1 Johnson County Community College Transfer Program to the University of Kansas School of the Arts Department of Visual Art (B.F.A s) Ceramics, Textile Design, Expanded Media, Metalsmithing/Jewelry, Printmaking, Sculpture, Drawing/Painting Catalog Contact: University Advising Phone: Home Page: The Associate of Arts degree (A.A.) at JCCC is a general transfer degree and partners well with the first two years of most bachelor degree programs. Students pursuing the A.A. may select courses that satisfy both the A.A. degree requirements and lower division requirements for a bachelor s degree at four-year institutions. The 33 hours of electives within the A.A. allows students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. The A.A. degree requires completion of 64 credit hours, the maximum number of hours from a community college that will be applied toward a bachelor s degree at most four-year schools. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of appropriate courses. A portfolio and three short essays are required for admission to Visual Art. Information regarding these additional application materials can be found at Minimum 120 credit hours (45 at Jr./Sr. level) All entering students in Visual Arts are required to participate in a foundation curriculum offered through the Foundations program before enrolling in advanced art or design studio courses. Freshmen complete Introduction to Drawing I and II and Introduction to Design I and II before enrolling in advanced art or design studio courses. Freshmen typically enroll in these classes along with English, two semesters of Art History, and other Liberal Arts Electives. Transfer students who begin in the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters have until July 31, 2015 to opt out of the KU Core requirements. After that, they may not opt out. Transfer students who begin in the Summer 2015 term have until December 31, 2015 to opt out. Transfer students who begin in Fall 2015 and beyond will not be able to opt out of the KU Core. NOTE: Classes may count for a major requirement and a core requirement but may NOT count for 2 different core requirements.
