2 About the BlackBerry Enterprise Server The BlackBerry Enterprise Server helps system administrators centralize administration and control of mobile . Issues resolved in this release Third party applications now have faster access to global statistics updates. Messages that are queued during upgrading from one service pack to another are no longer lost. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server no longer forwards messages sent prior to the user being added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and subsequently modified (for example, by an archiver program). When users reply from the handheld to messages with flat names in the recipient list, they no longer receive a router delivery error for those recipients. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server has improved flat name recognition, and it no longer attempts to locate an SMTP address for users with flat names. When the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is unable to access a folder in a user s mail file, it no longer encounters an unrecoverable error that causes the Lotus Domino Server to stop responding. Instead, it writes a level 4 message, like the one shown below, to the debug log: Error processing folder 65414, for user CN=John Doe/O=ACME, error returned is Note item not found When the BlackBerry Enterprise Server forwards PIN-to-PIN messages, which contain no header information, via , it no longer stops responding with an Access Violation error. 3 System requirements The BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Software requires the following hardware and software components: Hardware Intel-compatible Pentium 2 or higher (233 MHz or higher, 128-MB RAM) 1 GB of free hard disk space 10-Mbps LAN connection Software The BlackBerry Enterprise Server and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server utilities require the following software on the computer on which they are installed: Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 or later Lotus Domino Server and Client, 4.6 or later Note: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server must be installed in the same Lotus Notes Named Network and Domino Domain as the Lotus Domino mail servers to be supported. Your corporate firewall must be able to resolve Internet addresses using the Domain Name Server (DNS). Firewall configuration The BlackBerry Enterprise Server initiates outbound connections to the wireless network. To support BlackBerry in a firewall environment, the firewall must be configured to enable computers within the company that are running the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to initiate TCP connections to an outside server listening on port If the firewall is a proxy-based firewall, the proxy must be transparent. Ensure that your firewall is configured to accommodate these types of connections. Note: A transparent proxy DOES NOT modify requests or responses through the proxy during proxy authentication and identification. However, a non-transparent proxy (in which the client specifies the host name and port number of the proxy) DOES modify requests or responses through the proxy. If you have a non-transparent proxy, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server can be configured to access an internal proxy address, which is then translated externally to the SRP Host on port BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Readme 3

4 Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software (includes Service Pack 4) If you have not already installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, follow these steps to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino. Note: To upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, refer to Upgrading existing BlackBerry Enterprise Server installations to service pack 4 on page 8 To remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, refer to Removing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software on page 10. Installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installs the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and its associated administrative tools. Install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software on the Lotus Domino Server that acts as the gateway to the wireless network. To install BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software 1. Download the service pack software to the computer that will run the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. 2. In the location that you specified during the download, open setup.exe to start the installation. A Welcome screen appears. 3. Click Next. The Select Your Country screen appears. 4. Select the country in which you purchased your license for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, and then click Next. The Software License Agreement screen appears. 5. Read the license agreement carefully; if you agree to its terms, click Yes. The Choose Setup Type screen appears. 6. To install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, select BlackBerry Server and Utilities. This option installs the BlackBerry Enterprise Server task and the administrator interface. Click Next. The first BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Setup screen appears. Note: For remote administation, you can install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server utilities on client computers. 7. In the System Attendant field, type the address of the system administrator. Use a valid address that can send and receive user alert or warning messages from the administrative program (BESAdmin). 4 BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Readme

5 8. Click Next to continue. The second BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Setup screen appears. 9. In the Connection to SRP section, type the following values: In the Host Name field, type the SRP Address (also referred to as SRP Host) provided with your SRP Information. The SRP Host connects to the wireless network. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server can be located anywhere on the LAN and route its TCP/IP traffic through the firewall or through a transparent proxy server. Note: A transparent proxy DOES NOT modify requests or responses through the proxy during proxy authentication and identification. However, a non-transparent proxy (in which the client specifies the host name and port number of the proxy) DOES modify requests or responses through the proxy. 6 In the Port field, the SRP Port, configured during the firewall configuration process, is set to 3101, and is typically not changed. This is an outbound-initiated connection. 10. Click Test Connection. The setup program performs a test to ensure that the server can connect to the SRP Host that you defined. If the test is successful, a dialog box appears, confirming that the server successfully connected to the network access node. Click OK to close the dialog box and continue the installation. If the test is not successful, a warning dialog box appears. Note the error message, and click OK to close the dialog box. Note: If the SRP test is not successful, you must stop the installation and correct the reason for the failure before you can restart the installation. Refer to Resolving connection errors on page 6 for a list of common errors and suggestions for resolving them. 11. In the SRP Authentication section, type the SRP Identifier and Authentication Key found on the installation CD label. These values are unique to each host license. Each BlackBerry Enterprise Server requires a unique SRP Identifier and SRP Authentication Key. Tip: To simplify installations, upgrades, and reinstallations, create a.txt file that contains your authentication key. You can use this.txt file to copy the key and paste it into the Authentication Key field. Keep this file in a secure directory. 12. Click Next. The Choose Destination Location screen appears. 13. Ensure that the destination path is correct and click Next. Note: The default path for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\ 14. On the Select Program Folder dialog box, verify that the correct folder is selected and click Next to complete the installation. When the installation is complete, a confirmation window appears. 15. Click Finish. Resolving connection errors The table below describes the errors most commonly encountered if the Test Connection portion of your installation fails, and you do not connect successfully to the defined SRP Host. 6 BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Readme

7 Error Connection refused Connection reset by peer Connection timed out Connection to Network Access Node was successful Could not run BBSRPTest Disconnect Host is down Description No connection could be made because the target computer actively refused it. Either the SRP server is not running, or more likely, the firewall prevented the connection from being completed. To resolve this error, check with your firewall administrator to ensure that an outbound connection from the computer that you are using to SRPHost on port 3101 is allowed. This message indicates that the connection was broken by the firewall or proxy before the test program could connect with the SRP server. To resolve this error, check with your firewall administrator to ensure that an outbound connection from the computer that you are using to SRPHost on port 3101 is allowed. This message indicates that the connection request is not being answered, or that the firewall has lost the connection request. If your firewall has been configured to proxy connections on port 3101 to SRPHost, try testing the connection using the proxy to connect. To test using the proxy, open the command prompt and change to the CD-ROM drive. From the Tools directory, type: bbsrptest IPAddress where IPAddress is the internal IP address of the firewall or proxy server through which you are trying to connect. The program tries to connect to SRPHost, send a test packet, and receive a response. After you receive the Successful message, you are ready to begin your installation. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server successfully connected to the Network Access Node. You can proceed with the installation. The installer could not run BBSRPTest. The relay disconnected the connection attempt. The destination host was not responding. This condition is more likely to be indicated by the error Connection timed out. 8 Error Host not found No route to host This is a non-recoverable error Description This message indicates that DNS cannot locate the SRPHost address. To resolve this error, ensure that your DNS settings are correct on the computer that you are using, and then, at the command prompt, type: ping SRPHOST You should receive an IP resolution on the name (the ping will not be returned). If you do not, correct your DNS settings. There is a DNS entry for the host, but the host cannot be reached. This condition is more likely to be indicated by the error Connection timed out. This message indicates that a non-recoverable error occurred during a database lookup. This may be because the database files (for example, BSD-compatible HOSTS, SERVICES or PROTOCOLS files) could not be found, or a DNS request was returned by the server with a severe error. Upgrading existing BlackBerry Enterprise Server installations to service pack 4 Upgrading the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software also upgrades the administrative utilities installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer. When you upgrade BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, you should also upgrade the BESAdmin and BESAlert software on any computers used for remote BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration. Note: Refer to Removing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software on page 10 for information on removing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. To upgrade BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software 1. Download the service pack software to the computer that runs the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. 2. In the location that you specified during the download, open setup.exe to start the upgrade. A Welcome screen appears. 3. Click Next. The Select Your Country screen appears. 4. Select the country in which you purchased your license for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, and then click Next. 9 5. Read the license agreement carefully; if you agree with its terms, click Yes. The first BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Setup screen appears. 6. In the System Attendant field, confirm the address of the system administrator. 7. Click Next to continue. The second BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Setup screen appears. 8. Confirm the values, and click Next. The installer performs the upgrade operation. When the upgrade is complete, a confirmation screen appears. 9. Click Finish. 10 Removing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software 1. To shut down the Lotus Domino Server, in the Lotus Domino Server console, type quit 2. To remove the Blackberry Enterprise Server, on the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. An Add/Remove window appears. 3. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties window, select BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino and click Add/Remove (Windows NT) or Change/Remove (Windows 2000). A Confirm File Deletion dialog box appears. 4. Click OK to remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software. A confirmation window appears when all programs have been successfully removed. 5. Click Finish. Note: Removing the application does not remove the user configuration and message queue databases. If you want to remove these items as well, they are located in the BES folder in the Lotus Domino Server data directory. Included in your software Note: If any of the components listed below are missing, contact technical support (see About the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on page 2). BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software and additional tools The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software includes the following components: nbes.exe: the Lotus Domino Server add-in task that redirects from the user's Lotus Notes mailbox to the BlackBerry handheld BESMonitor.exe: the program that shows the current status of any BlackBerry Enterprise Server BESAdmin.exe: the program that enables administrators to manage users on any BlackBerry Enterprise Server BESAlert.exe: the program that monitors the Windows NT Event Log and can be configured to send notification to defined users when specified event levels are logged policy.inf: can be used to change the default settings for users' desktop software ITPolicy.exe: used in conjunction with the policy.inf file to generate a scrambled policy.bin file that is used to configure users' desktop software default settings Command line utility 10 BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino Readme

11 BBSRPTest.exe: tests the SRP connection to the wireless network SRP authentication values The following values are provided with your SRP Authentication Information: SRP Address: used to establish the outbound connection to the wireless network SRP Identifier: uniquely identifies the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the wireless network SRP Authentication Key: used, with the SRP Identifier, to authenticate outbound connectivity Note: This document is provided for informational purposes only, and does not constitute a binding legal document.
