4 academic scholarships The College provides Academic Scholarships based on results of Academic Testing conducted by an external agency. This testing is usually held in March/April annually. Academic Scholarships are available to students entering Year 5 - Year 12 who would like to continue or complete the remainder of their education at Scotch Oakburn College. Academic Scholarships are provided to students already attending Scotch Oakburn College as well as to those who are not. The method of selection will be as follows: Register on-line to participate in the examinations. Completion of examinations. Consideration of all results by the Interview of shortlisted applicants by the A copy of the student s most recent school report is also requested to be brought to the interview. It is understood that the student will complete his/her secondary education at the College and that the scholarship will generally apply until the end of Year 12. 5 performing arts scholarships Established in 2003 to coincide with the opening of the Performing Arts Centre, this scholarship is offered to students who show potential in one or more of the following areas: Music Drama Dance The scholarship will be awarded to a student: who has demonstrated outstanding ability in the Performing Arts, and who will play an active role in our College community. The scholarship is for up to 50% of tuition fees and boarding fees (where applicable), if the student intends to board at the College and can be for a limited term. The scholarship is for students either currently attending or entering the College, from Year 6 to Year 12. Applicants may be invited to attend an audition, based on their application form and recent school reports. Awards are provided on the basis that progress and behaviour are satisfactory and there is a full and willing participation in the life of the College, including the Performing Arts co-curricular program. The understanding is that the student will complete his/her secondary schooling to at least the duration of the scholarship award at Scotch Oakburn College. The method of selection will be as follows: Completion of the Scholarship Application form. If selected for an audition, this will be arranged with either the Director of Music, Director of Drama or Dance Teacher. Interview with the Principal or Heads of Schools, Offer of scholarships by the S c o t c h O a k b u r n C o l l e g e - S c h o l a r s h i p s 5
6 visual arts scholarships The Visual Arts Scholarship is available to students entering Year 11. These scholarships are open to students who show potential in one or more of the following areas: Painting Mixed Media Print Making Photography Drawing Sculpture The scholarship will be awarded to a student: who has demonstrated outstanding ability in one or more of the above disciplines, and who will play an active role in our College community. The scholarship is for up to 50% of tuition fees and boarding fees (where applicable), if the student intends to board at the College and will be for two years. Successful applicants will also be required to study a TCE art elective, and donate a major piece of work to the College art collection at the conclusion of their studies. The method of selection will be as follows: Completion of the Scholarship Application form. Include a portfolio of the students artwork, highlighting a minimum of three pieces. Interview with the Principal or Head of Senior School. Offer of scholarships by the S c o t c h O a k b u r n C o l l e g e - S c h o l a r s h i p s 6
7 alec campbell scholarships In April 2004 the College announced a new scholarship in the name of one of its most celebrated past students, Alec Campbell. The Alec Campbell Scholarship is available to students entering Year 11 who would like to complete their secondary education at Scotch Oakburn College. The scholarship will be awarded to one boy and one girl: who are not already attending the College, who are currently in Year 10, who are good all-rounders and demonstrate an enthusiasm for study, and The method of selection will be as follows: Completion of the Scholarship Application form. Short essay by the student entitled What the Anzac spirit means to me. ( words) Consideration of all applications by the Interview of shortlisted applicants by the Offer of scholarships by who have the ability and inclination to play an active role in our College community. The scholarship is for 75% of tuition fees and 75% of boarding fees, if the student intends to board at the College. The scholarship will commence at Year 11 and is tenable for two years. 8 kathleen thomas scholarships These scholarships are funded in part by the Scotch Oakburn College Foundation as a result of a bequest from the late Kathleen Thomas, a bequest from an anonymous donor and Scotch Oakburn College. The scholarship is available for students entering Year 4 to Year 12 and is tenable for two years only (but term offered is at the discretion of the Principal). The scholarship will be awarded to a student: who is not already attending the College, who demonstrates a sound academic standard, together with interest and achievement in other aspects of school life, who may not otherwise be able to attend the College for financial reasons, and who has the ability and inclination to be part of our active College community. The scholarship is for up to 50% of tuition fees and boarding fees (where applicable), if the student intends to board at the College and will be for two years. The method of selection will be as follows: Completion of the Scholarship Application form. 10 *scotch oakburn collegians bursaries The Bursary will be known as the Scotch Oakburn Collegians Bursary. The Bursary will be awarded to the child (or grandchild): of a past scholar of either the present or founding schools, who may not otherwise be able to attend or continue in attendance at the school for financial reasons, and who has the ability and inclination to be part of our active College community. The Bursary is for up to 50% of the tuition fees (or 25% tuition & 25% boarding fees if the student is to be a boarder). The Bursary may be awarded to a child at any stage of his/her secondary school education. The term of the Bursary will be for two years and will be reviewed both for progress of the recipient and the financial status of the parents after this time. The Bursary may be extended following this review. The Bursary may be terminated with a minimum of one full terms notice to the parents in the event of: The method of selection shall be as follows: Completion of the Scholarship Application form.
