5/15
