1 Central New Mexico Community College Associate of Arts in Teacher Education, Elementary Concentration and New Mexico Highlands University Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education Transfer Agreement Fall 2015 Summer 2016 Students completing the Associate of Arts in Teacher Education, Elementary Concentration at Central New Mexico Community College can apply those credits and courses directly toward the Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education at New Mexico Highlands University. Upon completion of the coursework prescribed within this transfer agreement, students will have earned an A.A. in Teacher Education; Elementary Concentration, transfer to NMHU as a classified junior, complete appropriate prerequisites for Junior standing in the B.A. in Elementary Education degree program, and have the NMHU institutional Physical Education and Language Competency core requirements waived. In addition, the remaining requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education can be completed at NMHU s Rio Rancho Campus. 5 Important Notes to Students: 1. Admissions. Complete Admission to the School of Education on Chalk and Wire. 2. Licensure. All Elementary Education Licensure Students must confer with an Elementary Education Advisor in selecting the Elementary Education content field. 3. NES (National Evaluation Series). Students must pass the NES Basic Skills to be admitted to the School of Education. 4. Students must pass the NES Content Knowledge - Elementary Exam to be admitted to Field Base III. 5. Students must take the NES Essential Components of Elementary Reading Instruction Test before or during Field Base II in order to be admitted to Field Base III. 6. All new teachers seeking to be licensed by the New Mexico Public Education Department in Elementary Education will be required to pass the NES Essential Components of Elementary Reading Instruction Test (Effective July 1, 2013). (NOT REQUIRED F GRADUATION) 7. Students must pass the Teacher Competency section of the NES to receive New Mexico Teacher Licensure in Elementary Education thru the New Mexico Public Education Department. (NOT REQUIRED F GRADUATION) 8. Students are encouraged to take GNED 210 Test Preparation. 9. Courses listed above do not reflect the sequence in which they should be taken.
