14 Summary, conclusions! The anthropogenic enhancement of greenhouse gas concentrations is beyond any doubt! The important role of greenhouse gases in the earth's climate is well-understood! It is very likely that continuation of greenhouse gas emissions at present pace will cause a substantial climate warming within a century! Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions is absolutely necessary to prevent too large, too rapid climate change! The responses of the carbon cycle to the ever-increasing burden of fossil fuel CO 2 need to be understood quantitatively! Summary, conclusions! The step from radiative forcing to climate effects is the most complicated one! However, there is almost complete consensus towards global warming! Climate is (unfortunately) reacting as a feed forward system to radiative forcing!

15 Finally: Some words about climate sceptics! "In the past there have been eras with over 500 ppm CO 2! The present situation is therefore not alarming at all"! Those were eras with a totally different climate regime"! The CO 2 -concentration increase is natural, and is not caused by fossil fuel combustion at all! Sure, and Aids is no viral disease! There are so many effects that infuence climate, those greenhouse gases are not important whatsoever! All right: cigarettes do not cause lung cancer, because asbestos does that! Warming? What warming? 1998 has been the warmest year gloablly, and since then climate has stabilised again, while the greenhouse gases kept on increasing! Wait till the next big El Niño! By the way, solar activity is probably approaching a long year minimum! The last slide! I don t believe in global warming..! Is all climate scepticism nonsense?!! No: serious remarks about:!- importance aerosols!!!!!- complicated role of clouds!!!!!- role of the sun!! But these are all incorporated in the peer-reviewed literature, and in the IPCC process! and thus not climate scepticism, but science.!
