Students should have their textbook by the first week of class. Not having your textbook is not an acceptable excuse for late work. Students who add this course late should refer to the Late Registration section for further guidance. The official bookstore for Troy University is Barnes and Noble (B&N). Students can now order textbooks within Blackboard, Trojan Web Express or on the B&N website at For further instructions on how to order your course materials go to How to Order Textbooks. 3 All assignments and case studies must be to the Blackboard classroom; by midnight, Central Time (CT) on the due date. Late Work: All work is due by midnight (CT) of the deadline date, unless stated otherwise. Make-Up Work Policy If a student is assigned duty that takes him/her away from a computer (military or civilian), the student must notify the instructor prior to leaving. If the instructor does not hear from the student before s/he leaves, it will be assumed that the work is late. It is rare that a student does not have advance warning that they will be away. Any work that is not submitted by the due date or the student has not contacted the instructor to arrange an extension will lose 10% (one letter grade) per day that the assignment is late. Missing any part of this schedule may prevent completion of the course. If you foresee difficulty of any type (e.g., an illness, employment change, etc.) which may prevent completion of this course, notify the instructor as soon as possible. Failure to do so will result in failure for an assignment and/or failure of the course. (See Attendance Policy.) If I have not heard from you by the deadline dates for assignments, exams, or forums, no make-up work will be allowed (unless extraordinary circumstances exist, such as hospitalization). Requests for extensions must be made in advance and accompanied by appropriate written documentation. Computer problems is not an acceptable excuse. Method of Evaluation Below the percent weights assigned to each gradeable item for this course. I have these weights attached to each item in your gradebook. You can track your course to date percent grade by looking in the Weighted Column in your gradebook. Percent Weights: Discussion Board Participation 18% (2.25% per week) Syllabus Assignment 1% Written Assignments 8% (4% per assignment) Connect Assignments 16% (4% per assignment) Writing Assessment 5% Quizzes 32% (4% per quiz) Final Exam 20% Grade Scale based on points: % A 80 89% B 70 70% C 60 69% D 0 59% F Specific Course Requirements (See Course Schedule at end of Syllabus for due dates) Assigned Readings: Complete all assigned readings before the class discussion to which it corresponds. Borowski Page 3

4 Attendance & Participation: Attendance is covered by your activity on the Discussion Boards each week and is 50% of the participation grade. The other 50% of the participation grade is based on the quality of contributions to the Discussion Boards. See the Discussion Board Participation Requirements document posted in the Start Here section of the classroom. Syllabus Assignment: By the end of Week One, you will be required to acknowledge that you have read and understand the syllabus. Post your acknowledgement and any questions you may have in the Q&A discussion board forum. Written/Homework Assignments: There will be three written/homework assignments in this course. Connect Assignments: There will be four Connect assignments in this course. Please see the posted information about accessing Connect in the Course Information section of the classroom. Quizzes: Each week you will have a weekly quiz based on that week s chapter readings. Examinations: There will be a comprehensive final exam in this course. Examination Schedule and Instructions QUIZZES: You will have a weekly (weeks 1 8) quiz based on that week s chapter readings. Each quiz will consist of 15 multiple-choice questions, worth 2 points each, you will have 30 minutes to complete the quiz and it is open book. The quizzes are designed to test your specific knowledge in the subject areas. Therefore, it strongly suggested that you thoroughly read, outline, or utilize whatever method you feel appropriate for learning the material. FINAL EXAM: The comprehensive final exam is designed to test your knowledge in all of the subject areas. Therefore, it strongly suggested that you thoroughly read, outline, or utilize whatever method you feel appropriate for learning the material in a comprehensive manner. The final exam will consist of 60 questions (a combination of True/False and Multiple-Choice). Each question is worth 2 points, you will have 1 ½ hours to complete the exam and it is open book. PROCTORED EXAM: The final exam requires a proctor. The final exam will be taken during week 9 of the term. You are responsible for choosing an acceptable proctor and submitting the online proctor form to etroy before this exam begins. Instructions for doing so may be found at or under the Proctor Info button in Blackboard. All questions about the proctor form or proctor options should be directed to etroy. Contact info is available at the posted link. The exams will be delivered online via Blackboard. They will be found in the Assessments section. The exams will be timed. Points will be deducted if the student overruns the time limit for the exam. Late Registration Registration During The First Week of the Term If you register during the first week of the term, you will already be one week behind. If you fall into this category are expected to catch up with all of Week #1 and Week #2's work by the end of Week #2. No exceptions, since two weeks constitutes a significant percentage of the term's lessons. If you do not feel you meet this deadline you should not enroll in the class. If you have registered, you should see your registrar, academic adviser, GoArmyEd or Military Education officer to discuss your options. Also note that late registration may mean you do not receive your book in time to make up the work you missed in Week #1. Not having your book on the first day of class is not an excuse for late work after the deadlines in the Course Schedule. Borowski Page 4

5 Incomplete Grade Policy Missing any part of the Course Schedule may prevent completion of the course. If circumstances will prevent the student from completing the course by the end of the term, the student must complete a request for an incomplete grade. Note: A grade of Incomplete, I, is not automatically assigned to students, but rather must be requested by the student by submitting a Petition for and Work to Remove an Incomplete Grade Form. Requests for an incomplete grade must be made on or before the date of the final assignment or test of the term. A grade of I does not replace an F and will not be awarded for excessive absences. An I will only be awarded to a student presenting a valid case for the inability to complete coursework by the conclusion of the term. It is ultimately the instructor s decision to grant or deny a request for an incomplete grade, subject to the policy rules below: Policy/Rules for granting an Incomplete (I): The student must request that an incomplete be issued. The student s progress in the course must be satisfactory at the time of the request (e.g. the student must be passing the course), but is unable to complete the course grading requirements because of documented circumstances beyond his/her control. If both of the above criteria are not met an incomplete cannot be granted. An I is not a substitute for an F. If a student has earned an F by not submitting all the work or by receiving an overall F average, then the F stands. TROY All students were required to obtain and use the TROY address that is automatically assigned to them as TROY students. All official correspondence (including bills, statements, s from instructors and grades, etc.) will be sent ONLY to the troy.edu (@troy.edu) address. All students are responsible for ensuring that the correct address is listed in Blackboard by the beginning of Week One. is the only way the instructor can, at least initially, communicate with you. It is your responsibility to make sure a valid address is provided. Failure on your part to do so can result in your missing important information that could affect your grade. Your troy.edu address is the same as your Web Express user ID following Students are responsible for the information that is sent to their TROY account. You can get to your account by logging onto the course and clicking . This is an online class. Students must have access to a working computer and access to the Internet. Students can use a TROY computer lab (if available), a public library, etc., to insure they have access. Not having a computer or computer crashes are not acceptable excuses for late work. Have a back-up plan in place in case you have computer problems. Borowski Page 5
