3 CAMP FLEX OPTIONS: Need 1 Week Here? 2 Weeks There? At the Y, we offer 3-week session blocks because we find that consistency helps kids form friendships, advance their swim skills, and experience everything our Summer Day Camps have to offer. That said, we know how busy families can be during the summer and if you need more flexibility, we re here to help. If you d like to purchase summer camp weeks a la carte, just come in and let us know which weeks work for your family. Please be aware that to take advantage of flexible scheduling, you must register in person. Space may be limited. Flexible scheduling is offered based on camp capacity: children who are part of our 3-week sessions have priority on all off-campus trips. Restrictions that may apply: Discounts not applicable Flex-fare available for 5 days a week programs only Trips may be missed Flex Fare rates will not be adjusted for new/additional registrations. 4 KIDDIE KAMP This program is designed for the 3, 4 and 5 year old child. We provide a secure environment with a wide range of activities geared toward the preschool camper. Activities include: swimming lessons, arts & crafts, bouncy houses, challenge course activities, story time and much more. Children are grouped according to age when possible. Snack and drink are provided for the full day campers. Children eligible for Kiddie Kamp must be toilet trained. Staff/camper ratio is 1:5. (Groups are Co-ed) YOUTH CAMP Children completed grades K-3 This program encourages campers to have fun while participating in group activities that develop creativity. Swimming lessons, recreational swimming, theme days, arts & crafts, various sports, special events, challenge course activities and so much more are provided. (Children are grouped according to grade.) SPORTS CAMP Children completed grades 1-6 Sports Camp creates an environment for those campers who are athletically enthusiastic. The program will focus largely on skill development in all major and non-major sports. The focus of sports camp will not be on winning but on having fun, and fostering teamwork, respect and good sportsmanship. Our experienced sports camp team will work on skills pertaining to different sports daily. Through clinics, guest speakers and tournaments, campers will get a better understanding of sports and sportsmanship. Campers will also swim & use the high ropes course. YMCA at Glen Cove Summer Day Camp

5 JUNIOR TRAVEL CAMP Children completed grades 4-6 Junior Travel Camp is modeled after our Teen Travel Camp. This camp has two major areas of concentration: The first area will be participating in our many camp activities (swimming, high ropes, outdoor sports, arts & crafts, etc.). The second area of concentration will be traveling on various field trips 1 time a week. Some of the many field trips that we offer include beaches, museums, arcades, aquariums, bowling, roller/ice skating etc. This camp is designed to meet the growing needs of campers as they begin to mature. We hope that through character building, special activities (ran by specialist) and field trips that the campers will be able to develop new friendships and be excited for the eventual progression into Teen Travel Camp. On trip days buses will be leaving at 9am and will not be held for late campers. TEEN TRAVEL Children completed grades 7, 8, 9 and 15 years old Teens this year can expect up to 2 action-packed trips per week! The trips that we have planned this summer are guided towards helping teens work as a team, giving them a new appreciation for community service and allowing them to learn in new fun-filled environments. Teen Travel will give teens the opportunity to explore and find new passions, but most importantly, this camp will provide teens the opportunity to enjoy summer traveling while being treated as the young adults that they will soon become. On days that the camp will not be going on trips, the teens will be able to enjoy swimming, teen center, sports, arts & crafts and much more. Teen Travel will give teens a break from the everyday camp life and give them a platform to express themselves and establish lifelong friendships. On trip days buses will be leaving at 9am and will not be held for late campers. Once a week teens will be given the opportunity to be CIT s (Counselors In Training) as well as participating in community service events like car washes, bake sales, community clean ups and other events

6 TRANSPORTATION We are pleased to announce that Hendrickson Bus Company will continue to be our bus carrier this summer. They will provide transportation to several of the surrounding communities. We are able to serve the following communities with door-to-door transportation for the 2016 camp season. Bayville Brookville / Upper Brookville East Norwich / Oyster Bay East Williston Glen Cove Glen Head Glenwood Landing Greenvale / Roslyn Hicksville / Jericho Locust Valley Manhasset Port Washington Sea Cliff Syosset / Woodbury Westbury Don t see your town listed? Ask and we will try our Best! Pre-Registration is required. Transportation requests after March 31st are not guaranteed. A $50 deposit is required for each session. All 3-year-olds are required to have and provide a car seat on the bus. Transportation is not available for Half Day Campers. (The ride on the bus could be an hour plus.) IMAGINATION STATION the FUN way the Y builds literacy skills. The YMCA Imagination Station is an integral component of YMCA summer day camp and helps children prevent the summer slide, the phenomena where students tend to fall back in reading and comprehension during summer months as a result of not reading for three months. Every week, children are encouraged to use their imaginations to act out, draw or even cook what they have read. Thanks to the support of the Rauch Foundation the YMCA provides certified specialists who use an interactive and engaging curriculum created by our Literacy Cabinet for the camp season. Campers age 3 through grade 3 participate in Imagination Station. Children are assessed at the start of camp and at the end of camp

7 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. Swimming? There is a large amount of aquatic staff on duty during camp hours. For every twenty-five children in the pool, there is one lifeguard. Additionally, lessons are taught by qualified swim instructors with the assistance of your child s camp counselors. 2. Can I visit the camp to see my child? YES! Please call the camp office to set up an appointment. All visitors must report to the camp office and obtain a visitor s pass. All visitors must be escorted while on the campgrounds. 3. Are there members or strangers on the campgrounds while camp is in session? NO! Anyone who is not associated with the camp is not permitted on campgrounds during camp hours. When sighted, the staff is trained to escort members and strangers off the property. 4. Are children forced to participate in all activities? All children are encouraged to participate but are not forced. However, there are no alternative activities planned for children who do not participate in scheduled activities. 5. What happens when my child becomes sick or hurt? There is an EMT on site during camp hours. If your child is sick, please do not bring them to camp. If they became sick while attending camp, the EMT will notify you to pick your child up. All first aid visits are documented. If your child visits the first aid office, they will receive a notice that tells you why they were there and what care was given. Please look in your child s bag for this notice. You will be notified immediately of all serious injuries via telephone. This is why it is important to hand in an emergency card with the correct information. In the event of an emergency, local EMS will be contacted. 6. What if I arrive late with my child? Please bring your child to the camp office. One of the camp staff will escort your child to his or her group. Please do not try to find your child s group on your own. 7. What if I need to pick up my child early? Please notify the camp office before arrival on that day that your son/daughter will be picked up early. Please do not try to find your child on your own. All campers leaving early must be picked up before 3:30pm. 8. Is there a lost and found? YES! It is important that you label all belongings with your child s name so that we can return the items to your children. Additionally, please check the lost and found regularly.
