2 The 360 Degrees of Triumph Thermal Systems Case Studies: The 360 Degrees of Triumph Thermal Systems Page 2 Client Description. Triumph Thermal Systems, Inc. (TTS), a subsidiary of The Triumph Group, Inc, ( TGI) designs, develops, tests, and manufactures high-quality thermal management technologies for commercial and military customers worldwide. Triumph Group is a leading international aviation services company that designs, engineers, manufactures, distributes, repairs and overhauls aircraft components. The Challenge TTS had previously used a static Microsoft Excel-based peer feedback and annual review system that involved collecting data in eight separate worksheets. TTS experienced administrative difficulties and employee frustration with their annual process and recognized that employees were focusing more on completing the paperwork for what was perceived as an annual event than they were on the year-round quality control and process improvement goals 360 programs are designed to identify and facilitate. TTS sought a robust, low-cost, simple-to-implement on-line solution managers could use throughout the year to improve performance. SoftVu s Solution In moving TTS process online, SoftVu significantly streamlined the overall process, reducing the eight forms to two, helped define and simplify tasks for everyone at TTS, from HR to line employees, documented the entire process, and continues to improve the overall process. How the two forms work within the overall process, how data is collected and reported, and the benefits of SoftVu s system are all described below. 360 Peer Feedback Form SoftVu s Peer Feedback Form elicits Peer feedback from all TTS employees, collects the feedback into a single database and reports individual feedback to every employee, team feedback summaries to supervisors, and company feedback summaries to executives. Triumph Thermal HR initiates the peer feedback process by sending an to all employees asking for a list of employees (peers, subordinates, and superiors) to serve as raters. Supervisors review and approve each list, then HR sends the same link to all employees. Both supervisors and their employees use the same link and the same form. The form creates a new record each time it s accessed and uses conditional paging (also known as skip logic) to show only the benchmark ratings that apply for the person (either a Team Member or a Team Leader ) being rated on the form. 2

Clicking the Rating link pops up the Competency Guideline for this benchmark Each benchmark includes a rating scale and room for comments. Reporting 360 Feedback SoftVu s 360 peer feedback solution provides flexibility in how the feedback is reported and used. TTS ties its 360 peer feedback into its performance review process supervisors use peer feedback to help develop personal goals and development activities. Other organizations collect and report feedback separately from formal performance reviews, providing employees periodic performance snapshots to help them understand how others view their performance, leaving performance reviews, individual goals and development plans employees and their supervisors. Instead of another dreaded annual chore like doing your income taxes or visiting the dentist, by streamlining and moving performance reviews online, TTS employees and supervisors can easily retrieve and update performance information throughout the year and make changes right away that can immediately improve performance. With the SoftVu review system, there s no reason to wait until it s too late to find out that performance is lower than expected... or, conversely, to reassure employees that their performance is up to par or beyond. SoftVu s web-based platform is easy to use and allows us the flexibility of performing reviews from any Internet connection anyplace/anytime. SoftVu ties each individual review to a unique link generated by SoftVu s Relay communication platform these and other technologies help make the paperwork part of the process more transparent which helps TTS managers and employees focus on fulfilling individual, departmental, and organizational goals a year-round focus rather than focusing on completing a yearly paperwork chore.
