5 DOL First Major Cloud Initiative: Cloud Benefits: as expected. More capability for same mailbox cost. Implementation went very smoothly 2% failure rate. Challenges: Not in NIST Roadmap - getting DOL ready for Cloud Operational Readiness Test Delay - changes needed to 9 networks DOL-Wide needed to upgrade Bandwidth Agency Desktop Readiness In the Roadmap Clearly Defined Services & SLAs - Roles and Responsibilities for Customer, Integrator & Service Provider Interoperabilty not just with Cloud Services Goal Out of the Box Cloud delivered the following improvements: #1 ranked request from 2011 listening tour (26 agencies, 6 regions, 300+ staff in interviews & focus groups, 5,895 survey responses): 1) Mailbox storage size increases from 200MB to 50GB = 400 times old limit 2) Unlimited archiving, 3) Increased attachment size capability, 4) Freed-up DOL storage Unique Government Requirements security; 508 disability access Organization Policy primarily record keeping & security Others are more strategic DOL didn t hit those in our application 5

6 Next Step DOL Cloud Services Target Digital Government Integrated Platform (DGIP) Goal: to build an integrated DOL Digital Government platform that can be used by agencies to build and deploy applications that support the federal digital government goals related to sharing data and mobile computing public interactions. Initiative emerged through analysis of agency FY 2015 IT budget requests (in 2013) nearly all agencies proposed common IT capabilities to support digital government data sharing & mobile computing. The cost of proposed individual agency efforts were significantly greater than the estimated cost of the centralized DGIP proposal. The platform is not a monolithic internal centralized platform and infrastructure it s a set of integrated enterprise services (shared, in-sourced/outsourced, cloud/non-cloud). Benefits: Positions DOL to achieve its goal of transforming into a 21 st Century organization by making these capabilities available to all DOL agencies, large and small; Allows DOL to achieve cost efficiencies through enterprise services and reduces IT costs for individual agencies by solving integration requirements one time (major IT cost driver); Enables DOL to better leverage human resources through use of consistent IT services. Expect: the interoperability and performance roadmap requirements will be a greater factor. 6
